When we arrived we asked if there was a vacancy and were told by the clerk that yes, there were plenty of rooms available (two queen beds) as we were a family of four. We went downstairs to eat dinner and booked our room online, paid for it and it was confirmed. After dinner we tried to check in and now the same clerk told us there were no rooms available. We asked if we could get something in writing stating that he never checked us in so we could get our money back and he said his printer had no ink. We then asked him to email us instead and he said he did. We checked our email and what he sent us stated that we were confirmed and checked in. We questioned him about this after realizing he was lying and the exchange got very heated with shouting, swearing and a huge scene. In all my decades of traveling in the US and abroad, I have never experienced this! It was extremely bizarre and we literally felt like the guy ripped us off for nearly $200. It was 9:30 at night at this point and our family had to drive 30 miles outside of the national park to find lodging for the night.

The rooms need updating. Stairs, carpeting walls all worn. Very minimal to no hot water in room. Comforters worn with holes. Room was clean. Did not interact with staff except for front desk. He was cordial.

The staff wasn’t friendly and the rooms are way outdated. Shower had only cold water, never got hot. Not worth $280 I paid for that room. The taphouse had awful service you couldn’t order at the bar and was told to wait for the waitress who passed us 100 times in 40 min we were waiting. They were not busy

Cute Rustic Rooms
This is a nice place to stay in the park. There is a restaurant and tap room next door. I appreciate that it is dog friendly. The people at the front desk were very nice. The design of the room is very cool - great rustic vibes and high ceilings. The balcony faces the wilderness. The room did have an a/c unit, but it didn’t work super well. (The air blowing out was cold, but it struggled to cool down the room.) The room was very expensive. But you’re paying a wake up in the park.

It's a beautiful place, with delicious food and very friendly, helpful staff. Would have been a 5, but the bed was terrible! A cheap old mattress on a platform with a stiff, scratchy, blanket. For $250 per night, I expect better! Room was super clean, air worked well, bath towels were good quality. Location is excellent, and the view is spectacular!

When I made the reservation through Expedia, I did not know reserving a "traditional room" meant no air conditioning when it was over 90 degrees outside. Also, it was far from soundproof, so you could hear every word spoken from the room next door. I ended up paying extra fees to request an upgrade. Once upgraded, it was peaceful and cool with air conditioning. The front desk and restaurant have wonderful staff and surprisingly good-quality food.

Good bed, GREAT views.
You don’t stay at Big Meadows for the creature comforts, you stay at the lodge because it’s beautiful, you’re surrounded by nature, you want easy access to hiking, or maybe you’re through hiking and this is your one night in a bed for a long time (😂) That said, the bed was loud but comfy. TV, fridge, and coffee maker are all nice touches. Our room had an excellent view of the sunset and two comfy chairs to sit on the patio to watch.
