Scenically situated on the grounds of the Discovery Center in a stand of pines overlooking Statehouse Lake, this beautiful, lakefront home is the perfect Northwoods getaway! Come escape into lovely Manitowish Waters for a wonderful holiday. Just a short walk out the front door, you'll find a private dock that gives you access to Statehouse Lake, kayaks and canoes available for you to use, and easy walking access to Rest Lake (which connects to dozens of other bodies of water).

During the day, you can go hiking, biking, skiing, or snowshoeing on the Discovery Center's 12-mile trail system, or take out a kayak or canoe on Statehouse Lake. Spend the day fishing, visiting local shops, or just relaxing and taking in the sounds of nature on the back patio or the private dock. A nearby marina offers boat rentals for fishing, water skiing, pontoon boats, and jet skis on the Manitowish Waters legendary Chain of 10 Lakes. Access to the snowmobile trail is available via the Discovery Center driveway.

Statehouse Lake is a 21-acre lake located in Vilas County. It has a maximum depth of 18 feet. Fish include Panfish, Largemouth Bass, and Northern Pike.

Damage waiver: The total cost of your reservation for this Property includes a nightly damage waiver fee, plus tax if applicable (the “Damage Waiver”). The Damage Waiver covers you for up to $3,000 of accidental damage to the Property or its contents (such as furniture, fixtures, and appliances) as long as you report the incident to the host prior to checking out. Beautiful Place
This cabin was gorgeous! The views of the small lake were amazing, the fire pit area was great and everything worked. The cabin is beautifully decorated and had everything you would need for a great stay. The only negatives to this place were that it did not have Wi-Fi and the tv in the basement is pretty small for the space. Those did not impact us much as we enjoyed the beautiful outdoors and took in all that nature had to offer.

Weather was great! Scenery Beautiful! Property Amenities need updating/ replacing/ repairing. Need to make sure that the property is ready at checkin. We arrived at our check in time and the place was not close to being ready for us. Online pictures do not depict how property currently looks..

Gorgeous Property
This property was amazing. It is located on Statehouse Lake and the home is on a private penninsula-esque piece of land withinthe boundaries of the North Lakeland Discovery Center. There was a canoe, 2 kayaks and a private pier with clear and clean water. There is a fire circle and chairs along with an outside patio with chairs and a small table. We didn’t use the gas grill but it was available outside the front door. The property has trails surrounding it that are also part of the Discovery Center. The house was clean and well-appointed, even nicer than the online pictures imo. There is a porch with a sitting area and table and chairs, perfect for Game night. The view to the lake from the living room couch is perfect. The kitchen had everything we needed including coffee maker (there were filters to use), toaster, stove, oven, dish washer, and plenty of glassware, dishes and utensils. The washer and dryer in the basement were very nice and accessible. There are 2 bedrooms each with a double bed and in the basement, which was clean and dry and finished, there are 2 small pull out beds that worked fine for our children but not sure they’d be that comfy for adults. We did find a extra camping mattress so our teenage son doubled up. Bedding, pillows and other linens were nice. We were provided with plenty of towels (very nice) and the bathroom and shower were clean and nice as well. We‘ve rented many VRBOs and this was as nice as any we’ve stayed in. It exceeded my expectations and we would return in a heartbeat. Our kids (ages 12,15 and 18) said it was their favorite place we’ve stayed in. MW is a really nice town with lots to do, bike trails with ebike and regular rentals, chain of lakes with rental kayaks, canoes and motorized boats from Greer’s Pier. We rented a ski boat and enjoyed a day on the lakes. We played bingo on Sunday night in the Town Center and enjoyed the water ski show on Rest Lake on Saturday and Wednesday nights. We had a nice dinner at Aberdeens’s Lodge, it was a long wait fora table but a lovely outdoor area and property overlooking a lake and good bar service. We also had apps on Manny’s Parkside backyard porch which is new and fun and gorgeous overlooking the main park in town. This was a perfect vacation for our family of 5 and was a bonus that we could bring our big old yellow lab with us as he loves the Northwoods too.

3rd snowmobile trip to this place.
Generally Everything was great However the entry door has been not very functional since we stayed there 3 years now. The furniture is a bit uncomfortable. Could use a fireplace too. But again our 3rd time here and we really like it.

Almost the perfect stay.
This property is gorgeous in every way. The setting and the cabin itself is extremely beautiful and the location is perfect. The only reason I did not give this stay a perfect rating is because the internet did not work. In the grand scheme of things during a Northwoods getaway wifi is not a big deal, but when the amenities state wifi I would appreciate that it actually worked. This very minor downside would not stop me from coming back, but it is something worth noting if guests need to do some work over the weekend and need internet access.

Beatiiful location
Wonderful, quiet stay in a beatiiful setting. Loved taking the canoe for an early morning outing. Great location with only a short ride over to Winman trails, plus access to this area's whole bike trail system. We hope to return again!

Cute little house on the lake
We were pleasantly surprised that house was even nicer than the photos online. I was a little unhappy that there were obvious stains on the carpeting and disturbed that the bathroom was carpeted as well. The house had pretty much everything we needed except a picnic table to eat outside. The view of the lake was pretty. Especially at night when the moon reflected on the water. Just an FYI, there are no motor boats of any kind on the lake, but the kayaks and canoe were fun to use. A very peaceful retreat!

Family time
This is a wonderfully secluded spot that is just perfect for a getaway with the family to get in some quality time together. Lake is perfect size for kayaking and canoeing. Great fire pit and plenty of space for a family to gather and not feel too cramped. Definitely pleased with our experience at the “Director’s House.”

Beautiful setting, but a few problems
This is a lovely property, but there were two significant issues that made our stay difficult. The beds are terrible. We are small people and the mattress caved in when we laid on it. I ended up sleeping on the couch and we left a day early. I never have back pain, but this mattress caused me a lot of pain. The WiFi NEVER worked and there was a lot of miss information being given to us about if it could be repaired or when it was going to be repaired and even how long it had been down. We came to find out it had been not working for many weeks. Normally this would not be a problem, but since this is so remote, even our cell phones could not be hot spots. We have found properties only used for rentals have bigger issues (like this one) because there is no owner that actually has to contend with the issues. The water here is also super funky 🥴. The carpet is filthy too. Sadly, the problems with this property could not be overcome by the beautiful setting

Family time on a beautiful lake
Everything was great about the home. Just what we expected from the pics. The lake was quiet & isolated like described. However, not being from the area & knowing nothing about the Discovery Center next door we were surprised at how loud the groups were that were staying there. They were loud thru 10pm, as we were told quiet hrs on the lake were from 9pm - 8am. Also there was a lot of construction sounding vehicles throughout the morning & early day. Not what we were expecting.

Awesome place to get away. Staff was great in communication as I left something behind and they called right away and arranged to get it back to me! House is beautiful, location great. Only downside was a lot of dog hair. Especially downstairs furniture. Even had it on the bedsheets upstairs. We have cats at home so i understand but it was pretty excessive ( I always travel with a lint roller so I was able to clean it before we used it). Porch smells of dog covered up by air freshener. We loved our time and loved hiking the grounds.

Great experience!
Overall I could not have asked for more from a weekend getaway. It was the perfect property, very well taken care of, very clean, and I received prompt responses from the manager. The location is incredible. Since it’s on discovery center property there are trails and you basically get the whole lake to yourself. The only difficult part was finding the property since google maps has it in the middle of the road. It took us some time to find. Signage would be helpful

Beautiful, clean and lovely!
The property is so beautiful and kept very nicely. I only gave it 4/5 stars for the service...the internet did not work, apparently the line was cut by workers nearby. Understandable that these things happen, but then we were told we would have it by Saturday but then didn't at all for the trip with no additional info communicated to us. This put us in a bad place, needing to contact work and family. A bit more contact and updating on the issue would have been nice. But again, everything else was superb and we wouldn't hesitate to go back!

Beautiful surroundings!
The director’s house has a wonderful view of the lake and excellent hiking trails. The beds and shower were excellent. The kitchen was very modern had every thing you could need. This would be a perfect place for families with the screen porch and separate bunk house. So enjoyed our stay here!
