The Neighborhood
Surrounded by tall pines and beautiful, rolling countryside, the Manitowish Chain of Lakes is one of the most popular lake chains in Wisconsin's Northwoods region. The chain consists of 10 sparkling lakes known for great fishing along with breathtaking beauty and quiet seclusion for swimming, canoeing, camping, and bird watching. The cottage sits on the Manitowish River between 2 of these 10 lakes.
Directly across the Highway from Birch Hill Road about 1 mile from our cottage, is Little Star Beach. This gem of a beach is also reachable by boat.
The Manitowish Waters Airport and the local library are within 2.5 miles of this cottage, and the town of Manitowish Waters another half mile farther.
We are very close to the Little Bohemia Lodge, located just across from us on Hwy 51. It no longer offers lodging but still has a bar and restaurant. Historically known for the 1934 shootout between John Dillinger's gang and the FBI, it is now famed for its action packed scenes in the 2009 movie Public Enemies starring Johnny Depp.
20 miles north of Minocqua, this cottage is close to shopping, restaurants, theatre, golfing, skiing, horseback riding, casino, nature center, and trails for hiking, biking, and snowmobiling. Vilas County is known for its natural resources and beauty.
Getting Around
Parking is right outside the front door. Easy access by boat or car from the cottage to all 10 lakes in the beautiful Manitowish Chain as well as to the village of Manitowish Waters. Greer's Pier, a full service marina, is just a short way down Hwy 51.
Other Things to Note
This cottage stands on the peaceful Manitowish River between Rest Lake and Stone Lake which is a mandated NO-WAKE zone, assuring quality fishing off the pier and friendly waving at the slow-moving boats as they pass by quietly at the posted speed limit that protects the shorelines. Wisconsin has a building code requiring all new construction to be 75 ft. back from the water's edge. The cottage is only 25 ft. back and the forest of trees in your view are state woods so the view from this cabin is forevermore ensured.
