Cosy Room
Our room was a quaint little cottage room. Small, but did what we wanted for the 2 nights we were in Matlock

The duke of Wellington is an extremely good pub (great beer, food and atmosphere etc) but the rooms are something else! All are outside in the pub grounds, very roomy, spotlessly clean and so comfortable. Also olde-worldey atmosphere but very beautifully done with excellent modern facilities. I canā€™t praise this accommodation highly enough. Itā€™s about 1/2 mile from Matlock town but no need to go into Matlock to eat as the extensive menu is very good value and includes a range of vegetarian meals which was fab for me. Thank you to the team at the Duke of Wellington, we will be back soon!

Room was nice and clean (except for some high altitude spider webs šŸ˜). Only criticisms were the pump / boiler / macerator / mechanical device that was ā€˜kicking inā€™ each hour or so for a couple of minutes (felt like we were on top of it) and Biffa collecting the glass recycling at 05:30 on a Bank Holiday Monday morningā€¦šŸ˜£

A cacophony of clocks
Very friendly management and staff. Large choice on main menu, would have liked a bit of choice for breakfast - smoked salmon or kippers for example. Talking of breakfast, try and be down at 8 or 9 o'clock to hear the cacophony of all the non-synchronised clocks chiming.

Christmas stay
Room was reasonable but some mould in bathroom and a damp patch on floor maybe a leak from bathroom. Television didnā€™t work during the whole stay which was a little disappointing. However the breakfast was fabulous.

Not great at all
The rooms are in an out-building which is fine but our room wasn't in good condition at all. There was a lot of fresh black mold on the walls around the door (that I had to wipe down myself). There was also black mold higher up out of reach on the walls and ceiling. There was no curtain, just a blind that was missing the adjuster to close the blinds. The main room was very very basic. In the bathroom the bath was in a bad condition with it almost rotting away along the seals and the was a massive crack in the sink which actually later dropped out leaving a hole in the sink. The bed was comfy enough and actually slept well but expected much better for the money. Service on arrival was good so no complaints there but as we left early there was no one there to really express the dissatisfaction.

Property is dingy. Room was tired and smelled it. Bathroom looked unclean and smelled horribly musty/moldy. Strongly perfumed ā€œair freshenerā€ plugged in to try to mask the mustiness. Found clumps of hair on the old worn carpet. Staff who gave the key was friendly which was the only positive. Managers were not helpful saying the room was fine and recently renovated! Looked like the only ā€œrenovationā€ was maybe the bed cover? They said I could leave if I wanted! If I had transport, I would have!
