South Beach Hotel is in sore need of refurbishment, maybe even a teardown and rebuild.
The air vents had mold, the 2nd floor hallway creaks and feels unstable, like they carpeted over old wood, and several of the windows were screwed shut (fire code violation?). The carpet in the room was stained, and there was obvious water damage next to the shower door in the bathroom wainscoting and to one of the room's window frames. The paint work was pretty shoddy, too. The furniture is worn and definitely needs replacing.
The exterior has been redone since the last photos from 2020 on Google Maps and listed in Expedia. However, the new stone/tile work and artificial turf leaves something to be desired. They expanded the outdoor seating at the expense of the previously beautiful landscaping.
In addition, the sheets weren't changed while I was staying there.
On a positive note, the room has fully functional lighting, A/C (cooling only), and a working TV and mini fridge, and the nights were quiet. Check-in/check-out at the Boulan South Beach Hotel next door was quick and easy, and the rooftop pool and hot tub at the Boulan (a connected property to which South Beach Hotel has access) were sweet!
All in all, I've got mixed feelings about my stay. 3/5 stars.
