Dated and dirty.
The fridge and freezer were dirty and still had old food in it. Lots of personel items left around including an original birth certficate. The towels and bed linens were old and worn out. The ac did not work properly so we bought 4 fans to make it tolerable. There were bug or rodent droppings in some of the cabinets. One of the hand railings going up the front steps was rotten and not secure and broke off when my 80 year mother grabbed it. There was a strong stench of raw sewer outside the home. The lower level toilet didn't flush and the shower drain gurgled when ran. The steps and walkway down to the lake are dangerous due to rotted wood and loose and lack of handrails. Termites in master bath ceiling. No wifi, no iron, 1 tv with 3 channels, 1 small frying pan......... extremely. disappointed

Honest review is mixed
The owner seems nice and is communicative. The property is in a good location and really does have a lot of potential to be a great VRBO spot. However, there was some significant concerns. One being cleanliness. Which is a very big deal all the time, but especially right now given COVID. The towels were not clean, the basement shower had a used razor and hair in it, sink smelled, fridge and oven were not clean either. Along with cleanliness is a gross misrepresentation of the property. The pictures you see are are staged from a real estate listing. the furniture and decorations are different. The linens on the beds are not of the same quality at all they are thin and extremely uncomfortable and low quality, the showers don't have curtains, only a plastic sheet, or in the master's case blinds.... the hot tub is not accessible and the laundry was not accessible. The garage opener was there but the garage is filled with junk, and parking if you have 10 people is almost impossible. We tried to make pizzas in the oven and the oven would only get warm, not hot. For example, a frozen pizza on 500 after over 40 minutes was still dough. I reported this to the owner and he seemed very surprised that it didn't work. However there is another review on this page from a few weeks ago that says the same thing and he commented on it, so I feel like the surprise reaction is a little fabricated. He offered at 7:30 on Saturday night to come fix the oven, which wouldn't be possible, but honestly I don't want to deal with it and we didn't need the oven anymore a that point. He also suggested to cook on self clean which is never a good idea. The oven is old and has done it's time and needs to be replaced, that is obvious. But the offer was appreciated. Overall, if the property was $1,000 less for the weekend I would have maybe been ok with it. That would have been what it was worth for the quality of the beds, linens, some lights not working, cleanliness, and quality of the appliances. But the oven not working, and knowing about it, is unacceptable to me. Some things also to notice that are difficult with the winter pictures - the trek to get to the lake is wooded and a rough walk, would be difficult with children or elderly. The neighbors on the shoreline are extremely close but seemed very nice. However if you are having a large group and want privacy on the water, this is not where you will find it. The house itself with the decks does offer a lot of privacy.

Misrepresentation of this house & amenities.
Wow - DISAPPOINTMENT from the moment we pulled up. The house exterior was in poor condition & the yard was overgrown. The A/C wasn't on when we arrived on a 95 degree day; the inside of house had very odd & unpleasant odor. The toilet in the lower level didn't work correctly, needing to be plunged regularly; the kitchen floor was dirty, counters were sticky in places. The kitchen wasn't stocked well enough to prepare simple meals, let alone food for 8 adults. The bottom element of electric oven didn't work so we couldn't use to prepare meals. There were limited cooking utensils, etc. There was limited seating in living room so we pulled in patio & dining chairs. The bed linens were low quality (worse than economy hotels); bathroom towels were stained & minimal; we found only 1-2 wash clothes in entire house; there was 1 dish towel in kitchen & 2 smelly sponges/scratch pads. The outside was an overgrown jungle. The stairs leading to the lake were in total disrepair & dangerous. The railing around all decks were dangerous because wide spaces between spindles - kids could fall through - we had to be very careful w/small kids who visited. Path to lake was strewn with fallen tree branches & overgrown with weeds. The lake shore / dock were nothing as described. The plywood sheeting on dock was warped & weak - we didn't feel comfortable being on it. The lakeshore was covered with decaying leaves, lake weeds, nettles/itch weed, low hanging tree branches - alive & dead ones. So we tried to make the best of our stay by doing the following: 1. swept all hard floors - used disinfectant wipes that we brought to wipe down all kitchen surfaces/dining & kitchen tables; door handles; and bathrooms; 2, dusted ledges in lower level bedrooms to remove visible dead bugs & cobwebs . 3. Located, opened & CLEANED all air ducts to get as much a/c coming through as possible. 4. Repaired a toilet so we could use it. 5. Cleared path to lake of all branches/logs, nettles/itch weed. Good thing-lake water was clean! 6. Raked & cleared part of lakeshore so we could use it. Tried to clear both sides of beach but one side had too much decaying vegetation & was really soupy. In frank summary .... yes, there's a lot of floor space, but that's about it. Most of what was represented in the listing is NOT accurate. I wouldn't stay here again & won't recommend to others. This review is not made by a relative and/or friend of the owner.

Ideal location. Short 2 minute walk through a trail to the lake. House was pretty clean.
Hesitant due to the reviews, but honestly all the negative reviews were pretty inaccurate. This house was pretty clean when we arrived and on a really good spot of the lake. Oven didn’t work super well but all other utilities worked perfectly. Hot tub was nice touch. Only two couches so seating limited but we had a blast and really enjoyed our stay.

Dissapointed
Size of this property certainly adequate for the five of us but furnishings were sparse and misrepresented by the description. The on-line pictures provided were obviously staged for a real estate offering. In fact they were the pictures I found on Zillo for the property sale. Many of the furnishings were swapped out for lesser quality and volume. (false advertising??) Overall cleanliness was lacking with dirty scatter rugs and kitchen appliances. New refrigerator but other appliances old, unclean and difficult to operate. Towels were very worn and and we only had five wash clothes provided for 5 people. No kitchen towels provided. No toaster. No drinking glasses. No cable TV or internet. Lower level was musty smelling. Exterior of the building was poorly maintained. Parking was limited for size of occupancy. Lake access was remote and difficult to get to through the woods. There were no entry or exit instructions. Did call the property manager with requests and did reach him quickly but never received our requested items. Overall a disapointment, unlike our previous experiences with VRBO. Beware!!

Almost There
This property is not delivering what it promises although it has lots of potential. It advertises itself as upscale with its promotion and price, but it doesn't deliver upscale. Furniture is sparse and in the case of the few occasional chairs, dirty and dingy. Though the main rooms are large, they do not have enough seating for people (7 in our case with an occasional guest) and our group always had someone on the floor even though we dragged a chair from another room. The downstairs bedrooms do not have lamps and lamp tables and the beds are inferior. Not all bedrooms have window coverings. Towels are cheap, threadbare, and uninviting, more in line with Motel 6, and extras are thrown into very messy closets. Inexpensive bedding is also more in line with summer camp. In the kitchen the oven is not heating correctly and the broiler does not work at all ( we found this out because the kitchen has no toaster and we were trying to make toast). Utensils are random. There are many plates and mugs but no glasses of any kind. The owner also needs to hire a professional cleaner. When we arrived, we found rather disgusting cloths/pads in sinks and elsewhere, the smelly disposal had not been run, and the refrigerator hadn't been wiped out. A sodden beach towel was left outside the front door. For those of you who need internet, be forewarned: no internet. On the positive side, the place is in a beautiful, secluded, wooded neighborhood and on a lake (we rescued and used an overturned paddle boat), very near to a wonderful neighborhood children's park with a zip line and little free library, and includes a hot tub. The location is convenient and the house large and custom-built. It has wonderful decks and screened porch. * A grill would be a nice addition. If the owner wants to charge these prices, the owner needs to spend some money to make the house appealing and more functional for guests as it has lots of potential. Although he seems very nice on the phone, the owner needs to be responsive to messages prior to rental. *Also, move the boat and give guests more room to park.

The house had a lot of room for everyone to have their own area. The location was beautiful and we say a lot to wildlife. There were a few small items in the kitchen that could improve the rental. But overall was good. There parking could be a little tricky if you have more then three cars to park.

The place has potential, but HORRIBLE communication
This Vrbo has great potential; spacious home, a beautiful wooded lot, and prime location. However, this Vrbo requires updates to the home and improvements with communication and hospitality from the owner to equate to a five star experience. -We called and left voicemails with the owner multiple times throughout the day of check in to receive instructions on how to get into the house. We arrived at check in time with ZERO instructions on how to get into the house, thankfully we figured out how to check in on our own. We finally heard from the owner 2 1/2 hours after check in... there is no excuse for this lack of communication. -Once in the house we realized it was extremely hot and humid, above 80 degrees throughout the house. The owner stated there was central air, however, it should have been turned on PRIOR to our arrival considering it was 85 degrees outside. The house is massive and the AC needed to be on several hours before becoming effective. -Appliances in the kitchen (microwave and convection oven) are extremely outdated, nearly impossible to cook a meal. We attempted to cook pizzas in the oven. We tried to "pre-heat" the oven for 30 minutes and the oven was warm at most. -Dishes and utensils in the kitchen are sparse, so plan on bringing a lot of your own kitchen things. -There is no extra toilet paper, paper towels, or facial tissues so expect to bring your own. Overall, the group had a good time at this home considering the large size and location. If you’re considering booking, plan to pack more than you think you’ll need, consider meals that don’t need to be cooked, and be persistent in making sure your basic needs are being met.

Spacious but sparse, beautiful wooded area - limited lake access
This property was booked for one night for a girls getaway of 10 people. The property is very spacious, with plenty of rooms/beds to accommodate us all. It was a little under-furnished, but for our purposes it was fine. We booked it thinking it had easy lake access, but it turned out it was a walk through woods down to an old dock that didn't actually get pushed out to go over the water. The water around the property area was muddy and full of seaweed. Since we had planned to chill in the lake, it was a little inconvenient, but we managed to walk into the water on the beach nearby and avoided our shoreline coming in. We put down towels and sat on the narrow dock over the mud and made the best of it. So if you're looking for a fun chill "lakeside" experience, this may not be the best for you, but we made it work. Other cons was the owner was VERY limited on communication. I tried multiple times to ask about lake access before we arrived and was only told "yes". He also did not provide check in details until the morning of, and avoided communication, which turned out ok but added a lot of undue stress to my planning, thinking maybe it had fallen through. In the end, we had a great time, the house is lovely and spacious with great wooded views. If the owner could clean up the lake access a bit and improve communication, it could be a stellar VRBO.

Inimpressed
I agree with the first reviewers sentiments. This house is great and the property is great and it could be a fantastic VRBO or AirBnB house but the owner needs to give it a lot more attention. It was almost offensive that the house wasn’t furnished anything close to what the pictures detail. It seems like the pictures posted actually were the realtors staging photos and then the now owner just stole those to use on the VRBO posting. The only decoration we saw in the house was a sort of candy dish on the dining room table and a Ten Commandments thing on the kitchen wall. All the pictures and end tables you see in the posting are not in the house now. When you offer your place up for rental like this it’s just a simple courtesy to make it as comfortable and nice as possible. This place was clean and a cool house but outdated everything basically. Needs shower heads replaced and not sure what sort of humidity problem was happening down in the basement where two of the bedrooms are. We were pleasantly surprised I hope since this house is new to VRBO that it gets better and becomes a great place to stay. But for now it’s not on par with what you expect from a VRBO house.

The pictures misrespresent the property. The house was dirty and was mostly empty. Not worth the $!!
The pictures on Home Away looked far different than what we saw when we got there. The house was empty except for beds and a couple couches. No drapes, furnishings or basic kitchen necessities. No coffee maker or can opener. The house was dirty. Mouse poop in the cupboards, bugs and dirty bath mats. The house description included a hot tub which was dirty and cold when we arrived. We could have saved money and had a much better experience at a hotel. We were very disappointed!
