Underwhelming overall and hard to understand the high rating Excellence Oyster Bay seems to maintain. For a resort that is fairly new, the premises show a state of disrepair and lack of upkeep indicative of a much older property— faded, stained and damaged furniture, sloppy repairs, etc.
Although we met a small number of employees who genuinely seemed keen on providing good service, on the whole there is a general sense of non-care that pervades the place. It takes ages to be served almost everywhere— bars and restaurants— and we had many experiences of places being unmanned or not being acknowledged even if they were. We literally walked out of dinner our last night after sitting for nearly two hours and still not having received our entrees. Towels poolside were seemingly never replenished once gone. We waited in line for lunch at the poolside Jerk Hut, only to have to wait another 30 minutes once we got to the front when they ran out of plates and had to suspend service until more arrived. Perhaps the most aggravating part of all of this is the uncaring attitude of most of the staff.
In terms of overall food quality and choice, I’d say it was fair, but with more fails than passes. Desserts were almost uniformly bad. Drinks were okay, but any decent bar should have fresh lemons and limes for drink-making (these bars had none). Many of the bars had cocktail menus, but lacked other ingredients to make the drinks that were described.
