Johnshaven is a wonderful fishing village on the east coast, with quirky little shops, winding lanes and excellent seafood – the Anchor Hotel round the corner serves a wide selection of good food while the Lobster Shop along at the harbour offers locally caught dressed crabs and lobsters to take away and enjoy. The yearly Johnshaven Fish Festival takes place in August along the harbour and is a popular event celebrating the village’s place in the local maritime history.
The Johnshaven Heritage Museum is certainly also worth a visit. Further up the coast is the popular seaside town of Stonehaven, with its seasonal open air heated pool – a great attraction – and Dunnottar Castle, a beautiful and mysterious ruin, strategically placed on a rocky outcrop on the outskirts of the town. Its turbulent history and breath-taking views make it a must-see destination. For more culture and retail, both Aberdeen and Dundee are within an hours drive, while to the west, the Angus Glens have a variety of walks in stunning scenery. Beach 300 yards. Pub 200 yards.
