Nelson's Crash Pad, Great Sand Dunes, Camper/RV

*The hot and cold water are shut down for the season*. Water is provided. (all other amenities remain including central heat and a 32 inch HD TV with Netflix and Amazon Prime- the TV sits across from the sofa so it is wonderfully positioned if you want to watch something). Award Classic 27 Camper. Located in a private sparsely populated mountain community that is about 4 miles by car from The Great Sand Dunes National Park and about 2 miles from the Zapata Falls entrance. Beautiful views with amazing sunsets. Fire pit/grill/indoor dining/outdoor dining. Cold AC, heat, kitchen with oven/4 burner stove, microwave, dual sinks. Refrigerator/freezer, hot shower. AC and USB outlets. So much natural light.Clean, comfortable, functional. Peaceful and beautiful setting.
The space
27 foot camper with one bedroom (full size) and one sofa bed (twin) in a certified dark sky area. The sky can be mesmerizing. The camper is surrounded by mountains and the valley sits below. There are 2 zero gravity chairs which recline 170 degrees so that you can comfortably face the sky for amazing star gazing and relaxation (they include drink holders and adjustable head rests). The camper has a very functional kitchen and a booth style dining area. Well stocked kitchen with a variety of pots and pans, cooking utensils, and much more. Great for preparing meals. Organic freshly ground coffee provided as well as sugar and organic whole milk for a nice cup of coffee in the morning (hot chocolate, mocha, and tea provided as well). Tea kettle and Malita (French press as well). Also, there is pancake mix/syrup/butter and organic oatmeal. Some condiments provided (ketchup, mustard, mayonnaise, dill relish, hot sauce). Several spices provided. The bathroom utilizes a flushable portable toilet. Dimmable overhead lighting. Wi-Fi with the ability to stream video. The outdoor space has a table with chairs and a shade tent (currently the camper has no awning). There is a grill with an adjacent prep/serving table. A propane fire pit livens up the outdoor area. Many windows and 3 skylights provide abundant natural light. Powerful 13,500 BTU air conditioner. Drinking water is provided from a pristine mountain aquifer from our well which it put through reverse osmosis. Enjoy The Great Sand Dunes, Zapata Falls, hiking trails, mountains and wide open spaces.
Other things to note
Dogs are welcome at Nelson's Crash Pad. Our house is on the property and part of it is visible from the camper. The side of the house that is closest to the camper is unoccupied as it is only used for storage. There is a yurt on the property that may be occupied during your stay. The yurt is about 150 feet from the camper and there are trees and other vegetation separating the yurt from the camper. The large parking area is used by occupants of the yurt and by occupants of the camper. Smoking is only allowed outdoors (by the fire pit ect.). Please let me know if you plan on smoking so I can leave a professional grade cigarette disposal unit at the site.

Fun place to stay
We enjoyed our stay in the RV, the host was attentive and it came equipped with everything we needed. My only complaint would be the location of the bed in the bedroom, it’s a full and up against the wall, I get claustrophobic so sleeping on that side of the bed was difficult for me since my partner gets up at night. Other than that we had a good time!

We definitely enjoyed the convenience to Great Sand Dunes from this location. The exterior layout was nicely done with plenty of room, a nice tarp ground cover at the entrance, a fire pit, and a gas barbecue that worked very well. The weather was a bit chilly so we were not able to enjoy those as much as we would have preferred. The inside was tight and small, which we halfway expected and the bed VERY comfortable. The internet did work. Now the downside... We were fine with how tiny the quarters were and could have been just fine about that part. But the cleanliness was a very big deterrent and we actually left early because we didn't want to shower in the unkept tiny tub. The tiny part of the shower was doable but the shower was unkept, as was the entire bathroom. The toilet worked but took us a while to figure out how to flush (YouTube came to the rescue). It was a portable toilet that was installed into the bathroom of this unit. Functional when needed but definitely not preferred. The information booklet left for the renters did provide the internet codes but not much else in terms of helping one get familiar with the unit or the surrounding area. That RV definitely needs some care and upgrade for the price being charged to stay there. I would not stay there again.
