Accommodation In Nikko

A famous Japanese saying goes, Nikkō wo Minakereba ‘kekkō’ to iu na; “Don’t say ‘magnificent’ until you’ve seen Nikkō”. This fascinating town north of Tokyo lives up that saying. One of the most famous shoguns of all time, the brilliant and wily Tokugawa leyasu, asked to be buried here—and as a result, Nikkō is home to several gorgeous and famous shrines and always seems to have one foot caught in the glorious imperial age.

Thing to Do in Nikkō

You won’t even have time to hear, see or speak any evil during your trip to Nikkō. There’s just too much to do! Start with the city’s three famous shrines: Tōshōgū, Rinnoji and Futarasan. Tōshōgū is Tokugawa leyasu’s shrine. This is also the site of the famous Sacred Stables, which features the original carving of the three wise monkeys shielding eyes, ears and mouth.

Lest you think Nikko holidays are only about snapping pics of famous shrines, take a step back and look around. The city is also surrounded by gorgeous nature. Get away from the crowds (and your Nikkō hotel) with a trip to the Nikkō Botanical Garden or during a long hike through Nikkō National Park. If you really want to challenge yourself, hike to the summit of Mt. Nakimushi.

Getting to and Around Nikkō

If your holiday brings you to Tokyo, you should dedicate at least a day to Nikkō. From your Tokyo accommodation, you have three transportation options. The fastest way to town is the private Tōbu Nikkō Line. If you already have a Japanese Railway Pass, take the JR train. Finally, a car hire deal from Wotif also works. When you get to town, you can find plenty of tour buses that will zip you right to the city’s most famous shrines.

You might be tempted to speak some evil if you have to spend hours comparing Nikkō accommodation and travel prices. Instead, slash through high prices like a cost-saving samurai by using Wotif to find great deals on Nikkō hotels and flights, and kick off your adventure today!
