Ouachita Mountains Luxury Retreat on 40+ acres with Pool, Hot Tub, WiFi

Hello, we would like to introduce ourselves. We are Doug and Jacki Alexander, the proud owners of this beautiful home. We purchased this home a little over three years ago from R.C. Smith, who had rented it out on the VRBO site for over 5 years (VRBO #754008). This land has been in his family for over 100 years, and he built this home several years ago in the middle of what is still a working cattle ranch. Although our family was not raised here, we feel a strong family connection to the property through stories that R.C. has shared with us. Our family also comes from a long line of cattle ranchers in the panhandle of Texas. We hope that you and your family enjoy your stay in our home and that you will also feel this sense of family connection to the property. For those faithful return guest from R.C.'s site we would like to say THANK YOU and WELCOME BACK. For those of you who will be staying here for the first time we would like to say WELCOME, come enjoy the peaceful surroundings and making memories together with your family.
*NOTE*: While this property shows a five night minimum during the summer, we often have intervals between reservations which are less than five nights. The site will not allow you to choose these intervals because of the five night minimum. If interested in one of these shorter intervals we would love to try and accommodate , just send an inquiry utilizing dates which are available and we can adjust the dates on the site and will send you a special quote for the shorter stay. Thanks!

The property is an outdoors person's dream. The home is in a working cattle farm which lies in a valley surrounded by the Ouachita National Forest and Muddy Creek Wildlife Management Area. Deer and small game are prevalent on the farm, with the occasional black bear on the property. Hunting, fishing, hiking, biking and boating are all within five minutes, and Lake Ouachita is only twenty minutes away. Fishing is only seconds away, as the 8 acre pond in the backyard is stocked with bass, crappie, bluegills and catfish. Guests have the run of the entire home, pool and spa, as well as the opportunity to fish in the large pond, so don't forget your fishing poles.

Kitchen is fully stocked with pots and pans, bakeware and utensils, as well as sporting a 48" Viking Range with grill. This up-to-date kitchen lets you prepare meals as if you were in your own home. All bathrooms are stocked with towels and linens provided. We also have some beach towels available for your time by the seasonal pool or year round hot tub. Two bedrooms have king beds each with private baths and two bedrooms have queen beds each with private baths. Separate lounging and entertainment area upstairs is great for kids with TV and games, with bedrooms located on either side. East bedroom has a queen bed while west bunk room has a full and twin bed available.

The heart pine flooring throughout the home was salvaged from two local 1800's barns. All lumber in the home (except for trusses) was milled from pine timber on the farm. All stone for the foundation and the chimney as well as pool area are from the farm.

The living area offers a recliner and sectional leather sofa, a flat screen 50" TV with DirecTV, and a fireplace with plenty of room for relaxing or entertaining.

This property is located in Montgomery County, Arkansas, which is one of the least populated counties in the state and is 82% National Forest. The scenic Ouachita River is less than five minutes away, offering fishing, swimming, canoeing and kayaking; call Ric Sharp at M&M Canoe and Kayaks for rental and shuttle service. Approximately 20 minutes away is Lake Ouachita, which is virtually surrounded by the Ouachita National Forest and has some 970 miles of Arkansas's most pristine shorelines. Boats, party barges and houseboats may be rented at a number of Marinas around the lake.

For hikers and bikers the Ouachita Trail and Womble Trail (both of which are designated as International Mountain Biking Association Epic Trails) are within five minutes of the property and Lake Ouachita Vista Trail is approximately twenty minutes away. For those of you who own a telescope, you may want to bring it. On a clear night star gazing is an astronomers dream.

Montgomery County is also a hunter's paradise, with 82% of the county's 800 square miles comprised of the Ouachita National Forest and Muddy Creek Wildlife Management Area. Hunting opportunities include small game, deer, turkey and black bear. Check your local hunting regulations @ www.agfc.com.

As the new owners we have recently made many renovations and upgrades including New mattresses and bedding, New Paint, Lighting, many new furnishings, plus landscaping and hardscape around house and pool. Their are two (2) cameras located on the back of pool deck area 1. facing pool, hot tub, and pool equipment house. 2. Facing the pond. 3.There is one camera on the West end of front porch facing the garage and parking area 4. There is a Blink doorbell camera.

Perfect getaway
Our family enjoys getting together in the foothills of Ouachita Mountains at this wonderful property. The house can easily accomodate a large group in comfort. The pond in back of the house is full of fish for the kids and adults alike. There is plenty of room to go exploring or just sit outside around the fire pit and swap tales with family and friends. Coming here has become a family tradition as we celebrated our 7th year this year. We plan to keep coming back.

The Best VRBO ever!
We had the best time at here. The house was incredible! Everything was immaculate and you could really see the pride of ownership. The chef's kitchen was amazing. It had everything could need for large family meals. There was plenty of beds for 4 couples and a couple of singles. We had so much fun in the pool and hot tub every evening and even spent some time fishing in the pond. We can't wait to go back. This was definitely the best VRBO we've ever stayed in.

Best Vacation
Oh my gosh!! We had the best time! This was the best VRBO my family and I have ever stayed at. We enjoyed fishing and riding in the paddle boat on the lake. The pool and hot tub were definitely a big hit as well. The owners go above and beyond for their renters. We are already planning on coming back again next year!

BEST VACATION SPOT FOR FAMILY
The host have thought of everything! Beautiful home with a pool & pond right out the back door! Sit on the screened in back porch with a view of the pond & watch the sunset or sit on the front porch in the morning relaxing & drinking coffee as the cows graze across the front pasture! When they say the kitchen is fully stocked they mean it! Spices, every small appliance you would have at home, dishes for toddlers, even tupperware for your leftovers! They have supplied games, pool toys, even some extra pool towels, & aloe vera gell because there is always someone who gets a sunburn. Kayak rentals & horse back riding are less than a 10 minute drive away or visit Hot Springs for the famous bath houses or just some shopping & exploring. Visit Queen Wilhelmina for the spectular overlook. And don't forget to vistit the ice cream parlor while there & take the litle ones on a train ride. You will not be disappointed in booking!

Wonderful place for large group
Our group of 6 adults and 2 kids had plenty of room to stretch out and give everyone space to do their own thing. Hot Springs was not too far for a nice day trip, but not much else close by. Glad we preplanned all our meals so did not have to spend so much time cooking there. Pool was nice but the fumes from the mothballs placed in the broken waterfall rocks was very offputting and the wasps were a nuisance that made their nests inside the rocks. I think the waterfall should be dismantled to solve those problems and would also allow access around that side of the pool. The paddleboat was a hit and the kids enjoyed fishing off the bank. Except for mother nature sending us a severe wind storm and making us do a lot of unplanned yardwork and pool cleanup, we enjoyed our stay immensely. Would highly recommend for large groups who want a quiet get away.

Lovely place to get away and relax!! Quiet area with a pool that we so enjoyed!! Nice lake to fish and/or use the paddle boat. One evening the perch were really biting and the kiddos had a great time catching them and tossing them back in the lake. Lots of room outside to play a game of kick ball. A long paved driveway for the kids to ride their bikes. The house was great for all of our cooking and family meals and we enjoyed dominos on the large table after the kids went to bed. The layout of the house is fantastic giving you the opportunity to be together but have your own personal space. Would definitely recommend to anyone wanting a place to relax and enjoy time with family!!!

The MOST well appointed vacation home youā€™ll ever stay in!
This home is even better than pictured! We had a large group with plenty of room with room to spare. This home had everything we could need & more; FULLY stocked kitchen, BOOKS!, games, pool toys/life jackets, & more! Our group had a blast fishing & using the paddle boat, swimming in the awesome pool, relaxing on the porches, walking around the beautiful property & enjoying the peace and quiet. Sound machines in every room & the room with a crib even has a changing table-how thoughtful is that! We also loved the coloring books and word searches! Also, something worth mentioning is that although this home is smoke free, there were pots outside for butts which was very considerate! We brought scooters for the kiddos & enjoyed taking them up & down the paved driveway. We also brought chalk since there was plenty of pavement around for artwork :) We appreciated how wonderfully attentive Doug & Jacki were & how they made sure it truly felt like a home away from home. If we needed anything, they were a text or phone call away! I just canā€™t say enough good things about this home! It completely exceeded our expectations. (As for location, itā€™s away from hustle & bustle but there is a dollar general less than five minutes away or about 15 minutes away thereā€™s a little town of Mt Ida with a full grocery store, a few other shops & a wonderful museum! Or if you need WalMart, Mena is about a 35 minute drive from the house & itā€™s a much bigger town.) Wonderful experience all together!

Yearly family vacation was spent here. Can we say incredible!! Everything was just perfect, plenty of room for everyone. We fished, swam, played cards, and generally just hung out. Cancelled the plans for mining cause no one wanted to leave for the day. The amenities were over the top. The kitchen is a dream kitchen for sure! Mrs Bethany was most helpful for any questions we had. Hands down best family vacation ever. Thank you Douglas and Jacki! Already making plans for next year!!!

Spring break getaway
We had an amazing time over spring break in Arkansas especially because the house had so much to offer. The pond was great to fish, paddle and explore. The rocks were cool to investigate and cows up front were always very entertaining especially during the thunderstorm! The hot tub was great for stargaze & long driveway was perfect for a workout and run. Beds were super comfy and the kitchen was fully stocked with whatever you fancied to cook up! This was a great home to share with family and friends.

This house was the perfect place for a family vacation. All the rooms are spacious and spaced throughout the house to give more "privacy". My kids all took over one area in the house and called it the "kids wing". Communication was excellent before and during the stay. Birthday Celebration
The house was big and spacious! Enough room for all. Kitchen was stocked with all the appliances you would need and then some. 2 refrigerators which came in handy plus the 2 dishwashers. Beautiful sunsets over the pond. All of the grandkids caught their first fish! Pool and hot tub were a huge hit! Grandson loved watching the cows cross the driveway. WiFi was spotty on days. Bobā€™s grocery store and Dollar General are close for your grocery needs. Drove to Hot Springs one day. Ate lunch, miniature golf, ice cream, walked around bath houses. Did some hiking. Mrs. Bethany was very helpful & so friendly! Answered any questions we had. Gave ideas on what to see. She even sent text after we left to follow up. Sheā€™s a Gem!! Owners always corresponded if I had questions as well. Great family or friends get away. Highly recommend this VRBO

Relaxing Family Vacay
My family and I had a great time here. We had a kiddo as young as 4 and adults up to 55. The house was just as described. Although the house is back behind a busy road you really have no idea. The house is as described just as the pictures show and the kitchen is fully stocked with everything you could need. The pool was wonderful and the tank for fishing left fun to be had by all. It rained some on our stay and we enjoyed it from the screened in porch. The house is dated (all part of the farmhouse charm) but the owners are trying to update as they can and they are doing a great job. Any issue we had they communicated with us almost instantly. We visited Lake Ouchita and itā€™s beautiful and a must see just down the road. We did most of our grocery shopping at Bobs and the prices compared pretty much to Walmart in Mena. We will be back. Thanks for a great relaxing week!

Place was very comfortable!! There were 13 of us aged 16 to 69 and we were all very happy with this rental! The pool was our absolute favorite place. We have never stayed anywhere with a nicer kitchen layout and my goodness was it stocked with ALL the appliances and cookware you could want! It is pretty countryside and the cows were entertaining. Pond was lovely. I never saw any kayaks but there was a row boat we used to fish from. Bunkhouse was great for extra space. Wifi didnt always work but we had plenty to occupy our time we loved our stay here. Very clean and well kept. Home owners were awesome.

We had a great time staying at this house with our children and grandkids. There is so much room to spread out and everything was very clean. We were so impressed by how well stocked it was. We have stayed in a lot of VRBOs but never one that had so many extras. The owners thought of everything that you could possibly need. Everyone loved the pool, fishing, playing basketball, sitting on the front porch, watching the cows and taking walks down the road. There is a large grassy area that was perfect for frisbee and yard golf and the kids loved riding their bikes on the large paved areas. The pictures donā€™t do it justice. It is a beautiful property with great views and the new landscaping and outdoor lights are so pretty. There was nothing about it that we didnā€™t like. Wish we could have stayed longer!

Hot Springs was not too far to drive to & enjoy shopping & exploring the town. Quachita National Forest is all around you to enjoy hiking, kayaking & horsebacking riding. If the weather does not allow outdoor activities, stay home & enjoy any of the board games the host has to offer or sit outside on the enclosed porch & enjoy the rain. Wonderful place for families and adventure
Spacious, clean, and very well put together. Comfortable beds and lovely linens. Fully outfitted kitchen with everything you would need to cook for a crowd (pancake griddle and hot dog steamer were hits!). Great hot tub and pool (unheated pool however that didnt stop kids from being in it everyday). Great location for the tourist mines and close enought to Hot Springs for activities there - horse races, baths, hikes, etc. Kids loved being able to walk the property, see the cows and wildlife, explore the creek, do smores around the fire. Both families loved our time here!

Amazing Stay for Families
This home had everything we could've wanted and more. Our boys spent more time outside fishing, playing in the creek, exploring, on the paddleboat, then they have in a long time. They spent time playing with each other and not asking when they could get back on their electronics. We had family dinners, watched a storm from the front porch, had awesome campfires, and got to spend a ton of time together as a family. This was all made possible because of this home. If you are looking for a quiet getaway that can keep your family entertained, this is the perfect place for you. If you are able to make this work for your budget, I would highly recommend that you stay at this home. The beds were nice and had plenty of pillows, the hot tub was wonderful, even with it being March and the highs in the 50s, my boys enjoyed the pool. We hope to stay here again! I would highly recommend it. The pictures don't do this place the justice that it deserves. We would give it 10 stars if we could!
