Accommodation In Otorohanga

Otorohanga is better known as "Kiwiana Town". From our Otorohanga hotels, you'll become immersed in what it means to be "Kiwi".

This town exudes all things "Kiwi". New Zealand icons - such as kiwi birds, hokey pokey ice-cream, the buzzy bee, the haka and pavlova - abound here. And one thing's for sure, when you visit Otorohanga, you'll go home with some great iconic souvenirs. All around town, there are murals and sculptures devoted to the "Kiwiana" spirit, explaining the meaning behind some of New Zealand's icons. The Sir Edmund Hillary Walkway is one of the most popular Kiwiana displays in the town, as it pays tribute to the famous New Zealand explorer. If you've already learnt all there is to know about "Kiwiana" but you'd like to know more about the town's heritage, you can visit the Otorohanga Court House, Museum and Waka House.

While you're in town, make sure that you visit Otorohanga Kiwi House and Native Bird Park, which has the largest public collection of kiwi birds in the world. This conservation project replicates the kiwi's natural environment and, when you visit, you're guaranteed a glimpse of a kiwi, or your money back.

Getting there

Otorohanga is in a great location because Rotorua is only 145km away and Auckland is 165km away. But the best way to get to Otorohanga is to book one of these cheap flights to Hamilton because the Hamilton Airport is only 50 km from town. There are buses and trains that go between Otorohanga and the airport, as well as some of the major cities. However, public transport within the town isn't comprehensive, so you may want to hire a car to get around. Once you've got a car, if you want to do some exploring, it's only a 15 minute drive to the Waitomo Region, famous for the Waitomo Caves Village.

So, for a classic "Kiwiana" experience, book your flights and Otorohanga accommodation today.
