This hotel is a 1950s building and it looks like one! There are prettier hotels in Cornwall but once you get over the ugliness the benefits to a stay here far outweigh that initial feeling that you’ve booked into a holiday park. I would avoid the standard rooms over the car park. They are a bit noisy but the actual room was great, with good bathroom facilities and really comfy beds. My tricky teen was very happy and enjoyed casting Netflix to the TV. The outdoor pool was also very teen friendly and the indoor pool was a big hit too. Easy to collect towels from the pool reception area and good changing facilities. The bar area was always quite quiet and we could find places to sit, mocktails were teen friendly and the cocktail choice was also good. Teen enjoyed the pool table and the younger children seemed to be making good use of the games room. We particularly enjoyed listening to the Cornish storytelling (from a safe teen distance of course…) We did eat at the hotel. Breakfast was busy and the service seemed a little stretched. Food was fantastic. Great selection of fruit, cereal and bakery produce. We also enjoyed the additional options which were £6 each. There were plenty of options at the beach and we strolled down every day to sample something different. The walk to the beach is steep and across sand, although there is an alternative path over the main rd and down the hill. The hotel is on the costal path and we enjoyed walks from the hotel each day.

Deeply average
Disappointed as this was so average. The cost was far higher than the experience delivered. The website is misleading about the rooms. If you don’t select a room with a sea view you get a room overlooking the very busy car park. The website describes it as “land facing towards the fields” which is very misleading. The room was noisy with people in the car park at the front of the hotel late at night and deliveries early morning. The bedrooms have an internal window into the en-suite, so depends on how much you value privacy in the bathroom and on the loo. Breakfast included is misleading as it is only a cold continental buffet and there is an additional charge for hot breakfast. Breakfast was chaos with queues for coffee machine and food. Overall not what we expected for the price. I would not recommend and we won’t be returning.

Breakfast was not good. Hadn't been aware that it was a Continental breakfast, unless you wanted to pay an extra £6 a day for a cooked option. No wholemeal cereal or bread - only bread was Sourdough which was dry and chewy and did not toast well. Only Apple juice offered as standard - although when requested, we were able to get a glass of orange juice each day. Don't expect a standard selection in the Bar - limited selection of spirits and beers, and soft options. Best thing about the stay was the amazing views of the Bay each day, even from the room. On the whole, felt they were trying a bit too hard to be something different, which wasn't justified in the price.

Reception staff need to be more helpful, we understand Emma -Customer Experience Manager was very helpful when we explained our difficulties on arrival at the Hotel Spa. The O GO restaurant is excellent, both food and staff are exceptional, we would recommend highly. Spa is a little tired and needs some attention. Our room was absolutely amazing, with such a beautiful view. Overall despite the minor issues, our stay was so enjoyable. Thank you Emma and Team

Treat night away before my son starts college
The food and the people where lovely, our bedroom was so hot, the windows were open wide and we had to put the Fan on from 11pm right through the night which was extremely noisy, so didn't get much sleep.

Fabulous hotel, great staff, good location
Staff were great, professional but really friendly. We had a sea view room which was worth the extra. It was very comfortable, a good size , very well equipped but no balcony. Openable windows though. The hotel is located on a cliff above the beach with a short but steep walk down. The beach is sandy but is a surfing beach so can get quite rough and does have dangerous currents. The hotel is directly on the South West Coastal Path so good access for walkers. There is a regular local bus (no.56, bus stop opposite Bettys Shop in Mawgan Porth, 10 minute walk from hotel) between Newquay and Padstow. The spa facilities were good, steam room, sauna, jacuzzi, sundeck overlooking beach, small indoor pool and kids pool. Great sheltered outside pool with attached hot tub and sensory garden. We had half board, dining was good, lots of small dishes and very knowledgeable servers but the wine isn't cheap! Lots of small lounge areas. Car par is controlled so make sure you register your vehicle. There are a few very posh houses being built on the cliffs around the hotel so there is some noise but not too intrusive

Don’t let the arrival at the front put you off, as the hotel’s ambience is all to do with its fabulous position overlooking Mawgan Porth bay. The sea and sky views from all the main views are stunning. Restaurant and all day diner serve high quality local, fresh choices. The hotel caters for families and dogs- so not ideal if you are looking to get away from it all. Breakfast concentrates on buffet bakery products of cakes and croissants: which proves stodgy for a longer stay; but they do offer a Cornish breakfast or mushrooms on toast for an extra £6. Information regarding activities, restaurant, the 3 swimming pools and exercise classes was hard to find/decypher, even from the website. A brochure in the room and notice boards would be appreciated. We didn’t discover the sister hotel facilities until the last day! Even the restaurant menu’s on the entrance were inconsequential. However, we enjoyed our stay and extended to 8 nights as there was plenty to see and do in the area, and nice walks from the hotel down to the sea.
