Fantastic B & B
I would have given him 6 stars if that was a thing. Paolo was a fantastic host. The room was lovely and spotless. The view was charming of the square. I found it funny that the breakfast was actually at a place across the square, and not IN the hotel, but not a problem. The only complaint I had was not their fault-the bloody pigeons!! Don’t get the room on the 4th floor if you want to sleep late.LOL. I though someone was murdering a chicken. It was just the pigeons on the roof above my head! Plus the lack of elevator was hard, but par for the course in a country where they walk everywhere. Overall, i would absolutely recommend.

Stylish and quirky.
Lovely room in a central location. This is not a hotel, it’s rooms. There is no one on reception, you have to call them. Once contacted they arrived within 10 mins, and were very helpful. Room 3A was fine & as per the photos. Bathroom was a bit small and A little shabby, and there was no tea/coffee - I think they forgot because there were cups and sugar. As it’s not a hotel, there was no one to ask. Continental breakfast is served in a bar across the square, and was fine. There was someone at the desk in the morning and they were happy to store our bags for a few hours after checkout.

Potential but real issues
Difficult to find and the front of the BnB is actually a design storefront with no markings. We were met by a gentleman who spoke no English. That’s ok but he was not even able to use Google translate. Once that was sorted he gave us 2 tickets for breakfast next door at the coffee shop. Imagine the next AM I go to the coffee shop and the owners speak no English but I was rescued by a student. After 2 phone calls I was told they had no idea what I was talking about. They took pity on me and offered me a cappuccino. It turns out the guy who let us in was bey confused and had no idea what was going on due to illness of coworkers. I have asked for a discount due to the hassle and no breakfast. I am waiting for a reply. Also the room is super small w too much furniture. And the TEAL entrance is down a very dark back alley w a gate and up 3 flights of dark narrow stairs. Be aware of this...

Owner and staff went out of their way to ensure we had a good stay. Located in the center of Pavia seconds from the main streets but set in a quiet square. Beautiful view of the city from our bed. Highly recommend this establishment

An unexpected treasure of a stay.
What a delight! A 15th century converted tower with all the quirks (and stairs!) you would expect. Beautiful room overlooking the square with the Duomo. Pavia was an unexpected delight and Martina at La Stanza del Cardinale went out of her way to make us comfortable in the B&B and in the city.

Not quite a hotel?
This hotel is located in the historic area of Pavia close to the main square and good restaurants. While we booked a hotel room, our accomodation was actually a 2 bedroom apartment 2 doors down from the hotel proper. The apartment was well appointed and secure. Parking was off site - secure and very cheap. Breakfast was included in our room rate and served in the small foyer of the hotel. This is what I would describe a 'boutique hotel' - just a few rooms and a small but very friendly staff.

The upper floors are accessed by a rear star...all rooms are walk-ups with fairly steep and narrow access...not great for an 82 year old man with an artificial knee and another with arthritis. Room was attractive with a modern bathroom...generally quite comfortable. Parking on street is limited and restricted and requires a 5 Euro permit per night/. Proprietor was very accommodating. Area is close to pedestrian sections of Pavia...nearby restaurants were good.

Central and comfortable
We had a very pleasant stay in Le Stanze del Cardinale. It located in the centre of Pavia, which has a beautiful Duomo and lovely cafe bars and restaurants nearby. We actually stayed in a self-contained unit (Deluxe Suite, 2 Bedrooms, City View), two doors along from the main B&B, but it was easy to pop downstairs for breakfast. The rooms were clean and appointed with nice antique and reproduction furniture. We have only two small gripes about the room. Firstly, the bed was a mattress put on top of the sofa bed. Although it was quite comfortable, the mattress kept slipping down a little and we had to push it back on: a proper bed would be better. Secondly, the room had a bit too much furniture in it, so moving around was a little like an obstacle course at times. On the whole, it it a great place to stay and very centrally located.

Perfect stay in old Pavia.
This is a beautiful facility. It's an old building in the historic centre of Pavia, so don't expect modern decor. Every part of the building is lovingly decorated and furnished with unique pieces. I had a single room - small but perfectly adequate for one person, with an en-suite bathroom and beautifully powerful shower. I arrived late - close to midnight - but was met cheerfully and effiiciently and my case taken to my room. Checkout was just as friendly. Location cannot be beaten - right by the Duomo. A fantastic find.
