Squirrel's Nest West in private Gold Country location

THE PROPERTY

Squirrel's Nest West has upgraded to a Tempur-Pedic mattress in the king-sized bed.

This is a newly renovated, very private cottage, that is conveniently located. You'll have easy access to exciting attractions via Interstate Highway 80, which is 5 minutes away on a well-maintained, paved, two lane road with shoulders.

The yard at Squirrel's Nest West has been thoroughly masticated within the past two years. Dead trees have been removed and long-needled pine needles have been raked and hauled away.

Meadow Vista is an ideal location and perfect destination for you if you are looking for invigorating outdoor activities! It is a friendly community which is normally "above the fog of the California coast and below the snow-line of the Sierra." Squirrel’s Nest West sits at 1,800 feet in elevation and ensures the ultimate getaway!

The Squirrel's Nest West sleeps four with a king-sized bed and a queen-sized sofa sleeper.

Full kitchen with all the necessary appliances and cooking tools. After an eventful day in the great outdoors, prepare a tasty home-cooked meal. There is dining space provided on the granite counter-tops with two stools and a dining table with four chairs.

With the newly constructed concrete-paver patio, guests can enjoy outdoor dining on our wrought-iron, dining table with matching, padded chairs. There is a new outdoor grill and fish cleaning station in the scenic backyard for the convenience of our guests.

Attractively situated on a 1.3 acre lot, surrounded by trees, an added bonus is the beautiful floral, deer-resistant landscaping at Squirrel’s Nest West.

Nestled in a lot adjacent to Winchester Community, within 3 minutes of the Winchester Country Club and stunning views of the Sierra Nevada Mountains you have a retreat to nature. The general public may dine at the Winchester Country Club.

You'll feel like you're a world away from the hustle and bustle of city life, as this home is very secluded on a lot that is 76% tree covered. The 6.6-mile, beautifully scenic Sugar Pine Mountain Trail marks the backyard boundary of this property. It is open year-around with gorgeous views.

Other amenities provided for your comfort and convenience include excellent cell phone service; wireless internet access; large, flat-screen television; and in-unit laundry washer and dryer.

A new heating/cooling system for the entire cottage was installed in 2018. There is also a new, electric wall heater in the bathroom.

The window in the northwest and southwest of the bedroom are screened and open to allow cross-ventilation with movement of air during the warmer summers.

Squirrel's Nest West has hardwired smoke/carbon monoxide detectors.

Quiet neighborhood in great location
A very cozy and comfortable cabin surrounded by plenty of woods to make it private. Very close to Auburn, convenient to I-80 and SH49. We hiked the trail, gazed at the stars, and woke up to deer in the yard. An absolutely wonderful stay.

Our Meadow Vista Anniversary Retreat.
My wife and I truely enjoyed our anniversary weekend at this very charming home, surrounded by wild flowers which attracted a female deer each morning and evening, a male and female turkey with 3 babies each morning, a pair of long eared jack rabbits each evening. We relaxed among the tall pine trees listening to the birds sing each morning. If you are looking for a place to relax among nature in the forrest, we recommend that you come rent this home. We look forward coming back here very soon.

Great little house in the woods!
We really enjoyed our stay in the peaceful Squirrel’s Nest. We were secluded in the woods but at the same time just minutes away from anything we needed-shopping, restaurants, hiking and more! The kitchen is spacious and the beds are comfy. It’s really great to be able to relax on the front and back patios and enjoy the birds and squirrels. I would highly recommend this place and look forward to future visits!

Very cozy, cute, quiet and private in a beautiful wooded setting
I was up there to celebrate my birthday with my adult daughter. It’s a good jump-off point to visit the Gold Country, Truckee and Tahoe. We used to live very nearby and are familiar with the area. The neighbors are VERY far apart, so you have a nice feeling of privacy. You can see other homes, so it’s not so secluded that you feel completely out in the middle of nowhere, it’s a perfect location. It’s a short drive into town, and out to I-80. There’s a great grocery store in town, and we also enjoyed eating at the Tin Lantern Bar and Grill, also right there in Meadow Vista. We absolutely loved our stay at this precious cabin. It was very comfortable, updated and very well stocked. I don’t know if I was just exhausted from all of the driving around we did, but I slept better than I have in years. It was perfect for two people. Inez the property manager was very responsive to my questions and when I updated her to let her know we arrived safely and got in just fine. She was very friendly and easy to contact. It gets very hot up there, and the air conditioner did a wonderful job of keeping us cool and comfortable. That is a must for me! We did see deer on our last day, but saw them all over the place while driving around the neighborhood. Let me leave you with some good dining options. Edelweiss for breakfast and lunch and Awful Annie’s for breakfast, both in Auburn. Happy Wok for Chinese, and Pizza Express, both in Auburn, and Dine and Dash in Colfax.

Country vacation
We absolutely enjoyed our stay in Meadow Vista. The cottage had everything we needed. We loved the privacy but convenience to groceries and highway. One thing that would have been nice to have is a closet in the bedroom...but we were able to use the utility closet in the dining area. We were attending a large family wedding and needed to hang suits and dresses up. Great place to stay and would highly recommend. Would use again!! Thank you Ron and Elise

A Great Place to Stay for Auburn and White Water Rafting
My girlfriend and I took a last minute trip up here to raft the American River and found this cute property online. The place is a nice little place for couple that is tucked away in the woods. It has all the amenities that you would wanted on the vacation and is secluded. Plus it close to Auburn and a bunch of local trails. I would recommend this place to everyone.

Quiet, Freshly Remodeled Cabin
We had a very nice stay. The owner was very clear and punctual in her communication. The cabin is freshly remodeled and well supplied. There wasn't a lot of clutter. Everything was super clean. The central air-conditioning worked very well. The place is very quiet and secluded. When you look out the windows, the tree trunks are lovely, yet everything is carefully cleared for fire safety. We saw a hawk flying near the ground a couple of times and a number of deer. There is a very nice restaurant in Meadow Vista called The Tin Lantern which we highly recommend.

No Property Manager & Terrible Customer Service
We have been loyal, satisfied VRBO customers for almost 15 years. On this occasion, we made reservations with the owner. Thereafter, the "property manager" called us, introduced herself and told us she would be the sole contact for "anything" we needed. We checked in and dropped off our belongings. When we returned at 10:30 pm, the combination lock failed on the front door & we were locked out w/our belongings inside. As instructed, we called the property manager four different times at about 15 minute intervals & texted once. She never answered or returned our calls. We were exhausted & totally unfamiliar with this area. The only option left was to depend on GPS to find us a hotel room. When we arrived at the hotel and explained our dilemma, the staff could not have been more compassionate and provided us with toiletries and as much as they could to make our stay better. They exhibited the same 5-Star customer service we are used to when dealing w/VRBOs in the past. Instead of giving us a courtesy call, the so-called "property manager" must have called the owner because the next day the owner contacted us and apologized for the lock but explained it away by saying it had "never happened before". She also explained that the property manager could not help us because she was at her job. In essence, the owner did not have a property manager. She also advised us there is a hidden set of keys on the property and blamed us for the problem because we did not contact her. We told her the property mgr. instructed us she was the sole contact on any problems, we were not made aware of an extra set of keys, and that we did not have the owners phone number. We advised her we expected a refund for the night they locked us out of the property and advised her of the hotel charged us $300.00. She said she would confer w/her husband and call us back. Just like the property manager, she abandoned us and never called us back. We found the hidden key and used it to get in again. We saved all the phone call records, texts, emails and hotel receipts that support this review. Thank you. BTW: We have the same locks on our 2 homes so I was able to work on the lock and applied WD40 they had on the property. It worked the rest of the time we were there except once..
