Treat yourself to some place nicer. The pictures look good but don’t reflect the reality.

Serviceable but a pricey for what you get
This is a serviceable hotel. The room we had (shared bath in the hallway) had a bit of a funky smell that we attributed to recent cleaning as the carpet was still a little damp. The furnishings are a bit tired, and the wallpaper was coming off the wall and buckling. Breakfast is an average continental breakfast, but the seating area is tight. Not sure I'd say the accommodations were worth the cost.

Good location for overnight stay. The room we had had a hallway bathroom (as advertised), so that was a small inconvenience, but the room was comfortable and quiet. Breakfast was simple but fresh (bagels, cereal, yoghurt, fruit, etc.). Recommend if you want a basic, convenient location with no frills. That said, i loved the building itself. It's old - Victorian style with lots of stairs, hallways and rooms.

Wonderful staff. Quaint property and great location! Be aware that due to the nature of an historic building there are no elevators.

The hotel is a charming old Victorian, and we liked it except for having to climb 2 sets of steep stairs to our room. The break fast facilities are very limited, and everything including yogurt and cereals were high carb and high sugar. The coffee was excellent, as was the service!

What a treasure! Friendly, helpful, clean and comfortable rooms. I felt like we were traveling in Europe w/ the quirky outlay of rooms and bathrooms. Tons of charm. Very generous free breakfast. Made our stay in Portland memorable and so worth it - we’ll be back!

One Night in Portland
For a one night it was a good price and was pretty close drive to downtown Portland. I didn't expect the place to be right next to Maine hospital until I was woken up from ambulance sirens. Also, no bathroom in the room didn't see that mentioned in the room description.

Everything was great except the staffs knowledge of the area. We asked the night we arrived for recommendations on restaurants. We wanted a good steak. they recommended Outback... Really? and had no other suggestions. We ended up asking in town at another restaurant and found a great place. The next morning we asked for a referral on a beach to swim and they sent us to a boat ramp with no safe access to the water. weird

Went for old and classy for our last two nights of a 16 day trip. It was nice. Not really in a popular or bustling part of the city, but it was a quick Lyft ride to anyplace that we wanted to go. Rooms were clean, our's had it's own bathroom and two beds and there was plenty of room. The stairs are steep soi you have to be careful with luggage up and down. Food in the morning and many coffee choices were very nice. It was an interesting place to stay.

Imagine the guilted age…
Loved the history of the building and imagining what it was like in the 19th c. All that comes with some quirky sacrifices to modern convenience and building codes. ;-)

1. The bathroom was not usable because the lock jammed. When we asked the front desk staff for help, they weren’t interested in helping us: they didn’t even come upstairs to help us try to open it, instead they just told us to use the public bathroom instead. So we didn’t get to use the bathroom we paid for. (we finally got it open in the morning) 2. The TV remote is held together with scotch tape. 3. The emergency sprinkler on top of the bed is full of dust. 4. Access to our private “hall” bathroom requires walking down the hall and passing the stairs and other ppl’s room. This fact is perfectly hidden by owner’s misleading photos. In conclusion, this inn is in a state of disrepair. Normally we are okay with that because we like old buildings but it is not acceptable when we don’t get what we pay for and the employees do not make any effort to help us with problems. The manager gave us $30 reimbursement for the bathroom troubles. When we booked, we paid an extra $80 for the room with the private bath. So we were not compensated appropriately.

Very old rooms, no elevator and very steep stairs. This is not safe for folks 60 . It was very quiet and they had a nice breakfast. Staff was congenial and helpful but no one available to take luggage up those steep stairs. Great job for a high school young man.

Loved our room(107). It exceeded our expectations as did the hotel for the most part. We appreciated the breakfast however the breakfast area was very small so it made it difficult to get in to get it. This was the only downside to our stay but it was manageable with a little patience. 😊 I would stay here again for sure. Thanks
