Awful experience!!! Part 1

I am not sure where to start, as there were many things that frustrated us during our stay at Canto del Sol. My husband and I chose to stay at Canto del Sol because I had stayed at this same hotel for a month back in 2015. My experience at that time was very positive, so we decided to return. First of all, the hotel building has not been updated since 2015. Everything looks old and run-down, but that was not the main problem. The hotel was severely understaffed. We could not even get clean towels or toilet paper during the week of December 30 to January 3. The restaurant lacked variety in its food offerings. For example, there was no cheese or bananas for breakfast! When we asked, we were told they only had what was available on the buffet. On some days, the tide was high, so during our 16-day stay at the hotel, no chairs from the hotel were allowed on the beach! We had to rent chairs from vendors or stand and walk the entire day on the beach. When we asked security guards if we could take chairs from the hotel to the beach, we were told it was not possible. Meanwhile, all the other hotels had their chairs out on the beach. Guests at Canto del Sol had no such privilege and were left renting chairs from beach vendors. What a shame! During a trip to Las Ánimas Island, we noticed that even there—where the tide was higher—restaurants still provided chairs on the beach, occasionally allowing the water to touch them. I need to preface this by saying the staff at Canto Del Sol are WONDERFUL! It was new to have only 3 vouchers for the all inclusive restaurants for a 7 day stay with Canto Del Sol. We were only able to book 1 reservation because they filled up quickly. On our first night, we walked up to almost empty restaurants that wouldn’t take us due to no reservations and the reservation desk closed at 5pm; our arrival was at 7pm. The rooms are very basic and quite bare. It was an adjustment having the bed on wheels with no locks. Although, what I MUST emphasize about Canto Del Sol is that the staff. Everyone was so kind, so helpful, and frankly just amazing. They made our stay worth it!

The property is good property especially if you are going for a quick trip and are doing activities/ excursions aways from the property. However the hotel is outdated and did not provide a grear variety of food. The food was mostly room temperature or cold and the musical selections played by the pool could have been better. Again minor and nothing to big. Loved the location on the beach and that is was placed close to airport and other activities.

We stayed in an upgraded Mountain View suite, all inclusive with fine dining. We learned that it didn’t include room service, I was shocked and disappointed. I’ll will not be staying here again. The room was outdated, definitely needs a face lift. It was spacious for a 1 bedroom but old, sofa bed was hard with no support.

Room extremely noisy, air conditioner unit not working properly it was exaggerated noisy we had to completely turn it off; after asking the manager for a different room 3 times!!! the front desk manager assigned us a worse room, it was dirty, the air conditioner was worse than the original one, we had to survive the noise for the entire 8 nights at the original room. the front desk manager didn't acknowledge or at least consider our situation extremely disappointed.

It was all very nice except that the beach is very small and most of the huts were pretty much covered up with sand. They could also use a little more entertainment at night to keep the kids busy but for the rest it was a beautiful place!

My second stay at Canto. Probably my last. Buffet is small but adequate. Wasn’t feeling well one day and missed my Ala carte dinner. They would not let me go another night. Exercise team… pls stop blowing the whistle. Earthquake last night I was here… scary. First time ever at an AI that I couldn’t use my arm band for a few hours after 11am checkout to get coffee and breakfast at buffet. Front desk said that was because I booked with Expedia? After flying with Flair and being extra charged for every little thing doubtful I will fly with them, stay at Canto or book with Expedia again. Also no Do not Disturb signs for your room door for some reason.

The stay was affordable and the amenities were nice. However, there are no photos of the ‘mountain view’ rooms, and this is definitely on purpose. The rooms are in a hotel Canta Del Sol purchased to expand their resort and clearly not the ones pictured on booking websites. They were clean and definitely reflect the price but just be prepared for an older room. My room included a kitchenette but no fridge, the microwave didn’t work, the safe was broken, and there was no hair dryer. The service manager was kind, explaining that these rooms get a lot of complaints and make his job difficult. He offered us a new room on the 5th night or a free massage, so we chose the massage as we only had one night left. If you’re looking for a place to sleep and you’re okay with less than luxury this is your place, but if you expect more than a bed keep looking!

Property is nice and clean , the buffet for all inclusive was average. Dining options they have 4 restaurants that you get to reserve one for every 2 days you stay. What I didn’t like is that when I book for Mountain View room .Those rooms are across the street from hotel. Expedia should state that when booking. I told front desk and they said very rudely you get what you pay for. I said exactly I pay to stay in Canto Del Sol not building across the street. Watch out for pool bartender Arturo, he rinses people personal cups (yeti) on top of ice he uses for drinks. Nasty!!!

The room was in terrible condition: old broken floors, faucets, tub. The access to it is an abandoned area full of dirty, broken ragged couches and the patio access was to an abandoned mall full of garbage.
