Our worst holiday home - truly disappointing
The owners manual was the initial indication all was not well with a multitude of bluntly delivered instructions as long as your arm. We arrived in 38 degrees of heat to find only one very old fan for the whole house, no air conditioning, very poor insulation and all the furniture, crockery and beds very old and worn.
The house had also never been cleaned properly, every window ledge was really dirty, the grills in the walls full of spiders and webs.
Having purchased fans for every room as sleep was impossible without them (to date the owner offered a refund to get us to leave all the fans then never paid us) we were mildly more comfortable but due to the property being in the middle of an uncleared wooded site there wasnāt a breath of wind. It was unbearably hot which just made everything else worse.
The biggest issue however, if this wasnāt enough, was the my 80 year old Mum slept in the single room and sustained once of the worse case of insect bites from an infestation in the room. Bed bugs, fleas, spiders? The photographs of her torso are eye watering. She was extremely poorly with her body full of poison and bites. Definitely not mosquitos. The owner admitted that the room hadnāt been used for years but the lack of care and cleanliness, old and patchwork beds and furnishing clearly led to this being able to happen.
We checked out early as soon as we could (we had booking for activities in the area) choosing to spend money (again not refunded) instead of having to endure another moment in the shabbiest of holiday homes I have ever come across.
Here we have an owner intent on being right, totally uncaring about the experience of his guests with the hapless āSylvieā sent to ineffectually listen (speaking no English!) whilst he communicates from his summer house in Russia.
VRBO have been singularly useless in trying to get us a refund for the fans, the hotel or indeed the abject mis-selling of this property. Their app and online complaints contact built to frustrate.
Words canāt express what a dismal experience we had in this house.
