Good Deal In Quito
Good central location (though a bit sketchy after shops close/8pm), great wi-fi, helpful staff, decent breakfast, HOT water (if not just contact the staff and it will get much hotter quickly:), clean and very secure. The dining room is very nice/old-school Ecuador, and the 2nd floor has a large outdoor patio. The single beds would be short if you are over 6', and they were a bit too firm for my current needs, but I made it work. Rooms cleaned daily. I doubt you could do much better for the price *anywhere* in Quito.

Good for the $20 I paid for it.
Came in late. I tried to Facebook message them for a shuttle from the airport, but there was no response. Got there fine in a cab. Breakfast was simple but sufficient.

Great Budget Hotel in Quito!
For a budget hotel I was very impressed with this Hostal! The room was clean and good sized. Bathroom had plenty of hot water, not always the case in Ecuador. Very convenient location, close to alot of restaurants/activities, but far enough from all the noise. If I ever return to Quito I will surely use this Hostal (really a hotel) again!!

Great location for a great price
This is an affordable hotel near plaza Foch where you can get a clean room for a great price. I checked in late at night and the receptionist was very friendly. Would stay there again.

Check carefully what this hotel charges you
The reception charged me twice the amount that hotels.com told me to pay. Yes, this hotel is inexpensive, but make sure you check the bill. Inexpensive hotels can turn out to be expensive.

Best budget option in Mariscal!
This is the perfect budget hotel in Mariscal! The rooms are comfortable and well-furnished, they provide tons of warm blankets and they have HOT WATER. Many South American budget accommodations don't have this. The staff are super friendly as well, and it's only a short walk to the nightlife of Mariscal.

Great service and nice place to stay
Wonderful! Comfortable and services/friendliness was a "6" out of 5! This is well-beyond almost any place I have ever stayed (I've stayed at over a hundred hostels and budget hotels during my years of travels). Please ask for Jonathan. He has a nice little wall of thank you notes from all the satisfied short- and long-term visitors. Also ask for the newer remodeled rooms. They are great. How is it only a two start accommodation? Folded towel animals, decent-sized clean and pretty rooms (not bare-boned), good common area wifi, laundry and afternoon coffee available upon request, taxi/shuttle booking, tour bookings...there's a lot more neat or free perks I'm not mentioning. Jonathan will take care of you! Plus he speaks great English - not something you get at all hotels!

Good location
I chose this hotel because it was in a good location to get to the old city easily (30 min walk/$4 taxi). The hostel served that purpose and provided a bed to sleep in. The service at the hostel was limited. The hostel desk has a sign that says service is important so if you need something just ask. I did not experience the service they suggested. On night one, the front desk didn't to give me a message from my tour operator that my tour time had been moved from 8am to 7am. This hotel also says it provides a breakfast starting at 7am. I went for breakfast and there were 3 other people but no food. I left at 7:25 and still no food yet. When I returned I asked the desk if they could book an airport transfer for me. My request was met with a sigh. He told me that I should flag a taxi. I told him I prefer to know a car is coming since I had an early flight. He made one call and told me that he would flag a taxi for me. He did flag a taxi in the morning but airport transfer service is listed on the sign. Finally, they guarantee hot water in the shower. Their sign suggests that you may have to run the water for a few minutes. I ran the water and 15 minutes later I felt guilty for wasting water so I got into the cold shower. Their were 3 people in my room. The 2nd person had a cold shower after running the water for 5 minutes and finally the 3rd person had a hot shower. We estimate it took 25-30 minutes of running the water before it got hot.

Overpriced
Stayed one night. Toilet would not stop running and was running onto floor. They shut the water off and said they would fix it the next day. Didn't offer us a room change or a discount. Overpriced for $45.

Good location, friendly and helpful staff
For the price, this Hostal is what one can expect. For a longer stay, a better bathroom would be nice. The room was reasonably clean and what matters, the people at the front desk were very helpful and always pleasant. Could be a bit noisy depending on the time of the year, but it is very central.

A bit scruffy
We got in very late- after 1:00 am. Security was fine. The fellow at the front desk came and unlocked the front door. The outside of the hostal looks the best. The place has good bones, but is run down. Our room was really dark. Breakfast was sparse. Staff whipped up some fluffy scrambled eggs though. Staff wasn't friendly. Everyone had enough hot water for their showers.

THEY CANCELLED MY RESERVATION!
After a long trip i got to the hostal and i got there the guy said, sorry sir, we don't have your reservation booked, expedia never sent the emai confirmation!. imagine everyone after your long way trip to another country find yourself in the situation to kick the streets looking out for another place to stay, you're supposed to be tired and be wanting to rest, instead walk out on the streets looking for a room. Who's fault is this?. Expedia?. The Hostal?. Really bad experience overall!

Not as nice as I was expecting
From the other reviews I was expecting something nicer. Room was very small. The blankets they provided were not very warm and we all spent the night cold. Breakfast was not very good at all. White bread, cut-up hot dogs, butter and very weak coffee. No eggs and not even jam. For the price you could easily find something nicer.

noisy
bed was `fine. no english tv , but spanish is what is spoken in equador. breakfast was good, with scrambled eggs, juice, strong coffee. but 20 backpackers from europe came and made noise like screaming children. at midnight , even one am . . and the night person might have said 'be quiet, there are people sleeping ' , but he didn't. they stayed in the lobby and yelled at each other. girls screaming and giggling. i got up and yelled at one of the workers to shut the inconsiderate babies up. and i don't think i should have had to . . so my advise is to train the night shift person to open the door for loud guests, then walk them to their rooms, while asking them to respect the other sleeping guests and keep their loud mouths quiet.

good deal for the price
had a comfortable stay before flying from Quito to Cuenca. Good area and surroundings, felt comfortable walking around. Close to bar area but still reasonably quiet, close to ATMs and numerous restaurants. Friendly service as well. Only complaint is that the Hotels.com listing advertises a shuttle bus to the airport. There is no shuttle, although they were very helpful in calling a taxi ($30 one way, arranged by hotel). I had assumed, after reading their description, that I would be able to take a shuttle bus (I had assumed that this might be $10 instead of $30, since the ad mentioned there was a small fee for the shuttle).
