About this property

1900's Tuckahoe Farmhouse, a stroll away from Thomas Jefferson's childhood home

This 1900’s farmhouse was one of the original Sears and Roebuck kit houses, and as such is a fascinating piece of American history, and retains that old American charm in a beautiful country setting. Looking out the window of any of the bedrooms, you’ll see horse fields and tractor barns, which makes it hard to believe you are just 20 minutes away from Richmond City. A short stroll down a dirt road will bring you to Historic Tuckahoe, the childhood home of Thomas Jefferson, with its beautiful gardens and rich history.

With 3 bedrooms, the Farmhouse sleeps 7, but with cots/air mattresses you are welcome to have up to 10 people stay. The 2 primary bedrooms are upstairs: the French bedroom with 2 twin beds, and the master bedroom with 2 queen sized beds. 1 additional bedroom on the first floor offers a single twin bed.
The house has 2 full bathrooms (1 upstairs and 1 downstairs), laundry room, and a complete kitchen stocked with standard kitchen appliances (cook stove, microwave oven, coffee maker, refrigerator/freezer) as well as cooking utensils (pots, pans, dishes etc.).
In addition to bedrooms, there is a spacious living room and dining room, which seats up to 8. Wifi and cable TV have recently been added. Well behaved pets are welcome in lower floor of the house, but please not in the upstairs bedrooms.

Historic
What we loved most about this rental was the quiet, serenity, and beauty of Historic Tuckahoe. As a lover of history, it was special to me to be walking the grounds that Thomas Jefferson walked when he lived here as a boy. I loved exploring the property and waiting for the chickens to get out of the road as we drove in and out every day. And I loved the activity of the riding stable directly next to us and the he rental location was perfect. It is in a very safe area just west of Richmond, but very close to everything we needed. Margaret, the property manager, was excellent and did everything to make our stay happy and special. She was immediately responsive to our initial inquiry and was able to accommodate our early check in request and she checked on us often throughout our stay. She is awesome!

Family vacation 2024
Our entire family enjoyed this charming home to come home to after a day of historical sightseeing. Our love of old homes made it the perfect place to make a home base and Missy was an absolute joy to deal with. Her warm personality and hospitality just topped off this wonderful home. I cannot recommend this place enough, clean, inviting, and comfortable beds.

Great place!
The farmhouse was just what we wanted: plenty of room, nice quiet location, well-apportioned kitchen, and comfortable! Missy was an exceptional host and communicator, and loved that we had a dog with us! She answered all our questions, gave us great tips for fun things to do, and was responsive to our needs. We were visiting Richmond for my daughter's art show opening and artist talk at Artspace. We stayed only one night; however, we can envision a return in the future for a longer stay.

Lovely Stay on a Country Estate
My two sisters and i needed a place to stay near Richmond. We choose the farmhouse because of its location and the price. It was a great value! We loved having the freedon to roam the acres of beautiful open space. The house had everything we needed and was clean and comfortable. Great place to stay.

Rural family get together
We loved the farmhouse with spacious rooms, modern facilities, antique furniture, comfortable beds; the peacefulness and rural environment with nearby stables of horses, chickens, pastures, and the lovely historic buildings and gardens. Some of our family spent an enjoyable day with us. And Missy was wonderful, and we enjoyed our conversations with her. There are stores conveniently located close by, and our excursions to Chase City, Jamestown, and Williamsburg were pleasant day trips. In conclusion, we had an excellent vacation and would like to return one day and stay at least one week again.

Historic stay
The property is located a short walk away from Thomas Jefferson's early childhood school house, on the historic Tuckahoe plantation This is a rustic farmhouse with period furniture with indoor plumbing and other modern amenities. The property manager (Missy) was great and easy to communicate with. As "country" as the setting is, grocery stores, high end shopping and other amenities are close by. There is a mile long dirt road leading to the farmhouse. Your GPS directions might tell you to turn right at the end of the dirt road... you will need to turn left and head to the "farmhouse." We had a great visit!

Unique and fun stay!
We stayed one night as we were in town visiting friends and the farmhouse made for a unique and fun experience. The listing photos are accurate- this is an old house! - but it was very well outfitted and the beds and furniture were comfortable. Missy was incredibly gracious as a host, and our groups kids loved meeting the animals and horses in the property. Highly recommend heading to Hardywood brewery 10 minutes away for an early beer and snack. I would note that the twin bedroom is on the main floor and does not have a full door and is open to the main living room - with a loud sound machine this worked just fine for us, but it could pose a challenge for others with children

Wonderful Farmhouse
This is the second time we have stayed at the place and we still like it very much. Having such a sprawling property to walk around with only horses, sheep, cows, and chickens on the property makes time outside very special. There is no wifi at the farmhouse but they do have a TV in the family room. Furnishings are wonderfully period-specific and modern amenities, like the kitchen and bathrooms, and sufficient.

We arrived with 3 children and 4 adults and found this to be a beautiful place that was exactly what we needed. The space was a perfect fit for our family. The grounds are beautiful and very historic. We tour Tuckahoe and walked around the grounds. It is close to everything you need. We would return to stay here again if the opportunity arises.

Enjoying the countryside
My family and I had a great stay. The home was clean and peaceful. Being able to walk around the property and enjoy the history was the best part. There was 11 of us total during our stay. My only suggestion would be to get a little more comfy furniture for the living room sitting area. The house is filled with antique furniture which is absolutely beautiful. I loved that we all unplugged from technology and just enjoyed one another.

We had a two weeks stay at this beautiful house and it was the calm, peaceful place we needed after the action packed days. The kids could safely play outside. We didn’t know much about it, but took big interest in its historical background.
