Maybe we just had poor timing.
This hotel has massive rooms. The pull-out couch was inferior, but everything else was very nice. Our issue arose with other people on our floor. They made so much noise running between rooms. We thought they were moving furniture. We asked at least one room group to keep it down, but a half hour later, we asked the staff to help. The staff tried, but most loud guests wouldn’t open their doors to talk. Eventually, we had to move at 1 am to a smaller room and make the couch l into an extra bed. Again, the staff was friendly. It was, however, a dissatisfying stay because of other guests.

We needed a suite that would offer privacy between the bedroom and living room. The roomy suite was perfect - large enough that 3 of us didn't feel cramped and with the bathroom accessible from both rooms. Great staff, esp Jovan. A few easy to fix quirks like dresser drawers that slide open on there own (a little cardbaord under the front legs fixed that for us).

The Commonwealth is a lovely landmark hotel in a convenient part of the city for sightseeing, just one block from the Virginia State Capitol and easy walking distance to several historical sites. Very comfortable rooms, love the colorful art and decor! Each room comes with free high-speed wi-fi and 50” flatscreen TVs; the suite also includes a beautiful armoire for luggage and clothing. The beds are soft but firm enough for those who don’t like to sink down into the mattress, and while I usually have problems with most hotel pillows, I have NO complaints here; you can choose from several pillows of varying firmness—an option every hotel should offer, in my opinion! I also love, love, love their luxurious bathrooms with walk-in showers! The suite living rooms and kitchenettes are spacious, and I easily could have fallen asleep on a very comfortable sofa. An additional plus: the rooms all have multiple outlets and USB ports for electronics (*note*: ports are USB-A; bring a charger block or adapter if any of your devices use USB-C). At Rueger’s, their in-house restaurant, I had a BLT sandwich one evening and a cinnamon waffle with berries the next morning; both were delicious. Excellent, friendly service from all of the staff as well. I’ll definitely book here again the next time I come to Richmond.

The room was not like the room on the website. I don’t know if it was bc of me booking through Expedia or not. I was placed right next to the elevator. My view was the room across from me, so I had to keep my curtain closed. The a/c units were right next to my window so I heard that all night and also something that sounded like a furnace. The room is already painted black so it was super dark. I would give this property a 7. It was clean but it still needs work.
