GREY FOREST COTTAGES: Robert Wood Art Cottage (#2)

You'll have all the comforts of home in this historic limestone cottage with all the updated amenities. This rock cottage is perfect for relaxing and taking a break from all the stresses of life or after an eventful day visiting SeaWorld, Six Flags, the iconic country music venue Floore’s Country Store or the romantic San Antonio RiverWalk.

Your rustic loft sits next to the main house of this historic property. This little pocket of paradise is nestled right on the outskirts of NW San Antonio and was home to the famous landscape artist Robert Wood back in the 1930's and 40’s.

THE SPACE

This historic rock cottage is a loft style with an upstairs bedroom furnished with a comfortable King bed, a nostalgic tin roof ceiling and lots of windows. (This is the actual room the famous British landscape painter, Robert Wood, used as his art studio.) Downstairs are an updated kitchen with granite countertops, a renovated bathroom with walk-in shower and an inviting living room with French doors that open to the rock courtyard. This cottage also has high-speed wireless internet access as well as a flat screen Smart TV & cable programming.

GUEST ACCESS

You will have access to a furnished outdoor rock courtyard with a waterfall fountain, or you can just sit around the fire pit during cool evenings. A washer & dryer are located on the premises should guests need to do a single load. You are also free to use our two nostalgic cruiser bicycles to explore the country lanes of Grey Forest.

THE NEIGHBORHOOD

Perhaps the best feature of our cottages is that they are located in historical Grey Forest not far from the old stagecoach line from Boerne to San Antonio. We are just minutes from SeaWorld and Six Flags and only about 17 miles from the Alamo and the romantic San Antonio Riverwalk.

If you want to stay closer, within walking or biking distance is a very romantic and well known restaurant called the ‘Grey Moss Inn’ ( In addition there are various nature walking paths, a spring fed creek and Madla Natural Area close by. We are only 2.5 miles from Old Town Helotes, which is home to the John T. Floore Country Store where major Country Music acts routinely perform. ( It is where Willie Nelson got his start and still plays every October. Market Days are every first Saturday of the month where you can visit are several shops and just enjoy the "Old Town" feel. This property was close to the city, but offer the quiet one looks for in a get away. The owner was very helpful, and the home was fully stocked. It is a small space, but it is very open. The shower is beautiful! I definitely recommend this property. Very clean, and gorgeous!

Birthday weekend
I took my wife to San Antonio for a birthday weekend, and we picked this location because it looked like San Antonio because of the courtyard. The house was exactly as listed and had everything we needed, but had a few inconvenient features- the bedroom is on the 2nd floor while the bathroom is on the ground floor, and the 2nd floor was difficult to keep cool in the summer heat. That was more than balanced by the amazing courtyard, where we had breakfast each morning and finished each day. The location was remote and quiet, allowing us to relax outside on a wide variety of furniture and listen to birds and insects mixed with the bubbling fountain. It was a very relaxing stay, and we would recommend this location to others. We had a great weekend!

We loved or stay in this one of a kind cottage. We had plenty of privacy, and enjoyed the beautiful patio and the array of local birds so much. The upstairs bedroom sports a comfy king size bed and a beautiful view of the area. We are looking forward to our next visit.

While in Helotes for a music event had the pleasure of staying at the Art cottage. All was as explained and had a Great stay. If artsy and eclectic age is not your bag stay in a fancy hotel. If quiet and a woodsy feel is to your liking this is your spot!! 3 miles or so to old town Helotes and Floores Country store for music. This place and Marys Tacos are a must if visiting the San A &Helotes area. Also the Six Klick Cafe is a good spot. Hanging out on the patio under the giant Oak trees at the cottage is a cool spot.

We really enjoyed our stay. Beautiful 100+ year old cottage that has been updated and maintained very well. Bedroom was comfortable and it was remarkably quiet to sleep. Much better than a hotel with other guests banging the hallways. Instructions were clear and check in was completely on our time and was easy. John T Floore's Bucket List Weekend
We stayed for the weekend so that my husband could see a show at historic John T. Floore's Country Store. The property was fantastic and very peaceful, and so was the neighborhood. It is a quick 2.5 miles to JTF. I would LOVE to return to stay longer and spend some time relaxing on the patio.

The place was very clean, pretty and comfortable. The parking was a little small since we had a pickup. The communication about how we should get in the house and how to check out was not explained to us beforehand. But the lady was very nice when she did communicate with us. The staircase in the house is a safety hazard. The stairs are very narrow and the banisters are loose.

Amazing Stonework Cottage Getaway
Beautiful property in a wooded, relaxing neighborhood with an amazing guest house cottage and courtyard built with stone yet with all the modern amenities needed. Kept us cool in the Texas heat, was a calm, thoughtful and romantic escape for my wife and I, and it opened our eyes to a charming area in Helote in NW San Antonio. Still within 30-40 minutes from downtown, SW San Antonio, and the airport, it was a perfect location to balance all of our activities. Owners were extremely gracious and kind throughout the stay. Our only regret is that we could not stay longer. Hoping to stay here again if we’re ever back in the area!

Property was close to Floore's, Helotes shopping, and Bandera. Off the beaten path. Tucked into a beautiful, treed neighborhood, with patio seating. Accommodation is nicely decorated, has full kitchen, covered stoop, back door to patio, great wifi and TV service. Only thing that could possibly be added is small square shelf unit next to bathroom sink. Loved the natural stone and weathered wood throughout the place.
