We have owned our French home for 9 years now . It was built in the eighteenth century and sits in the medieval ramparts of the beautiful, unspoilt village of Sancerre which is as stunning as the wine of the same name. We have renovated the house to a high standard to provide a perfect home from home for families or individuals who wish to enjoy all that Sancerre has to offer On the ground floor there is a large fully equipped kitchen with dining area, a tv/ sitting room with log burner ,w/c and hand basin and to the rear there is a large lounge with log burner which leads onto a sun terrace and down to a secure and fully enclosed garden which is perfect for a BBQ or for children to play in whilst you enjoy a glass of Sancerre on the sun terrace . Upstairs there is a large bathroom with a shower bath ,w/c and hand basin with, a master bedroom with super king size bed, a second bed room with king size bed and a third bedroom with bunk beds. All bed linen and towels are provided.
The village square with its numerous cafes restaurants and shops is less than a five minute walk away. If you like fine dining then La Tour, the Michelin star restaurant is a must and in comparison to uk prices is excellent value for money especially at lunchtimes during the week. The extremely popular French language school is also just a 5 minute walk from our home.
Sancerre is the most picturesque of French hilltop villages which ouzes charm with its quaint, sleepy streets, beautiful church and tower and unspoilt ancient houses. Wine tasting, of course, is obligatory and in plentiful supply with over three hundred vineyards to chose from! However make sure you do not miss the other local speciality which is the goats cheese from the beautiful neighbouring village of Chavignol. This creamy cheese is a perfect match with your glass of Sancerre.
There is kayaking and swimming to be had in the Loire in the summer as well two very large open air swimming pools and baby pool in the village at the foot of Sancerre. There is also a golf course and campsite next to the pools, all of which are alongside the majestic Loire. There are also numerous beautiful walking and cycle routes to choose from most of which wind through the stunning vineyards. A firm favourite with our family is cyclo railing- a disused railway track where you sit in a steel chariot powered by two bikes. Great fun and exercise, A half hour drive away is the beautiful city of Bourges with its cathedral which is listed as a UNESCO world heritage site. We love climbing the 400 steps to the top of the tower. If you have children we would recommend a visit to Guedelon, a great building project where a chateau is being built using traditional techniques. If you think you may be staying in some evenings and cooking there are two supermarkets in Sain’t ,local markets are held once a week in most of the nearby villages. There is also as a large open air market held in Cosne sur Loire on a Wednesday and Sunday morning which has a great atmosphere and is buzzing with typical French life. As we have never let out our home before if there are things you do not like or agree with on the description or you have ideas on how we could improve anything please do let us know so we can sort them out for next time. If you need any more information or have any queries please just drop us a line and we will respond as quickly as we can.
