The room was dirty , bathroom was dirty and in need of repair. Very dated decor, carpet was in need of a clean and there was a thick layer of dust on the curtains. Reception was supposed to be manned 24 hours , but we were on Island for Scooter rally and ended up locked out on return from an event and after knocking and getting no response had to make a phone call and eventually a member of staff who came out in his boxer shorts , let us in. I requested a plaster for a cut on my hand and member of staff on reception didn't know where to find one and didn't know where the first aid kit was kept. He complained that he wasn't supposed to be working that day. We were very disappointed and it definitely wasn't worth the £370 we paid for two nights excluding breakfast.

Very scruffy and unclean room
The hotel is extremely tired and in desperate need of redecorating. Room was dirty. Dead flys on the window ledge, cobbweb in the corners and rubbish under the bed from the previous guests. Checked in just after 3pm and when I asked about the restaurant at 4pm i was told i was too late to book. Staff were friendly enough but that didn't compensate for the lack of cleanliness.

Bedding was stained with makeup. Dinner was appalling burnt so that you couldn’t cut it things just shattered only tepid and vegetable boiled so there was little colour left food was obviously all frozen and nothing fresh

Very decent & value for money
Had a lovely stay, nice comfortable and clean rooms. Guy at reception was really quick to respond to our requests. It's an old hotel so don't expect state of the art amenities but still has everything you would need. Free parking and a nice lawn outside with table and chairs. Decent breakfast options and a large breakfast area. Good Indian restaurant near the area.

Stayed for 3 nights in middle of summer. Reception was totally deserted when I arrived at 8pm, had to wait 10 minutes for receptionist to even arrive! Lobby, bar and main building is really old and stale. Obviously hasn’t had any renovation or had new furniture in decades. Didn’t eat in restaurant, but it looked the same. Thankfully I was put in the “new” wing, where the room was actually okay. Bed was comfy, nice shower. TV with lots of channels, although reception was a bit bad. But at least the room seemed like it had been decorated in the last decade. Noisy fan in the bathroom, but I was able to switch that off.

Beautiful Victorian mansion, lovely gardens in a good location. For an overnight stay in the peak season costing £70 this was great value for money. One of the windows in our room (being very old) would not shut. Bedding was clean and fresh. Breakfast not included. Dinner needed to be booked by 4pm for 6.30pm.Overall very good,

Very dated and tired venue. My room was at the rear of the hotel and there was a constant loud droning noise from a generator 24/7 and occasional noise from a ventilation shaft located right outside the window. It was impossible to get a good night’s sleep despite wearing earplugs. The kitchen and restaurant staff had their cigarette breaks directly below my room very early in the morning and later in the day, during which they had shouty, expletive-laden conversations and aired their grievances about hotel guests. I did not receive fresh towels despite requesting room servicing. There was a fire alarm at 1:30 am on my final night (apparently somebody was smoking in room, so not fault of the hotel) that was totally disorganised and we received no information from hotel staff. It was left to another guest to inform the crowd it was safe to return to our rooms. I can now see why this hotel was so cheap. You get what you pay for I suppose.

A little bit run-down but reflected in price. The grounds were lovely. Room was comfortable and clean but unfortunately TV did not work. Staff friendly and helpful. Note: there is no swimming pool anymore.

The property is lightly dated. Although advertised the pool has been filled in and is now an outside seating area. Kept awake till gone 2am but that's the guests so no fault of the hotel. Other than that fantastic value for money and the all you can eat breakfast was very tasty. We would stay again.
