Hotel Chimayo is a clean, charming hotel in a great location right off the Plaza. However, they don't have elevators to the rooms, so if one is disabled and can't do stairs, you could be in trouble. Two couples in our party of 8 people in 4 rooms asked for a ground floor room months in advance. One is actually wheel chair bound, and I have great difficulty with stairs due to bad knees. We even called a few days before our trip to remind them that we needed 2 ground floor rooms, but when we arrived at the time we told them to expect us (we were not late) all the ground floor rooms were already occupied, and we had to struggle up 15 steps to the second floor with all our luggage. Thankfully, our wheelchair bound friend was moved to a ground floor room the next day, but I struggled with the stairs for the next 3 days. This is a terrible way to treat guests. First, the hotel should honor their reservations for a ground floor room. Second, they should let it be known on their website that there is NO ELEVATOR to upstairs rooms. Even able bodied people were struggling to get children and lots of luggage up the stairs. Would you stay at a hotel that doesn't have an elevator and doesn't honor its reservations? CAVEAT EMPTOR!

Another Heritage Hotel Flop. We came up from Albuquerque for our anniversary and know that location equals higher rates. But for $500, we were completely let down. The staff was really lovely, the common areas are beautiful and the robes ate soft and comfy. But the rooms? Awful. Ours was dark, dank, and dated with a musty smell. The rug is so old it bubbles throughout the room. A/C was LOUD and did not work properly which made for miserable sleeps. The drainage in the accessible shower was so poor that there was water almost all the way to the sink which made getting ready dangerous. I didn’t realize Hotel Chimayo is also a Heritage Hotels property when I booked it; but it makes total sense. I stayed at the Inn and Spa at Loretto which is part of that group and I had the same experience. They rest on their locations and don’t feel any need to make BASIC updates. Plus I emailed the front desk about the A/C issue with no response. Truly disappointing.

The best thing about this property is that it is close to everthing downtown. The hotel is older but clean. Great staff. There was a shooting one of days we were there. Thankfully no one but the shooter was hurt. But we ee not allowed to leave or get around. I would go again but not when they have their Fiesta again.

2 restaurants. 1 served mediocre food, no alcohol. The other served alcohol but no food. No valet service, no bellhop service. Hotel offered no breakfast. For a Heritage hotel, could have been better.

Hotel has tons of character and right off the Plaza. Staff was very friendly and helpful. The room felt a little dingy, so maybe paint, and had a strange set of stairs going down to the next floor. Very comfy bed. Unfortunately the nice in-house restaurant wasn’t open. The best part is the beautiful front porch with comfy chairs and shielded from the street with landscaping. Great place to sit and read with a glass of wine.
