I'm sorry this hotel might be historic, but it is old, smells bad, and the food is disappointing. On the plus side the rooms are big but lack a microwave that would be a plus.

ROACH INFESTED! Spotted two roaches on the bed in room 381. Front desk moved us to another room on the other side of the hotel. Front desk offered a refund but since booked through Expedia she couldn’t. Manger only gave a 25% refund. They need to have this roach issue taken care of ASAP. After years of staying here, I’m not staying here again!!! I’m traumatized.

The Santa Maria Inn presents a captivating first impression with its charming and historical common areas. The decor is rich with character and history, making the shared spaces a pleasure to be in and hinting at a classic, elegant experience. However, this initial charm unfortunately does not extend to the rooms. While the beds are clean and there's an attempt to maintain a historical feel, the reality is that the rooms feel poorly maintained and significantly outdated. The cosmetic charm fails to mask the need for a serious renovation. To add to the disappointment, my stay was disrupted by noise from ongoing maintenance and construction, which was a clear sign that renovations are underway—a necessary improvement, but one that significantly detracts from the guest experience. Given the combination of dated room conditions and disruptive construction noise, the price point for this stay feels high and the overall value is below average. It's a place with great potential once the renovations are complete, but in its current state, it's hard to recommend.

So fun, stroll around.

I loved this place. At one time it was a big hoopie-do with the aristocrats but now it is well preserved. The grounds are quite big so you can stroll around, which you definitely should do. The haunted Ghost stories shouldn't bother you, i didn't see anything even though we were looking and i had a friend that was a little bit clairvoyant. Whatever.
