Cavern House Helios is ideally located in the heart of the traditional village of Exo Gonia, a picturesque setting of cobbled lanes and blue domed churches nestled within the vine covered hills. The property is located at the top of the village, just a minutes’ walk from the carpark and is the perfect base for all your activities on Santorini with the beaches of Kamari and the island’s capital Fira both within just 15 minutes’ drive, the award-winning tavernas Metaximas and Anemoloos just minutes’ walk from the door and the neighbouring village of Pyrgos offering an assortment of shops and amenities. The properties location ensures easy access to the best that the island has to offer whilst also providing a relaxing and peaceful getaway when required.

Carved from volcanic rock, the original house dates back to 1840 has been lovingly restored in the traditional style and updated to an immaculate standard to ensure a comfortable and carefree stay for all guests.

Indoors this traditional Santorinian home comprises 3 double bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, kitchen and a lounge. Furnished with care and attention to detail with pieces chosen to compliment unique architectural style, the property features a fully equipped kitchen including all appliances, cutlery, crockery. Laundry facilities, linen and beach towels are provided. The lounge area features a flat screen TV, Netflix and a DVD player with a broad selection of films for those stay indoors nights.

The lounge area opens directly to the courtyard and adjoining sun terrace with overflowing bougainvillea and a herb garden where guests can enjoy shaded and sun filled areas including a barbecue and dining area accommodating 6 people on the courtyard as well as sun lounges and additional outdoor sofas along with a plunge pool on the sun terrace.

It is sure to impress and allow you to slip effortlessly into island time while enjoying the panoramic views of the vine terraces of Profitis Ilias and the endless views across the Aegean to the island of Anafi and beyond as well as the amazing caldera sunset views just a few minutes away by car.

Santorini vacation
We enjoyed our stay in this modern cave house. It’s good to experience how other people, cultures and countries live. It was very quiet and peaceful and we enjoyed the cats that roam around every where. Parking is about a five minute walk up and down a cobblestone path. Not an easy walk with large suitcases if one is out of shape or the elderly (which we are both.) Our health and leg muscles improved after our stay here. The only negative which the host had no control over were the power outages that occurred for energy savings during our stay. The manager of the property, Petros was very helpful and always responded to our questions very quickly. I would definitely recommend this location.

Fantastic stay, great property and excellent location with amazing views of santorini
Great stay in Exogonia, Sarah was very helpful and the property was very clean and decor lovely. Facilities were all I could ask for. The location is great with an amazing view towards Kamari and other islands. Our teenagers enjoyed the spaces and it was very comfortable. Parking was a minutes walk from the property near the amazing church. Very close to great restaurants and well places for exploring the whole island. Would definetly come back again!

Not suitable for families with small children or over 50’s. Access to the property was problematical due to the steepness of the hill and cobbled street. Size of the property was smaller than advertised. Did not expect 1 of the bathrooms to have outside access only. Seating in the living area was uncomfortable and not suitable for the amount of people the property claimed to accommodate. The bedrooms had no windows, in 1 bedroom the bed was so high a step had to be used to get onto it. The passage way to the other 2 rooms was slippery and due to its undulation, poor lighting and unexpected steps was incredibly dangerous. The steps up to the roof terrace were too steep and too shallow, slippery when wet and therefore a hazard making the roof terrace unusable for many guests.

Amazing property, well located, perfect for our needs
We stayed 11 nights at the property and loved it. We were 2 adults, 2 elderly adults and 2 children (8 and 10) and it was great for our needs. Exo Gonia is a quiet residential neighborhood with little alleys, typical greek island white buildings, pink flowers, Greek Orthodox churches and chapels, and numerous cats, overlooking the opposite site of the caldera. Feels authentic, far from the crowds. From the property, you see the sea, the island of Anafi in the distance, the west side of Santorini and the sunrise. Sarah was very helpful at the time of the check-in and during our stay. The property is very well located, central on the island. It is close to everything with a car. It is located a few minutes away from grocery stores, cities, restaurants. When we arrived, Sarah met us to welcome us and help us with our luggage and show us the property. There was a little bit of food and water in the fridge for us so we didn’t have to go to the grocery right away. It was very appreciated after a very long trip/2 flights from Canada. The house is built in a deep cavern, so not ideal for someone who is a bit claustrophobic (like one of our family member) but there’s a room located closer to the door/living room so it was alright. There’s air conditioning in the bedrooms, the beds are comfortable, kitchen is large enough and equipped to cook small meals. There’s a washing machine, 2 full bathrooms, an outdoor area to eat and a terrasse with views, lounging area and a small pool. Truly an amazing place to stay and relax after a long day of visiting cities, going to the (numerous) beaches, etc. There are 2 restaurants at walking distance and both were fantastic and authentic greek cuisine. Our son got a bit sick (asthma) and Sarah helped us to find a doctor to see him right away. The only downside i would say is the accessibility. The parking is a 5-7 minutes walk from the house, and quite uphill. Disabled or elderly people would have a hard time to get to the property and to bring their luggages. Also, the parking is sometimes full so we had to park further. And the terrace of the property is located at the top of a very long and steep staircase. It is an amazing place for someone mobile and in minimal good physical shape but should maybe avoided for a disabled and very old person. Anyway, Santorini is an island where you need to walk and climb uphill. We had truly a great time, we were very sad to leave and we hope to come back one day!

Fun Firm Retreat
We had an excellent time in this property. Everything was wonderful and we were well looked after. Our other colleagues were staying in Afoura Houses down the road, also in Ex Gonia but unfortunately they had a horrific stay. So happy we got this property instead of theirs. Some of the other group had to pay extra to stay elsewhere. So be careful who you rent from - and you can definitely trust this property! You will have a great time here unlike Afoura Houses

An Amazing And Unforgettable Experience
This holiday and accommodation exceeded all and any aspirations and lived up to every single expectation and more than ! The whole experience was immense and the work and quality that Sarah has put into creating such an amazing villa is impressive. The Location is excellent, beautifully quiet, amazing views and with virtually anything that you would want to see on the island within a 15-20 minute drive away. Sarah, the owner is always on hand and the help support and information she provides is excellent. You could base your entire holiday just touring the little villages and Tavernas that she gives you in her excellent information pack and you would not be disappointed. If Sarah says it is good, then trust me it is better than good ! The location and Villa is not for the feint hearted in terms of steps and hills, but not only is the effort spent well worth it but it works off all the time spent in the Tavernas. Local food and wine was unbelievable in terms of quality and value and eating out every day is a must ! Been back one day and booking next year already, just in case there wont be any availability, because the more people that eventually find out about this place, the less likelihood there will be any space for me ! Thinking about it, disregard all of the above, its awful, don't go, stay away as that might be the only way I will get back again next year ! Sarah - amazing job and such great vision and taste ! See you soon !

Comfortable and Unique, Good Location
This will be one of the your more unique vacation stays. The unit is very clean and comfortable, with three "cavern" bedrooms. You will sleep without the slightest distraction, so set your alarm! Our host Sarah was very available and responsive, and pre-stocked the 'frig with beer, wine, bottled water, and even some meat and cheese to get us started. Thoroughly enjoyed it!

Gorgeous cave house in a fairly quiet area. Had a great time here unwinding and enjoyed the local taverna Metaxi Mas. Excellent service and communication before and during stay. Do hire a car as it is the best way to get around. Fairly quiet for children but the time of year may have influenced that and pool was a bit too cold for us but in the summer/warmer months it must be amazing. All in all a really nice place to visit and lovely accommodation.

We were travelling with my parents and our toddler so we needed a home that could give us some room and would allow us to easily come in and out during the day for nap purposes. This property was perfect. Located in the center of the island, we were able to do anything we wanted and still have enough time to be back for a nap for the toddler. The beds were fairly comfortable. I will say that you have to walk uphill a bit to get to the location from the parking (and renting a car is a must at this location). May not be suitable for some elderly or handicapped people.

Unique experience in Santorini
We loved our time at the Cavern House Helios. Sarah and Mark made our stay very simple and relaxed, from providing food (and beer & wine) for our arrival and allowing early check-in, to arranging for an airport pickup and car rental for the week we stayed. We loved the terrace pool and patio, and spent a lot of time in the beautiful Santorini weather, looking over the hills and ocean. Further inside the house, three bedrooms offer a very unique cave experience...you will really have no idea what time it is, as daylight doesn't reach to these rooms. The plunge pool was really handy for a morning dip, or to cool off in the mid-day, after touring the island. We did a fair bit of cooking ourselves, and the villa has everything you will need for that, from pans and knives to bbq and matches. I would highly recommend having a car or quad for the duration of your stay, as they are reasonably priced and a great way to see the island. Parking is a short walk from the villa. We had an amazing time at Helios! Sarah was very quick to respond and Mark was always available to help with things like hiring a car and helping us reserve dinners and a sunset cruise! Wonderful stay in Santorini
We had a great time during our 10 days on Santorini. Communication with Sarah and subsequently with the daily manager of the property (Mark) was very good leading up to and during our stay. Sarah was very responsive to all inquiries and Mark was quickly able to answer any questions or issues that came up. Our transportation from the airport was arranged for us and went seamlessly and we were greeted by Mark who showed us around the house when we arrived. The fridge was stocked with some preliminary supplies including bread, butter, jam fruit, cheese and beer among other things which was a really nice touch. There were definitely a few quirks to the property such as the bathroom situation. One of the bathrooms is directly off the kitchen and the other bathroom which also has the washing machine is out the front door off the patio. The shared indoor space was limited to just the living room area which was a little tight for our group of six, but we managed to make it work. We liked the location of the property being away from the crowds of Fira and Oia but being able to get there and to other sites relatively quickly. We rented quads for part of the trip and a car for part of the trip which, in my opinion, is a must since there isn't much within walking distance. If you don't want to get a car there is a bus stop close by. There are two outstanding restaurants a short walk away. Metaxi Mas which is always packed and requires reservations (Sarah helped arrange ahead of time) was outstanding as expected, but Anemeloos, a little further down the hill was much easier to get into and we loved the staff and the food was phenomenal and wasn't as pricey...we went there 3 times during our stay. Overall a great stay. Thanks for your hospitality Sarah and Mark.

We stayed at the Cavern House for a week. It was a very easy process from booking to being picked up at the airport and to our departure. The house is very unique and we enjoyed our stay except for bumping our heads many times on a few of the lower doorways. The house is so interesting but it does get warm inside during the day. The 2 restaurants nearby are the best too. Our biggest issue was that we didn't realize how far we were from beaches (our fault) and had to rent a car. The walk to our car became very tiresome after a few days. Also, someone else rented the cavern house above us so we didn't have much privacy when sitting outside. Overall, it was a great experience and we enjoyed it.

The location is very good and Mark the caretaker did a great job checking us in and explaining everything. 2 great restaurants 5 minutes walk away and many more 15 minutes up the hill. Very central to everything on the island. The place came well stocked with fresh fruit some beer and even wine. We would stay again for sure.

Wonderfully quirky little gem!
We recently stayed at Helios Cavern house while visiting Santorini and were completely delighted with our stay. The house itself is very quirky, our kids were absolutely delighted to stay in the 'cave house'. Communication from the host and the villa manager was excellent. We were picked up at the airport which was really great as our flight arrived at midnight. Sara was there to greet us and we were provided with a fridge full of essentials! We hired a car through Sara and also booked a boat tour, everything was seamless. The location of the property was very scenic and convenient. Thank you for the lovely stay!

A week in Cavern House Helios was the highlight of our month long trip around Europe. The house was spacious with everything you could possibly want located in a quiet part of Santorini yet within close proximity to everything. Sarah was an exceptional communicator and replied promptly to all enquiries and made sure that our transfers and car hire were organised before hand. And Panos, the property manager, was an absolute legend! Not only did he deliver a fresh loaf of bread every morning, he was on hand to help organise massages,kayaking trips and a sunset cruise around Santorini. Nothing was too much trouble for him. He made our stay so much more enjoyable and really went out of his way to ensure that all our needs were met. If you are going to stay somewhere in Santorini, stay here.!! A place with unbelievable views and glorious sunrises, a perfect plunge pool and a wonderful restaurant within an easy walk. A memorable week which scores a 10 out of 10 for us.

Flawless Hosts, Quirky House
Owner Sarah and property manager Panos were impeccable. Sarah was terrific about communicating in the months leading up to our stay and thinking of everything we would need. When we arrived, the kitchen was stocked with water, wine, beer, fruit, and other provisions. During our stay Panos was omnipresent in the best sense of the word - nearby when we needed him but not hovering - and brought fresh bread every morning, recommended restaurants and activities, and helped to make reservations. The bottle of champagne on my wife's birthday was a thoughtful touch. We enjoyed the house's quiet location on the east side of the island, away from the tourist crush of Fira, and we greatly appreciated having two good restaurants - Metaxy Mas and Anemoloos - within a short walk. Although Metaxy Mas seems to be the more popular of the two, we felt that Anemoloos outperformed it, both in the quality of the food and the warmth of the reception, and we recommend it highly. Unfortunately, there are no other shops of any kind within walking distance, so plan on a rental car or regular taxi rides. The house was very tastefully decorated and slept our family of 4 comfortably. Although it nominally sleeps 6, it would be tight for 6 adults and possibly even for a larger family. Also, while the cave house concept was a novelty, we would choose an above-ground house in the future for several reasons. First, although the house is more than adequately lit (artificially), there is no substitute for natural sunlight and a view. Only the living room and one bathroom have windows, which look out onto the terrace but offer no view beyond that. (The pool, which has a fine view that is accurately represented in the photos, is one level above the house.) Second, while each bedroom is air conditioned, it is not possible to run the air conditioners unattended for long periods (such as while away from the house or sleeping), because the condensate does not drain to the outside but rather into containers in the rooms that would overflow. As a consequence, the humidity level in the house remains high. In addition, the living room lacks an air conditioner and became uncomfortably warm during the day. On balance, we would say that the property owner and manager are first-class, but the property itself has some important limitations that made it less than ideal for our tastes.

Excellent stay at Helios house. Very clean and comfortable . Had every amenity that we needed. Great
We were so happy with our stay at Helios house. We liked that is was away from town and quiet. The roof top terrace with pool was our favourite spot for reading and watching the sunrise. Panos delivered us fresh bread every morning and made excellent recommendations for dinners out and a sunset boat cruise. We loved every minute of our vacation. Bravo!

Secluded gem
The place is not in one of the major hotspots, but it’s not very far from all the main attractions, especially with a cheap car rental arranged by the host. The restaurant down the street (Metaxi mas) was the best place we dined at during our stay, we went there twice. As many have mentioned, the property manager Panos was very attentive. The rooms were beautiful and traditional cave style - very unique! The terrace had a small pool and lounge chairs, so that was a bonus. I highly recommend this place.

Loved Santorini Cavern House
We arrived late and Panos, the ultimate house manager, was waiting for us with groceries in the fridge to welcome us after a long journey from the US. We instantly felt welcome and at home. The house is lovely, the bedrooms dark to allow for a great sleep, but sunshine awaiting on the darling courtyard and pool terrace above with a beautiful sea view. Panos returned the next morning with fresh bread and more information to help us get a lay of the land. We realized having a car was a necessity but we quickly loved being away from the most crowded tourist areas and back to our little haven in Exo Gonia. We loved the little town Pyrgos which was nearby. We loved the hike from Fira to Oia. We loved the boat day trip Panos arranged for us. We loved eating at Metaxy Mas right nearby. We loved Panos! A perfect 6 night trip for a family of 4 and Sarah was wonderful to communicate with ahead of time. Highly recommend!!
