Scotland Holiday Packages
What do you have in mind for your getaway to Scotland? Perhaps you think of imposing castles, rolling emerald pastures or just having a pint with the friendly locals.
Our Scotland packages will introduce you to a world full of history, beauty and vibrant life that’s braw and barry (read: excellent).
Things to Do in Scotland
The Scottish Highlands are the stuff of legends. Several of the Harry Potter movies were filmed here. It’s also the setting of Shakespeare’s Macbeth, and it’s easy to see why. Scotland holidays beginning in the region’s capital, Inverness, and heading south will take you through some epic landscapes. Stop off at Loch Ness to learn the story behind the famous lake monster, or weave your way through pine forest in Cairngorms National Park as you spot rare animals like the red squirrel and Scottish wildcat—it’s adorable, but don’t get too close!
On your way south, get your royalty fix at Stirling Castle, which may have the most dramatic history of all the castles you’ll see on your Scotland holiday. Mary, Queen of Scots was crowned here in 1542, and the Great Hall held the biggest parties in the kingdom for centuries. Surrounded by cliffs on three sides and striking moats and walls on the fourth, the setting is dramatic as well! From Stirling, you can head east to Edinburgh or west to Glasgow, though both are worthy locations to find Scotland’s best shopping and entertainment.
Shopping, Dining & Nightlife
While Scotland’s two largest cities, Glasgow and Edinburgh, have excellent shopping, Edinburgh holidays will win over fashionistas who want to put a dent in their credit cards. You’ll feel like royalty on upscale Prince Street, home to flagship department stores and high-end designers—plus, you can shop with views of gorgeous Old Town and Edinburgh Castle. Just a few blocks away, hipsters and bohemians flock to the West End, the place to be for indie fashion and unique jewellery. And if you want to channel your inner Braveheart, you’ll “kilt” for the authentic outfits on the Royal Mile. With Wotif’s Edinburgh car hire options, you can easily carry all those shopping bags.
The nightlife in Edinburgh is as excellent as the shopping when it comes to pubs, dance clubs and partying ’til the sun comes up. If that’s your thing, head to Old Town or George Street. However, if you want to get cultured, Glasgow is your city. It’s home to the Scottish Ballet, the Scottish Opera and the King’s Theatre, among other refined options, and it has its own West End to rival Edinburgh. You can find many types of cuisine here, but no holiday in Scotland is complete without real-deal eats like black pudding and rumbledethumps, an amusing name for a pot pie of potatoes, cabbage and onion.
What’s Next?
If all this talk of kilts and pies is making you daydream, check out Wotif’s Scotland holiday deals to choose your destination (or three!), plan your itinerary and find the best airfare and accommodation around. You’ll be flitting off to Scotland before you can say "Lang may yer lum reek" (a friendly greeting!).
