As you pull up outside The Retreat you are straightaway in the presence of some of Lakeland’s finest scenery, as well as some distinctive Herdwick sheep that might be there to greet you too. The imposing steep slopes of The Screes are clearly visible as a backdrop to the open lush green slopes of this stunning valley.
This beautifully appointed ground floor apartment is every much a haven as the name suggests and is comfortably furnished to a very good standard. There is an open plan living and kitchen area, offering a pleasant décor, soft homely seating space for everyone and a kitchen well equipped for any meal preparation. Two bedrooms, a double and twin, have sumptuous beds for a good night’s sleep, whilst the walk-in shower will revitalise you ready for another day of adventures.
It is possible to leave the car and enjoy some fantastic walks in the area. Needless to say the walk along the shores of Wast Water will draw in the views of some of England’s greatest fells, including the highest, Scafell Pike. If an easier day is sought, then nearby Muncaster Castle offers stunning gardens and a fascinating history, along with hawk and owl displays and the occasional ghost too!
A short drive away and you will arrive at Cumbria’s hidden secret of excellent coastline, perfect for a stroll along some beautiful beaches, wildlife spotting and of course an ice cream. If it’s good food you are looking for, then the nearby village of Gosforth has some excellent places to eat, or a little bit closer, Nether Wasdale has two pubs to choose from and its own micro-brewery to sample some award-winning real ales. Beach 11 miles. Shop 5 miles, pub and restaurant 2½ miles.
