Faded Grandeur and Staffing Issues
Location wise the hotel is ideally situated in the centre of town and has its own car park. The car park is tight to navigate, however any vaguely competent driver will be able to cope with it. The hotel certainly is in need of some sprucing up, the decor and furniture (with the exception of the bed) look like they've been there since the 80s or 90s. There were shoddy repair jobs on the bath/shower with excessive sealant bunged on, and the laminate on the bathroom mirror frame had mostly peeled off revealing the fibreboard beneath. The bed seemed fairly new and was comfy enough though. My main issue was with the levels of staffing. When I arrived, there was no-one on reception. I eventually found a young lady working the bar who was covering reception for someone else who was on break. Unfortunately, as the bar was so busy, I ended up having to wait around 20 minutes until her colleague came back from his break. My overall feeling was that the stay was not worth what I paid for it

fab building loads of history Needs a lot of updating Excellent town position Car parking available but at small charge 3 floors but note there isn't a working lift it needs money spent to up date it And from what the staff say the owner doesn't want to fork out any money , same with the thread bare carpets Held to gether with masking tape ! Staff are excellent couldnt fault them at all. We had breakfast Charge of £10 which was reasonable. If your room is facing the main road front of the building be prepared for noise all night long cars & people Rooms are comfy

Rooms were spacious, comfy and clean. Furniture was old with signs of wear but comfy and adequate - wouldnt expect new or modern in such an old & quaint hotel. The ensuite bathroom was ok - fit for purpose but really in need of updating. We didnt have breakfast as we'd made arrangements to meet friends but when we walked past the restaurant it looked lovely. Parking was difficult - very few spaces. Had to park in overflow car park where some are reserved for local residents but the signage does not make this clear. I unwittingly parked in a residents space and had a curt note left on my car - dont blame them but really was not intentional. Would definately stay here again.

One night stay.
Hotel very tired looking as so many hotels are these days. Charged for 2 days parking even though we only stayed one night. I did phone to check that we could park the car early but was not told that I would be charged extra. Reception staff didn't seem to know what they were doing. Think they had a trainee. Car park very congested, very thankful we only have a small car. Wouldn't like to have attempted to park a family car there.

Staff were really good. Very nice breakfast. The hotel is old so obviously the floors are creaky but they are very uneven in the bedrooms. Room could do with a facelift. Very dated. Nothing new flooring and wallpaper wouldn’t fix
