This is a 19th century residence, currently under its 4th renovation, with incredible charm and authentic Cycladic simplicity. Views are breathtaking, the light is magic, you are close to downtown (3 min) but quiet and safely away from late evening tourist noises. It catches the northern summer breeze and the air is crystal clean and makes you sleep well. It sleeps 6 but we recommend it for 5. Only one bathroom, and a second open-air shower in the garden yard.
It is a house lived by a large family with happy memories of long summers playing in the garden and eating, talking or reading in the beautiful yard with loved ones. It is old but recently and constantly refurbished. It still bears the spaciousness and the atmosphere of its time with its wooden double doors and stone paved floors; it is unique thanks to its large garden, the views of villages and sea away from traffic noise, and the rare aesthetic balance you get from 19th century untouched architecture.
Don't expect unnecessary luxury: You will not find a swimming pool in the garden or air conditioning inside. The walls are wisely thick they keep the house naturally cool, and the garden invites you to eat figs, grapes and on the right months, even fresh vegetables, and yes, there is only one bathroom outside the ground floor level, but with all the basic comforts plus a view to the beautiful landscape while you shower. A second shower is open-air in the garden.
The first floor contains two bedrooms and a large sitting room with a balcony and the main entrance. The ground floor contains one bedroom, the bathroom, the kitchen and a pantry room adjacent to the kitchen.
FIRST FLOOR
Sitting room: Very tall ceilings give grandeur to this traditional, bright and stately room. Has a long desk, 2 large sofas, a bookcase, several armchairs, and a little balcony that overlooks the terrace. An additional side terrace leads to the main entrance of the house, which opens onto the sitting room.
Upstairs bedroom 1, first floor: Has an antique double brass bed, and a hand painted closet, and two windows overlooking the view. This bedroom opens onto the sitting room.
Upstairs bedroom 2, first floor: This bedroom has an elevated single loft bed (1.20m X 2.50m), and there is room and facility for a bed for a young child. This bedroom opens onto the sitting room.
GROUND FLOOR
Kitchen: “French farmhouse” in style, the kitchen is beautifully decorated with antique pottery from the island. Has an electric stove, oven, a wooden table that sits comfortably 6, together with a small sofa. The kitchen has one door that opens onto the terrace, and one that opens onto an enclosed back yard and the bathroom.
Bedroom, Ground Floor: Has one double bed, a desk, and is adjacent to the kitchen. Is on the same level as the bathroom and overlooks the terrace.
Pantry: Refrigerator, food closet, and storage room opens with double doors onto the kitchen, and leads to the interior staircase of the house. It opens onto the enclosed back yard and the bathroom.
Bathroom: Recently refurbished, the bathroom has a shower, WC, and a sink overlooking the view. Opens onto the enclosed back yard.
THE OUTDOOR AREAS:
Enclosed Back Yard/ Ground Floor entrance: This is a shaded area where you can sit during hot and windy days. It is the most commonly used entrance for the ground floor; has a washing machine closet, plenty of space to store beach accessories, and a hanging line.
Upstairs Terrace: This private terrace is just outside the main entrance to the house.
Large Terrace: In the summer, this terrace is the center of the house. It has two levels, and three very distinct sitting areas. A large stone-built sofa and many stone ledges frame the terrace. Two stone tables, one sitting 8-10 and a smaller one sitting 4-6 are protected from direct sunlight by the large pine tree that hangs over the house. The view from the terrace looks toward the main village and the sea, and over a quiet terraced valley.
Garden: Fig trees and olive trees grow in this large garden, together with an enormous pine tree that provides thick shade for the terrace and is really fun and easy to climb. This year, we plan to grow summer vegetables so guests can have their own tomatoes, cucumbers and zucchini, along many herbs like basil, oregano and spearmint.
The view from the garden is panoramic and there is a bella-vista bench at the far end of it.
