Even though Sumiyoshi Taisha is a Shinto shrine, it will leave you feeling Zen. The serene space features a high-arched bridge over calm waters and architecture that dates back to at least the 8th century. Strolling the grounds will take about an hour, after which you can head to hotels in South Osaka or make your way to the city centre to shop, eat or catch a show.

There’s lots of entertainment—and massive illuminated billboards—for you to find in Dotonbori.
