The Cottage is set in the southernmost part of the Slade Valley, overlooking the sea, on the Gower Peninsula. The terrace of the Cottage has spectacular sea views, and the small house is suitable for up to 4 people who appreciate the special coastal setting. Gower is an area of “Outstanding Natural Beauty”, with sandy beaches and cliffs, prehistoric sites, and many castles and churches.
From the Cottage it is half a mile down a footpath, followed by a scramble across rocks, to reach “The Sands”. Here there is an unspoilt sandy beach, suitable for swimming and surfing, with rockpools to explore. From the beach there are coastal paths of a few miles to the villages of Oxwich or Port Eynon. Here there are sandy beaches with carparks, pubs, fish & chips, and restaurants: The Beach House in Oxwich having a Michelin star.
The Cottage is a flat-roofed annex at the side of Westwinds, separated from the main house by a narrow passage. The Cottage can be rented with Westwinds (which sleeps 8) or separately: since the Cottage has its own driveway, parking area, and outside terrace. On entering West Winds there are 2 lions on the gateposts, and after about 20 yards there is a turning to the left up a steep drive to the Cottage, where there is parking..
The Accomodation: Sleeps 2 to 4
The Cottage has recently been renovated throughout and has simple furnishings. It offers basic but charming accommodation, with a decent-sized double bedroom, and a small second bedroom having just room for 2 single beds. The Cottage is ideal for 2 adults with children, but could accommodate a maximum of 4 adults.
Please note that there is a steep ladder-style open wooden staircase to the upstairs bedrooms and bathroom. This ladder is unsuitable for small children, guests with impaired mobility and elderly people. The bathroom has an electric shower above the bath, and there is an immersion heater for hot water.
Please note, we do NOT provide any towels, so please don't forget to bring them for
the beach and bathroom!
The small kitchen has a dishwasher and fridge-freezer but no washing machine nor dryer. The lounge-dining area has a wood-burning stove, table and chairs, a large sofa and a television. The Cottage does not have central heating, but soon warms up from the wood-burning stove and electric storage heaters.
The Cottage has its own terrace (patio-lawn), that is reached through sliding-folding doors from the lounge, and from the terrace there is a fine view to the south across the garden of Westwinds to the sea.
