A great property for our large family on our annual wine weekend getaway. Enjoyed the location and amenities. The visit from a flock of free-range chickens in the yard was an unexpected treat. Highly recommend. Thank you!

Girls Trip
My friends and I enjoyed our stay at High Lake Hideaway. The house was nice and it was clean. The lake is beautiful and it was quiet when we were there. The refrigerator could stand to be replaced. The refrigerator ran very cold. Even when we turned it up as high as we could, some of our liquids began to freeze. The outside decks and stairs need to be painted. An umbrella on the deck would be nice as cover for the morning sun. We enjoyed the kayaks, paddle boat and water trampoline. When we were there in August, the ducks were there too which does affect the small beach area.

Great Family Getaway
A lot of items to use on the lake were available. We had children from 18 - 4 years old and they all enjoyed this vacation spot. Close to Traverse City was also a plus.

You get what you pay for
We rented this home as a two family early summer get away feeling the space and amenities would be great for 4 adults and 6 children. For the most part that statement was true, but the house is in need of upkeep. There were multiple light bulbs out, a loose stair on the steps going upstairs, multiple cracked lower quality Adirondack chairs, a leaky old dishwasher, an underwhelming number of forks and usable spatulas, a deck in need of painting, a grill missing a drip tray along with an unusual sign in each bathroom about fishing out whatever goes down the toilets. We reached out to the property manager (in all fairness toward the end of the stay as none of these things were emergent we did not call the emergency number) and did not hear back till after we left. Many of these maintenance issues should’ve been noticed and addressed by a regular walk through or via the cleaning crew and hopefully/seemingly were addressed after the fact. At the end of the day we had a nice time at high lake hideaway, but this is not a perfect or above average rental. My wife’s comment is where I’ll end “you get what you pay for.” Next time we will look to spend a little more…

Perfect Family Getaway!
We couldn't have asked for an easier or more perfect stay for our three night visit. We were three families, 6 adults and 5 kids, with plenty of room to rest, relax, and enjoy everything the property had to offer. The kids enjoyed the trampoline and paddle boat and floor to themselves to hang out. We all loved meals and coffee and games on the deck. A great, well appointed home with everything you need. Close to town, and worth a walk to Peegeos tavern (try the charbroiled wings!) Thanks for a great visit. Would stay again!

Great vacation property
4 families stayed here and we had such a lovely time. The peacefulness of the property was great, and lots of places to sit and chat. We used the fire pit almost every night! Being right on the water gave so many options for not getting out. Plenty of activities with the trampoline, kayaks, and boats. Bike rentals close by, and lots of trails. Downtown and shops for Traverse City is about a 15 min drive. Owner met us on sight to make sure all was well. Thank you so much for the stay, and a wonderful place for a family reunion!

Would rent it again!
The house was clean and ready when promised. My husband and I were there with our three adult children, their spouses, and an infant granddaughter. Kurt was communicative upon arrival and checked in with us via email during our stay. The trampoline was awesome! This was a PERFECT house for us. Five bedrooms, three and a half baths, HUGE table for dinner. It comfortably seats 12. The fire pit was great, and again with ample seating. We would definitely stay there again, without hesitation!

Out family of 10 stayed a wonderful week. The location was great close to town and the airport but far enough away to be out of the traffic. The kitchen is well stocked and the beds are comfortable. Check-in was seamless. The grandchildren loved the time on the water and the wonderful water trampoline.

Perfect Location for a Holiday Getaway
We stayed in this home just after Christmas. This home is the perfect location to visit so many local attractions. We stayed comfortably with 2 other families with kids ages ranging from 6-17. We hit area attractions such as Mt. Holiday, Shuss Mountain, Hop Lot and a couple of wineries. We got some snowfall during our stay and the kids all went out and sled down the driveway of the home (we did bring some of our own sleds but also found additional sleds in the garage). At the end of the day we all enjoyed playing games in the living area around the natural fireplace. I would definitely stay here again and can only imagine how much fun this home is in the summer!

We had the best time on our extended family vacation. The place was great and was exactly what we were expecting. Kurt was wonderful. Responded quickly to all of my messages and was extremely helpful when our boat rental fell thru. Plenty to do right on the property and easy day trips to town, Sleeping Bear Dune and the wineries.

house needs inspection
On the day of arrival the owner did not respond to my calls or text messages in order to provide a code for the property front door. We waited about 45 minutes until he reached out to us. We had issues entering the home and called him for assistance, after which he generously offered to come assist us with the door. We managed to open the door prior to his arrival, however after he arrived he immediately acted incredibly rude. He acted very arrogant towards us, saying that renting his house must “cost our whole fortune”. When we were inside (prior to his arrival), we noticed the smell of cigarettes coming from the basement, as well as the fact that there was no smoke detector present - we mentioned this to him and he dismissed our concerns. Additionally, the basement had no heat during the duration of our stay. After he left we started unpacking in the kitchen, preparing to cook dinner. We noticed a strong smell in the kitchen. After opening some cabinets we found two dead mice under the sink. A cleaner was eventually sent to remove the mice. We started the dishwasher to clean all the plates and utensils (as it was clear the mice had been near or around them). As soon as we started the dishwasher, however, we noticed a leak. After that we hand washed all dishes and utensils for the duration of our stay. The patio doors (living room) were rotten and had a leak. There was rain all night and there was a large puddle of water inside the living room that we cleaned up after waking up. There was absolutely no water pressure present on the property - if one sink was on then no showers or other sinks could be used. The faucet in the guest bathroom was damaged - usable but needs replaced. Overall there was a horrid lack of communication and there are plentiful items at this property that need addressed.
