Uniquely charming but could use improvements
My partner and I stayed here for a weekend getaway. We really enjoyed our weekend overall, but I think there's room for improvement here. The cottage is really cute and unique, it really seems like someone built this with their own hands in the 60s/70s and it has that charm. Rustic is a good way to describe it and we were expecting that. However, some 50 years later, you do have to make some improvements. The cottage is pretty musty and did lead to some breathing issues. The air purifier in the bedroom helped but didn't manage it all. I think a big problem is the carpet which has clearly been there for decades. It needs to be ripped out, I didn't feel comfortable walking barefoot on it. I get that this may be costly but so be it. Also most of the windows don't open, so it's hard to circulate fresh air throughout the place. Also, there were some smaller things such as the shower curtains being pretty disgusting, adding to the mildewy-ness (easily replaceable by $1.50 ones from Dollarama) and there being no dish soap and mildewy dish sponges. We also had a question before we got there and the host was very late to respond. I'm sorry to give a less than stellar feedback. This is overall a gorgeous and unique property and the abundant nature around it was amazing. We loved spending time outside on the deck and in the covered veranda. The kitchen was mostly adequately stocked for a rented cottage. I think with some improvements, like the ones I mentioned, this could be amazing.

Private 50 acres is misleading
I was most interested in this booking due to the claim that we would be on a private 50 acres. The cabin is located down a short driveway off the main road. The cabin is sandwiched between two neighbors you can see from the main door. When you walk out the back, there is a ravine to the left, and a marshy wetland to the right with no paths or access any further. There is also no information indicating where the property begins and ends, but many no trespassing signs in the area so casual investigating would be frowned upon. We were actually confined to less than 1 acre. I had sent a private message to the owner 1 week prior to our trip inquiring about certain details and allowances which went unanswered entirely. The cabin itself was exactly as described.

Awestruck by this unique home!
This property and home was unbelievable! The pictures do not do it it justice, I've been telling all my friends and family about this and showing my photos of the unique home. The octagon shape with the fireplace as the centre of the main room is beautiful. When we first arrived it felt like an adventure to learn the home. Everything you need is there, so not to worry if you forget something. Communication with Tim was great. 10/10 recommend, we will be back! (next with our ATVs/ORVs as the trails aren't too far away)

Long weekend
We loved the property and area. It was dated inside and some parts do need work. However it was everything we wanted and we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. The dog loved having the freedom to roam and explore. We enjoyed the peace and quiet and the log fire. Would definitely go again.

Great weekend with our dog
Spent 3 nights relaxing at this cabin and exploring the trails and forest with our dog. Didn't see another soul, which was perfect for us. Cabin was bigger than it seemed in photos and had everything we needed: towels, linens, blankets, salt & pepper, all the kitchen basics. Somehow I always forget the cooking oil, but the store is only a 15 min drive away. We'd definitely spend more time here in the future!

The house was exactly as described in the listing. It was perfect for what we were looking for: rustic (and quite beautiful log home), lots of space in the surrounding property, and secluded. I plan on coming again in the near future.

THE MOST MAGICAL EXPERIENCE
If I could summarize my experience at this cabin in one word, it would be magical. Exactly as described in the listing, this property had all the amenities I needed. I loved all the windows - especially the large ones in the living room that look onto the private forest. No need for curtains! There are endless books, board games and cards to keep everyone in your family occupied. Staying with my three large dogs was perfection. I covered the couches with blankets and tied their long leads to a tree in the yard so they had space to meander. The whole space was incredibly welcoming and the full kitchen was amazing for making my own meals. I found an Instant Pot and am already planning meals for the next time I'm here! During the day, the dogs and I headed out into the forest for some amazing hikes. The views of the trees and creek, the space for the dogs to run and being able to forge my own path is exactly what my soul needed. On the rack near the front door I found some extra jackets and boots should I have needed extra layers. Overall, Tim (the owner) was a pleasure to communicate with. He made the sure that the space was clean and although it has been mentioned in other reviews of a musty smell, I didn't notice anything of the sort. A normal cabin smell! This rustic, one of a kind log cabin is a perfect getaway for those who love the outdoors and campfires. Being able to bring my dogs with me has made this a space that I will be coming back to year after year :)

Don’t stay here! We paid and couldn’t even stay
My spouse and I were looking for a nice Autumn romantic weekend away - we were happy to find this listing which claimed privacy and a fireplace! The moment we walked through the door we could smell a musty mouldy smell. This was throughout the entire place, not just in the basement as one earlier review claimed. There were coats and boots around, like someone lives there. Plus OLD disgusting carpet. It is NOT private as the title states. You can see this property shares a driveway with another home, visible from this one. They have attempted to make a second driveway but it’s a dirt path which isn't fit for a car to drive down. There were no window coverings on the many and large living room windows - at night it felt like anyone could be seeing everything we’re doing. We had driven 3 hours and arrived at dark so decided to try and stay…not to mention one of the ways in had a bridge out which the owner didn’t warn us of, so that added an extra 20+ min to the drive. And the so called driveway is a dirt path, I was very concerned if it rained my car would get stuck. We ended up having to leave the next day due to sensitivity to the mustiness and mold. I’m currently fighting for a refund (still, a month later) because of all of this. This property was advertised and priced as premium for the remote area it’s in, but we were severely disappointed. Our pricey, romantic getaway was ruined. We had taken a day off work for this. Absolutely devastated.

Cute vintage vibe
We loved this little cabin, including all of the cute vintage details. It was very clean and cozy, and sleeping arrangements were suitable for a family of 5. Be prepared for a mildew smell in the two basement rooms, but most of us didn’t mind and we slept peacefully. Cooking in the kitchen was great, but be prepared to bring most of your spices with you, since there isn’t much of a stock on hand. Overall super happy with our stay!

Peace and quiet
Interesting building, and the property was just enough wilderness, with trees and wildflowers, but also some mowed areas. Not too far from the town of Tweed, where we bought farm fresh corn, had a good breakfast at the bowling alley (!). Very quiet at all times of day and night, with a nice screened in porch off the main bedroom. We loved it. Only knock on the place, not enough cutlery, and more screened windows for fresh air would have been good. Definitely recommend for anyone looking for a quiet home base, with lots of little towns in the area worth exploring. Pizza in Stirling, thrift shop, second hand bookstore and butter tarts in Madoc, cheese in Ivanhoe. Beach in town. Fantastic

Nice, quiet getaway in the woods. Everything was pretty much as advertized. The only thing I would recommend would be to replace the old BBQ with a newer propane unit. Other than that our stay was very relaxing. Potter Settlement Winery just down the road is WELL worth a visit. The hosts are lovely people with great information and fabulous (little known) Canadian History stories !! Ken L. (July 2,3&4)
