I did not realize exactly how old the hotel was when I booked but I was not disappointed at all. There is so much charm in this place and the rooms have updated furniture so it did not feel like an old rickety hotel. It was very clean aside from a few hairs in the bathroom, and the beds were comfy. Very tall and a little firm. Big space. Check in and check out were a breeze. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The restaurant downstairs was very good. My only complaint is that from our main floor bathroom (only from the bathroom) you could hear voices from the pub downstairs. It did not resonate into the room though so we slept well.

I got a single bedroom, not too big but cozy n quiet. I’m just next to the lobby/reception area but there wasn’t any noise at night. The bed is comfortable. Love the hotel. 😊😎🏨

A friend and I were in town for a concert - overall, it’s a fine place to stay. Very welcoming and vintage charm, however cleanliness was only so so (some of the towels in particular weren’t very clean). Also no elevators. Other than that, a good stay for a good price.

The location was just great. The hotel is of an older vintage, but kept in great condition. There is a restaurant and amazing old school pub on site. I made some friends and played eight ball for the first time in years. Had a great time.

Would Book It Again!
Charming hotel, great location, great neighborhood. Our room was a little tight, but we expected that. There are no elevators; again, not a problem for us, but hauling luggage up 3 or 4 flights could be for some. Two little issues: 1) Our pillows were flat; we got better ones the second night, but there weren't great either, 2) The restaurant downstairs (different owners apparently) was a disappointment and we thought the staff was rude. They seemed to be annoyed by the hotel customers.

Terrific Hotel
Front desk manager was outstanding; he made sure we got the best room possible. Our room was terrific and we were very comfortable. We love the hotel--it is charming and authentic and you get a real sense of history in the neighborhood. We ate in the Pub and had very good service and good food. The location of the hotel was ideal for access to the ferry to Port Angeles the morning we checked out. We hope we'll be lucky enough to stay at James Bay Inn again

We stayed here because it is walkable to family we were visiting and there is a restaurant on site. My Mom is 93 years old and isn’t great at long distances or stairs. We were advised there is one flight of stairs to get up to enter the hotel and then our room would be on same Level as the lobby. That was definitely the case and we appreciate their efforts for us. However, we realized when we got settled there are no safety grab bars in the bathroom so Mom didn’t feel safe stepping into the bathtub for a Shower. I asked the front desk if they had a stool or Plastic chair we could use and they said they would check. This was on Monday. They finally found us one late on Wednesday. They had purchased a shower chair from a local drugstore but it was too big and had to go in the tub sideways so Mom had nothing to rest her back on. However I appreciate the effort and she was happy to finally have a shower ! The staff were all friendly and knew our names, and ready to help with anything. Would definitely stay here again. Food in the cafe was reasonably priced and delicious. Staff was inconsistent- a couple waitstaff were Amazing, a couple were pretty indifferent and slow to serve or check on us. It’s walking distance to shops, waterfront and downtown, even for Mom with her walker.
