I am offering a fair and honest review of our experience at this property.
Our stay was not what we were hoping for or expecting. Upon arrival, you can clearly see that the property needs some TLC and hands on, basic maintenance. Honestly, it looks abandoned since ALL of the “yard” is grossly overgrown and even prohibits getting out of your car without brush rubbing against the door. Quite frankly, it looks, and is, horrible. Not even remotely groomed in any way, shape or form. I am well aware that most often times, beach homes do not have typical lawns but this mess is just neglect.
There is no debate regarding the beautiful sunsets and the cleanliness of MOST of the home. The ( indoor) shower floor was loaded with sand and all around the shower base along the walls there was black mold. Yeah, I know it can get sandy at a beach house, but I don’t think there’s any good excuse for a gritty, moldy shower. I’m assuming the previous renter paid cleaning fee like I did but obviously somebody dropped the ball. Fact of the matter is mold doesn’t happen overnight. A previous review from years ago (yes, years) mentioned a “cracked patio door”. If that reviewer was talking about one of the master bedroom’s glass doors leading out to the balcony, surprise! It’s still there, cracked from top to bottom.
The most negative thing we encountered was upon entrance to the house. We were greeted with a surveillance camera in the downstairs foyer, only to go upstairs and find 3 more cameras with audio input/output in the living area. We thought we were in the Big Brother house. We called VRBO re: the cameras and were told cameras inside the property are prohibited. We were uncomfortable knowing we could be seen and heard apparently at will. Here’s the kicker: I went back and saw a review from May 2014 citing the cameras indoors. The owner response was that their presence was disclosed in the rental agreement. I did not receive, see, sign, or get informed of any cameras. Why this has been allowed to continue, I do not know. If there are so many problems with vandalism, robberies, etc in the off season that it makes indoor cameras necessary AT THAT TIME, why are they all allowed to be there during the height of the summer when the house is occupied? This is a complete and total invasion of privacy. Period. 100% creepy no matter what explanation may be offered. There can be no acceptable reason for 4 cameras inside the home. Creepy, and unacceptable.
