I don't like to write bad reviews. I understand things happen beyond the host's control, but I must warn fellow travelers about this place and very unprofessional, immature host. First, the ad is misleading. It says "gorgeous" "renovated" "parking included" "sleeping for 4 guests". All of this is false. It started when we walked up to the entrance of this basement unit. It was obvious that the entryway and stairs down to the unit hadn't been maintained or cleaned in a while. Leaves were piled up along with trash and dirt. While overall the neighborhood is good, this entryway was drab, scary and dangerous. It looked like a slum. The entry door badly needs painting inside and out as it was dirty and damaged. Not a good 1st impression. It did not get better as we entered into the basement unit. We had 4 guests and the unit was advertised for 4; however, there was only 1 bed. Other than the 1 bed, there was a very small, narrow cot that was stained and dirty. There was also a couch that was similar. It looked like it had food that had been spilled on it and not cleaned up or maybe baby spit. We are not neat freaks, but this was gross. Venturing further into the basement we noticed it was unfinished looking with lots of wires all around. The entire place badly needed a fresh coat of paint and repairs to the walls as there were many holes. In the bedroom, there was a large hole in the floor and a huge collection of wires left out in the open. It looked maybe like a bad dorm room. None of the furniture matched. It was very cheap, damaged and dirty.
In the Check In instructions, the host Bob indicated that he really wanted a 5 star review and to contact him if there were any problems so he could make it right. So, I reached out to the host and was met with total unprofessionalism. The host never offered to resolve anything. Most vacation rental hosts have been accommodating as they want to make any issues right. Most hosts would have had someone clean that yucky, dirty dangerous entryway and address any other issues as best they could (maybe offer an air mattress?) but this host wasn't good about responding and then when he did respond, he refused to resolve anything. He even threatened me that if I left a bad review that he would give me a bad review, even though he had not 1 complaint about me. He put this threat in the Vrbo message string so it's plain &obvious. His curious response left me wondering why he was in this business. Beware!
