Island village escape
What a wonderful experience. Starts with a beautiful open boat ride with your host Bill and Paula from the big island to your homestay. The water is crystal clear. Keep your eyes open for fish and other marine life. Your first view of your cabin is right when the boat comes in to drop you off. Be prepared that you might get a little wet as you wade in from the boat. The cabin is very rustic but spacious and clean. There is all the bedding you need and mosquito nets over most the beds. The shower and toilet is just out the back door in seperate stalls with a light . Bill and Paula very clearly explain meal times, protocol in the 2 villages that are very walkable, what excursion are available and include you in the various village activities. They were great in answering all our questions. Meals were very generous in serving size and much of the food served was harvested from their land or the sea. You eat what they eat ,a very authentic meal experience .You take your meals up the hill to their house out on a open deck. View is beautiful. We enjoyed both the swim with mantas and night fishing. Its shallow right in front of the cabin but you can still snorkle. It is fun to walk through the village sitting out on the mats with the local people. All are so friendly and enjoyable to hear their stories. We had the priviledge of being able to attend one of their celebrations. Hospitality was great. Souvenirs are available which support locals. Hard to leave new friends.

Best Vacation Experience!
This was literally the best vacation I have ever had! Being apart of Bill and Paula's family for a week was an exceptional experience! Bill had all transportation set for us. It’s an extra fee to have him do it but well worth it! Yes the accommodations are very basic but we were very comfortable. Foam mattresses, a private toilet, sink and shower (which is a gravity fed single pipe). The showers are cold water only but it feels good with Fiji always being warm. Whatever excursions you pick, DO NOT miss snorkeling with the sharks! I’m typically very timid about those things but it’s very safe and a once in a lifetime experience! The water is SO clear, it’s truly amazing! We also really enjoyed the sunset fishing. Paula fed us very well! She is a great cook and you will not be hungry! Expect local cuisine like fish, sausages, fruit, ramen, potatoes, eggs and bread. My boys play rugby here in the states and their most favorite part was joining the village kids each night at the school to play rugby in the evenings! Donations to their local team and school are always welcome and encouraged. Please note that the women and men of the village dress modestly so it would be respectful and you will feel more comfortable if you bring shorts that go to the knees and t-shirts with sleeves. Bill and Paula really go so far out of their way to make you feel at home and comfortable. We felt so blessed to meet them and their kids. Shout out to Jim, our fellow rugby fan! Go Fiji Go! Much love!

Thanks Polla and Sarah for their warm hospitality. The house is basic but that is a life experience with local village people which is what i like. It is not a holiday resort. Bill also welcomed me to their family lunch gathering on Sunday. The location is nice and relaxed but i like walked to the sandbar for swimming where is about 15 to 20mins walk.

Bill and Paula, their family and community welcomed my family with generosity, kindness and hard work to make our trip memorable. We felt safe and were treated with respect. Our rooms were clean and comfortable. The food was absolutely amazing! Paula and her daughter Sarah made everything from scratch each day. We dined on traditional foods either farmed from their gardens or gathered from the sea. Bill and his son Jim took us on our amazing adventures, like snorkeling the open waters with sharks and manta rays, taking us to a private island to snorkel the surrounding reef with Sarah preparing us a delicious picnic of local fruits and fish. They made every effort to make the experiences memorable for us! We were extremely fortunate to be invited to a kava ceremony with the elders and we invited to help with a traditional lovo ceremony of roasting meats underground on the beach. Bill and Paula taught us about local weaving. Recommendations: Go with an open mind. You will be off grid with no air conditioning, but living in a traditional home. Bring one more box of water than you think you’ll need. We ran out the last two days and had to ask Paula to boil water for us. Bring kava to share with the village elders as a thank you to joining their village. Buy a little chocolate for their granddaughter. It is a rarity and she loves it. The village is always in need of donated sheets, towels, kitchen towels, underwear (both adult and children) and kitchen cutlery.

Wonderful Wayasewa!
The perfect 'real Fiji' experience off the grid. Not for everyone as there's no airconditioning, running hot water or pools but that's the charm and attraction here. Bill and Paula looked after us wonderfully. Our two small boys were played with and looked after by other local children, the villages were very friendly. Paula also arranged a surprise birthday cake for my oldest son! No other tourists spotted, no-one trying to sell you things or get you to drink kava and no shops. Perfect spot. AAA+

Great place to get away from the resorts
Thank you to Bill, Paula, Sarah and Jim for looking after us so well! We had a great 4 night stay and the whole family was attentive and responsive to our needs. My mum found the steps up to the eating area to be a bit much, and they kindly carried the table down and every meal for the rest of the stay, so we we are able to eat next to the beach and avoid the climb. Jim took us across to snorkel in the boat, and across to the other village so that we were able to see some of the rest of the island. We were also welcomed to their church and community lunch. The set-up for the lower hut is basic but mosquito nets supplied and the beds were comfortable, and it opens almost right onto the beach so we could hear the waves. I would recommend bringing some backup water to save the family having to boil large quantities daily. Food was plentiful and a delicious opportunity to try cassava, breadfruit and taro leaves, as well as more familiar fruits and foods, including daily fresh baking for breakfast. I would definitely recommend the family's homestay for an authentic village experience!

Fijian Village Life
Bill and Paula are kind and caring hosts who open a room in their home or a bunk house on their property, for guest to stay in. Wayesewa Island is remote meaning your stay is with the villagers that reside there. You can expect to greeted with many 'Bula's' as you walk the beach or through the villages. You will have basic needs met such a food and shelter and be treated to a truly Fijian homestay experience. All the beds are covered with mosquito netting and the rooms have good ventilation for island breezes to flow through. Paula is a really good cook providing 3 meals a day. For clean water, bring a filter or your own water, and bring snacks if you have certain comfort foods you enjoy. Power is limited and there is no wifi so relaxing Fijian style is what this experience is all about. There are showers and flush toilets fed by water from a nearby spring and is prudent to have shower shoes for your protection. Due to weather, we did not get to take part in many excursions but Bill is always ready to take guests to special spots nearby and on the island. Note, traveling to the island and on excursions will entail going in an open boat on open water. If you enjoy snorkeling there is are a few great spots off various beach areas and the locals can guide you to their whereabouts. If you want to learn to weave you just have to head to the weaving hut or ask a local who can teach you. Make no mistake, this is an amazing village homestay and not a resort experience.

Relaxing, off grid family time
Myself, husband and children ages 12, 9 and 7 stayed for 6 nights. The beachfront accommodation was spacious and had enough room for the five of us to sleep and hang out. Visiting in January meant the temps and humidity were very high. There was 1 fan in the room and it was a lifesaver. The outdoor shower was refreshing. Bill took us on 3 excursions and they were excellent. Paula was a great cook and we never left the table hungry. She even made a cake for my son’s 12th birthday! This is a true Fijian village experience. You are isolated on the island with not a ton to do. We brought card games, and spent lots of family time. The sand bridge at low tide was spectacular and we made our way down the beach to it most days at low tide. Bring tons of water, we brought two cases and it was just enough. There is no wifi and no cell signal unless you hike up a hill near by for 10 min. It was a relaxing, life changing week for us and our kids learned a lot about how some Fijian kids live. I would 100% recommend Bill and Paula’s home stay if you are up for down time and an unplugged holiday.

Amazing
My girlfriend and I, in our elder years, had an amazingly 9 day stay on the island. Everything was explained to us in advance and we knew we would have very basic facilities. We were treated as royalty with nothing too much trouble for our hosts and the villiagers. Food was plentiful, happy smiling faces plentiful also. Our interaction with the children and the community was flawless. Their singing was mesmerising. As long as you are prepared for basic but clean conditions then this is definitely a 5 star stay. Thank you Paula, Bill and the community.

A wonderfully unique experience
Bill and Polla were wonderful hosts. They welcomed us into their family, fed us lovely food and invited us into the village (where we were made to feel equally welcome). They helped us in every way they could to have a very memorable stay. After two months of travelling we needed a few days to unwind and we got that on Wayasewa - a stunning island that had us looking around more than once and pinching ourselves. Accommodation is simple but comfortable (but be prepared for an outdoor toilet and shower and resident creepy-crawlies). The house is literally on the beach and it was incredible to fall asleep and wake up to the sound of the waves. The beach itself is a treasure trove of rock pools and marine life, but sadly full of litter that washes in from further out to sea - such a shame that a beautiful location is marred in this way. There are a number of excursions on offer for an additional fee but we didn’t do any of these as we have two young kids. Thank you Bill and Polla for a truly unique and beautiful experience for our whole family - we’ll always remember your kindness and hospitality.

Fijian adventure
We had a wonderful week staying with Bill, Polla, Api, Nani, Sarah, Moses, Dam, Omni and Jim. It truly was a cultural immersion, where we lived like a Fijian villager, but we ate like Fijian kings - thanks to the womens' amazing cooking skills with produce sourced mainly from their backyard and the ocean. The family's local knowledge made our daily adventure trips to several of Fiji's natural treasures even more amazing. There is good coral snorkelling off the beach that is a shell's throw from our accomodation, as well as off the beach behind the school. Trips to Castaway Island, the limestone cave, snorkling with sharks, the walk up the mountain and others were excellent. Visits to the church service and school were delightful. We loved the beating of the traditional drum early in the morning and evening calling families to pray. Some tips if you plan to visit from overseas: - buy a Vodafone sim (Digicel is useless on the island) - bring your own snorkels to ensure a perfect fit - bring hats with good straps under the chin to ensure they stay on during the boat rides - consider bringing stationary items for the local school - bring cards and books for rest times - come with a flexible attitude as you wont have several of your western comforts. We highly recommend this stay for those who are adventurous and outdoor inclined.

Lovely little piece of paradise
If you want 5 star then this place isn't for you. There is just a very basic cold shower but flushing toilet. Bill and Paula were very clear with the pictures about the accommodation. Basic beds with mosquito nets. We put two mattresses on two beds to make it more comfortable. Communication before and during our stay was excellent. Bill and Paula make sure you are as comfortable as possible and ensure you have everything you need to arrive safely at your next destination. Bill even arranged a place to have a shower after shark snorkelling before we continued back to Nadi. The family provide 3 home cooked meals using produce from the island. Thank you for catering to my soy and dairy allergies. This place offers many opportunities to experience the village life of island fiji while being surrounded by beautiful scenery and excursions for extra cost - picnics, limestone caves, snorkelling with sharks and manta in beautiful clear waters. The shark snorkelling was a definite highlight! We loved the snorkelling at far end of beach off sand bar - clear waters with beautiful coral and fish to see. We would love to return to do some more of the excursions when time, money, energy and weather allows. We were invited to attend a wedding on the island and immerse ourselves in the culture. Thank you so much for having us Bill and Paula. Your hospitality and warm, caring nature really is so wonderful to be around. Thank you for welcoming us to your home and village.

We had a wonderful time! Our host Polla was so caring and helpful and made us feel a part of village life. Her cooking was fantastic! The bungalow by the beach was basic but had everything we needed and was an excellent location. We really got to experience true Fiji. Visiting the school and joining in the rugby were great, and attending church and the amazing singing was a highlight. We also enjoyed snorkelling, a sunset hike and many relaxing hours by the beach. Polla was incredibly busy but still made us feel so welcome. We would highly recommend this home stay!

Not to be missed!
Bill and Polla were the perfect hosts. It was all we hoped for and more...a sort of rustic resort. Not for those who need all the luxuries of home. The village community members were so welcoming and accepting of us, an almost-elderly couple who still enjoy having adventures and experiencing ways of life different from our own. We marveled at so many aspects of this homestay, it's impossible to describe the beauty of the people and the stunning setting. We attended Sunday church service, visited the primary school and participated in the 4th birthday party of darling granddaughter Iva. Village life at its best. You will be glad if you share from your abundance: bring used cotton sheets, towels and simple clothing for any age and gender-they will be much appreciated. We brought school supplies (coloured pencils, markers, fun shaped scissors, erasers, story books, small pads of fill-in activity booklets) and presented to the teachers and they were very happy to meet us and grateful for the gifts. The children are charming and happy to meet visitors and practice their English. Chocolate bars for those you meet along the way. Any and all first-aid supplies (bandages, anti-bacterial ointment, over-the-counter pain relief and NSAIDs, compression (Ace) bandages) toothbrushes and paste. DON'T MISS snorkeling with sharks and manta rays! Magical. A rare opportunity to live an entirely different way. Bring books, cards and an open mind. You will be so glad you did!

Really disappointing
Know what you’re getting into. This is fully off the grid. Fully. Nothing to do. Unless ur willing to pay $$$ for all the excursions and extras; the accommodations were not good. Bed was super hard /sleeping on a board with a 4” foam mattress topper on it. Not memory foam. Shower was a cement hole in the wall. So was the toilet. Shower was just a pipe with cold water. Ants everywhere. Bugs constantly coming in the room which was shared like a hostel with zero privacy. Bug screens covered the beds. It felt so isolating being on this island with no way to get off unless you pay a big fee ($300 one way!!) and wait for the owner to take you on a 1+ hr boat ride back to the mainland. No board games or cards or anything and the WiFi doesn’t work. The boat ride was rough. Choppy and no sun protection. Hard painful bench to sit on. Not fun for over 15 mins. I didn’t like feeling trapped with no way to get off the tiny island. No WiFi is fine for a while just didn’t like feeling so alone and isolated. The other guests there said the same things before I said them. It was not a pleasant stay.

Most Beautiful Homestay in Fiji!
We are from the USA and wanted to experience a village homestay on one of Fiji’s little islands. Bill, Paula, and their son Tim were very welcoming and inviting and offered the most beautiful experience for my husband and I and our 4 children. Paula made us the most wonderful sit down meals 3 times a day and Bill and Tim took us on many unforgettable excursions! They took us snorkeling with the reef sharks, to the popular limestone caves, sunset fishing, and a beautiful picnic at the famous Blue Lagoon beaches. My son and husband loved playing Rugby with all of the local boys on our island. My daughters and I loved shelling and seeing beautiful sunsets and sunrises from our private beach. Our cute little beach house was clean and steps from the ocean and slept all 6 of us comfortably and had a private bathroom and shower. Bill communicated all details of our stay very well before we arrived and transported us to and from the main Fiji island port of Lautoka. We stayed 3 nights and everything was organized very well and we felt very safe and all the locals are very friendly. I highly recommend this experience!

A fantastic experience
We had a brilliant stay with Bill and Paula. It was a rare opportunity to stay in an island community and connect with local people, as well as spend some time living on Fiji time in a beautiful location. One couple had a bungalow on the beach, the other a room in the main house. We ate on a deck with the most amazing views or watched the sunset from the beach. Getting to know Bill and Paula was such a blessing and we also enjoyed visiting the school and church (amazing singing!), spending time playing with the village children and great snorkelling - straight off the beach and also the snorkelling with reef shark experience. Accommodation is basic and please dont expect high level conviences to be available, but food was plentiful and tasty. Be prepared for 1.5 to 2 hour transfers by long boat, dependent on conditions. Sunscreen and spray jacket advisable for the trip. Vinaka Bill and Paula ❤

Snorkeling with the sharks/Oceanview Garden Home Stay
Bula ( Hello )! I cannot begin to express how absolutely enchanting and exceptional my stay was. My deepest gratitude goes out to Mr. Bill and Ms. Polla for their remarkable hospitality and generosity. The splendor of their community and culture is indescribable. We spent ten days on Wayasewa Island indulging in various activities, such as snorkeling alongside sharks, visiting the village school, meeting the chief of the island, swimming in the stunning Sawa-i-Lau cave, picnicking at Castaway Island, and indulging in sunset fishing. However, the most unforgettable moment was when we celebrated Easter Sunday with the community, attending church service and admiring the delightful choir. It was an experience that exceeded my expectations and was nothing like my typical day-to-day lifestyle. I wholeheartedly recommend staying with Mr. Bill and Ms. Polla if you desire to explore the island as a whole and encounter something new and extraordinary. They are compassionate and thoughtful hosts who will undoubtedly make your stay a cherished one. I especially want to thank Ms. Polla for her wonderful authentic Fijian dishes!! I cannot begin to express how much my family and I enjoyed them especially her fish in coconut milk and curry dishes!! As a gesture of appreciation, please support them in any way possible, and if feasible, accommodate to their needs. They are such hardworking and honest people that are trying to improve the quality of their lives and of those in the community. I express my heartfelt appreciation to Mr. Bill and Ms. Polla, who have such an extraordinary family, and I hope to visit them again soon. We miss you all very very much. Moce ( Goodbye ).

Bill was a great host who organised everything. Paula made all the food for our stay. Please note to take all $ for payment of accommodation, fishing & snorkel g trips. We didn’t, due to not knowing what to expect & if there were safes etc. Unfortunately it meant Bill had to wait for ages for our bank to transfer the balance. I felt very bad for this. The accommodation is very basic, but a good reality check to what really matters in life. A true Fijian village experience. Thanks to Bill’s family for an enjoyable stay.

Beautiful experience but…
Bill and Paula are wonderful people and Wayasewa has so much to offer. My children loved playing with the children in the village, Swimming with sharks was a real highlight, as was catching some big fish. I loved having someone who cooked my meals, it was a treat! However, I found it very difficult to sleep at night because it was so hot and there was no fans. We struggled to get enough water and I wish I had have known how tricky it was to get fresh drinking water because I would have brought a few cases of water bottles with me. The rubbish on the beach was very distressing and really took away from the beach experience. It would be great if there was a really good sanitation program for the small Islands because it was very uncomfortable, walking through and swimming amongst rubbish. And finally it was very expensive. The accommodation was very cheap, but overall the experience cost our family a lot more than we were expecting. A lot more! If I had have known the final cost before I booked. I probably would not have booked to be honest. Having said that it was definitely an experience will remember and one we are all very glad we had. I would stay with Bill and Paula again, but just be more mentally, physically and financially prepared next time.

Wonderful off-grid village homestay
Bill and Paula are such kind and gracious hosts.
