Despite the weather it was a great holiday
The coldest, complete with almost continuous rain, ( and for good measure a bit of snow), could not prevent us have a splendid time here in the lovely Hampshire countryside. Just a few hundred yards from the station, and railway passes just 100 yards from the cottage, which is actually an end terrace house. This would be a superb location in the (warmer) spring and summer with the picturesque and historic Itchen Navigation - plenty of wildlife and great walking. The house has designated parking, although we managed very well with the nearby train service. The lounge is compact, but has space for 2 sofas, smart television, electric heating. The kitchen is galley style with oven (not shown in the pictures!) hobs, washing machine, dishwater fridge / freezer and plenty of cutlery / crockery. At the far end of the kitchen is an attractive conservatory with views of the waterway. Upstairs there is a great bathroom, the master bedroom is extremely comfortable, whilst the second bedroom has small single - only suitable for younger children. Great base to explore Winchester, Winchester, Basingstoke, Bishop's Waltham and Marwell Zoo. Certainly a place to relax.

Beautiful location
Very pleasant stay but I do think a welcome folder with all information re appliances and troubleshooting should be In the property. Not all guests are from the UK where symbols are used to operate appliances and the symbols were a mystery to us. Claire explained how to operate the hob but unless she had, we wouldn’t have been able to operate it. Dishwasher was obvious but we decided not to use the washer or dryer because it was a mystery! Main bedroom comfortable but the small bedroom was too cramped and would be better served with one comfortable single bed. The location was great and we enjoyed our stay. Loads to see in the area and convenient to grocery stores and good restaurants. Highly recommend Rick Stein’s in Winchester.

I liked it
If you’re bothered by traffic noise, this may not be for you as it is right by the railway line and close to the M3, however as I’m not bothered, I can say that it’s fabulously located in some lovely countryside, with the Itchen way walk literally alongside the property. The nearest shop is in Twyford about 20 mins walk, so stock up, or check out the The Bridge’ pub a short stroll away. Which is chef and Brewer pub with a reasonably priced menu and friendly staff.

Riverside retreat
As lovely as the description, this cottage is quiet and peaceful. This may be less so in summer being adjacent to the Itchen Navigation footpath which is a bonus for walkers. Our small problem was dealt with easily.

Great location, very close to Shawford train station.
Great location, by the river Itchen a very short walk to Shawford village with a Chef and Brewer pub/gastro resturant and train station. Great footpath and walking trail to either Winchester or Southampton. A great place to explore Winchester, with a beautiful Cathedral. Summer time would be a great place to stay by the river. The cottage is nice and cozy, very comfortable, lovely sitting in the conservatory watching the world go by and wildlife, lovely long garden, be great for a BBQ for summer alas, we stayed over Christmas a bit cool for the garden, but great all the same, my only concern is it needs a sort of a lock on the main bathroom door, to stop others walking in on you haha, a shock for my mother inlaw haha, also i asked if the owner Hilary if she could be kind enough to put up a small Christmas tree and decs, very obliging and it was great. Christmas meal was at the Bridge Inn a great location and easy to find, meal was a gastro Christmas meal, lovely food staff very attentive and was good of them to be there on Christmas day. A short drive to Winchester for a day out on Boxing day. All in all a great stay at Riverside cottage, Shawford, definitely will be back for a summer stay, depending on availability.

Pretty cottage by river in picturesque Hampshire
A delightful cottage adjacent to a river walk & a lovely pub just a 5 minute walk along the river in the village. The accommodation was spacious and clean with extremely comfy beds and a large bathroom with both bath/shower & a walk-in corner shower (perfect for families) Would love to return again to explore more of the area.

pleasant stay
Lovely end of terrace next to river with a decent pub a short walk away. Just a couple of things that could improve it; blackout blinds/curtains in bedrooms as was very light. Shaver point in bathroom Cut tree outside back door as difficult to enjoy garden. Other than that a nice place to stay

Pretty, private cottage
Very comfortably renovated cottage with a history - there are great photos from the past on the walls! Lovely sunlounge and garden, and if the weather's good you can walk along the river into the centre of Winchester. There is noise from trains passing by, on the London Southampton line, but it's not excessive and is shared by everyone else in the area.
