About this property

Bold Coast Camp Minutes from Acadia's Schoodic Peninsula

A new tent this year and the friends that helped set this year’s up made the bell tent sit beautifully on
its platform. I am right in town, walking distance to shops and restaurants, with Littlefield Gallery to the
left and The Bakery to the right of the property, and Acadia National Park, Schoodic Section, is your next
right hand turn.

Lots of additions, privacy fenced area for shower and wash station, new towels, and Prospect Harbor
soaps. I have a Legacy Tower with fresh water to fill solar bladders for warm showers and to top up
Berkey water system cylinder for clean drinking water. There is a portable toilet, clean and maintained
weekly for guests only.

The camp has a Solo Smokeless stove and a Bali propane fire with lounge chairs ready to recline and
watch the stars. I have lots of kindling and small wood to start a bed of coals, if you want a long evening
burn, wood is sold in front of Winter Harbor Provisions, also Backman Wood has hard and soft and its to
the right of my driveway, two buildings down, outside stand with a cash bucket.

There is a small Coleman stove and a small kettle, coffee cups, with a few bags of tea and coffee to get
you started, or bring your favorites. Small propane canisters can be purchased locally. The Bakery is a
stone’s throw away, with fresh hot coffee and Patrick’s delicious pastries and breads and …….so much
more.

There is a cooler, picnic basket, wine/water glasses, bread board, knife, cork screw, plates, napkins, a
good start to lunch on the rocks or tables next to the harbor, at Frazer Point.

Inside the Bell tent, I have left a binder, lots of area information, maps of local treks, and “What’s” going
on around town, Emergency contacts, library, bank, food stores, restaurants, festivals, potters, artists,
farmers market, organic farms, and so on. Some games, playing cards and a few books. The linens and
blankets are lovely, cozy, and clean.

I am popping up the ‘old’ tent leaving its side rolled up for an extra shaded space or out of the rain
space, with more comfy seating inside and out of it.

We are a 5 minute drive to the entrance of the Schoodic Loop of Acadia NP. A free, seasonal bus (search Island Explorer bus for schedule) picks up nearby and carries you about town and into the national park (entrance is less than a mile away). We are a 45 minute drive to Mount Desert Island/Bar Harbor. There is also a seasonal ferry within walking distance (about 5 minute walk) that takes you across Frenchman's Bay to Bar Harbor in 45 minutes. (May need a reservation for the ferry) It's a beautiful boat ride on a sunny day and you can often see porpoise and a variety of sea birds. The ferry generally runs into September. In Bar Harbor, you can hop on a free bus that will take you to Acadia and around town.

Please let me welcome you, make you comfortable in a tent, while enjoying the simplicity of the earth,
cool breeze, salty fog, stars above, bright morning sun, birds about and geese above.

Perfect stay
Margaret is a wonderful host and prepared the tent for anything one would need. The charging stations, robes, games, and kindling were especially helpful and unexpected. The bed as others have said was extremely comfortable and there were plenty of soft warm blankets for a nice sleep. We hope to be back one day!

Beautiful, cozy, and comfy yurt. Everything we needed for camping. The location was quiet and out off the hustle and bustle of bar harbor. The host was very helpful, kind, and respected of our space.

Glorious Glamping!
My 8 year old son and I had a magnificent 2 night stay here. The location of Winter Harbour was perfect for our daily treks and coming 'home' to the tent was awesome. Our host remembered all the great details: games, picnic basket, wine opener, solo stove, kindling and wood as well as starter paper. We had rain one night and we were so dry and cozy. the bedding is so comfortable! plenty of lighting as you need it but flashlights and lamps were plentiful. We did hang the shower bag one day to rinse off and it worked great. Overall, this was a different type of accommodation and i'm so glad we did it. I felt safe in this location. I mean.. except for the rooster chasing my son. (Kidding! it was one of the highlights! We had so many laughs about it!). I have recommended to others and would stay here again.

Camp site is cute and provides almost anything you could possibly want (could use some cookware). Bed was really comfortable, and the chorus of birds in the morning was lovely. Also there’s a friendly neighbor chicken that stops by to visit on occasion.

Let me start by saying Margaret was a kind, lovely lady who clearly put an enormous amount of care, time and effort into making a beautiful tent and camping area. The tent was lovely, spacious and clean, and contained many thoughtful amenities. There are wood burning and gas firepits, a sink area and a private shower area with plenty of water bags. The port o potty was very clean and smelled nice. The inside of the tent was lovely and we had robes, flashlights, games, lights, and the bed was very soft and comfortable. The issues we had were our expectations of it being near water and private, but it's basically a lovely campsite in someones back yard area and close to a busy road. We could mostly hear only traffic noise. The neighbors had a rooster that crowed very early in the am as well. It is only about 1/4 mile from one section of Acadia, but we didn't realize the main part of Acadia and Bar Harbor are 1 hours drive away. After spending the day in Acadia and having dinner in Bar Harbor, we didnt have the energy to drive back to the site for our 2nd night as it was very late so we found a cheap motel for the night close to Bar Harbor. If you don't mind being in someones back yard with no view or sound of the ocean, then it's a beautifully done campsite and I would highly recommend.

Great place but make sure of the weather.
The property is as described private but definitely not secluded. A suggestion would be definitely make sure to check the weather. We areived and it rained most of the weeks leading up to our stay and everything was damp as you know things in a tent will be. No ones fault but we only stayed the first night due to that. The owner was awesome and although the bed was damp ot was super comfy!

Magical Yurt! Everything was so fresh and clean. All the joy of camping - bird song, sound of rain on the roof, cool breezes - but with the comfort of a bedroom - comfy mattress, warm blankets, dry clothes. Amenities were terrific, just as advertised, with the addition of a delightful wood burning stove. Plan to come again. Very romantic!! Margaret was very responsive to questions, a delightful host.

Beautiful, serene setting and a perfect experience!
This was a wonderful experience in every way! The owner clearly thought of everything a traveler might need, from the comfortable bed, small mobile charging station, lanterns, flashlights, drinking water, robes, a station for washing hands, a dedicated parking spot, a fire pit and the cleanest porta-potty I've ever seen. We spent two nights in the tent with our small children while we explored the beauty of Acadia National Park and the kids couldn't wait to get back and spend more time at the camp site each day! To add a little character to all of this perfection, a nearby rooster crowed each morning to ensure that our visit felt sufficiently authentic and rustic, and instead of housekeeping knocking at the door, we had daily visits from the friendliest cat in the Northeast, who just happened to share the same colors as our deceased and much loved family cat, Sammy. And finally, just when we were ready to concede that caffeine addictions cannot be indulged when camping, we realized that the next house over was...a coffee shop and bakery. This was an experience that our family will cherish for the rest of our lives and we couldn't recommend Bold Coast Camp more highly!

Misleading on Privacy
Preface that I and my partner have stayed in “rustic” conditions before; lack of running water/electricity, compost toilet, hand drawn showers, etc, but the property was a bit more public than pictures and listing describes in our opinion. We left the first night we arrived as we didn’t feel we were nearly as private or secluded as the description led us to believe. Good: The yurt itself was very nicely setup and furnished; it looks like the pictures and all amenities are as described. We really liked it to be honest and would have loved to stay there. Host was quick to message with further details and an update to amenities that wasn't in the listing (nice!) Bad: There was one major issue with this property being the privacy of it and the misleading description of it. Though it may be on private property, it’s easily viewable from two homes on the land immediately adjacent even with the 2 separated privacy fences placed nearby. I’m talking less than 100 feet to two private homes (although one may technically be a business). Both of these houses could easily see into the space from their second story windows if not from the first story. Look up the address in google street view before committing. It initially places you by brush but head west to find the mailbox, the yurt is viewable from the road. Overall the general setup of the yurt and amenities is lovely and could be a romantic vacation even; but we didn’t want to spend our time in Acadia camping in a back yard.

Just Wonderful!
Everything about this listing is accurate- it's the perfect balance of camping and modern comfort amenities! The bakery next door makes delicious food and coffee, and the property managers are so easy to work with. We were only there two nights and it was pretty chilly so we never did try the shower, but it all looked clean and easy to use! 10/10 would recommend and come back again! Thank you!

A perfect stay
Our stay during our Acadia vacation was just what we hoped for. The host had thought of everything we might need in the tent, the location was quiet, private and 5 min from the quiet part of Acadia. It’s about an hour to bar harbor but we were so glad to be off the beaten path in our cozy tent. Did i mention the bed was so comfy and the bakery actoss the street sooo delicious. Highly recommend

Wonderful glamping trip!
As long as you come into this thinking of it as camping just steps away from a National Park, you will have a great stay! The shower depends on sunshine to warm the water and it was cloudy all week when we were there (but do bring shower shoes - the floor mats are quite painful in the shower tent!), but the bed is comfortable, there are many lanterns and flashlights provided as well as many solar-powered path lights outside, several blankets are available if it gets chilly (although it did get quite warm in the afternoon with not much to be done to cool it down), the portable toilet is clean and you really can’t beat the “camp’s” location. Jerry the neighborhood rooster needs to have his alarm clock reset (3:00 a.m., Jerry? Seriously?) but he added much entertainment with his friendly antics. Margaret is a lovely host and Natalie is very responsive to messages. We really loved our stay!

Comfortable stay and beautiful location
My wife and I loved our stay in Winter Harbor. The tent was well-appointed, extremely comfortable, and cozy. We adored the town, especially the bakery just steps from our door. Guests should be aware it is still very much a tent, with no power or running water. Shower water is warmed by the sun (or very cold if there is no sun). As long as you are aware of these factors, this is a fantastic stay close to Acadia in a charming small town.

Lovely little camp
This property is exceptionally clean with every amenity as listed; very nicely kept and extra thoughtful touches. My husband is 6’4” and had plenty of room inside the tent. It is in a residential area so there are neighbors, but the lay of the land and clever arrangement provide plenty of privacy. We did not hear noise from the houses/neighbors, although there is an enthusiastic rooster nearby! The bed is comfortable with plenty of blankets for cool nights. Excellent location for access to the Schoodic Peninsula. Be sure to check local restaurant hours - there are several nearby but only one was open while we were there.

Relaxing, cozy tent with an incredibly comfy bed, walking distance to Chase's restaurant and the ferry to Bar Harbor, and a friendly host and resident cat!. Comfy and relaxing
Margaret was a fantastic hostess. The bed was reallllly soft and comfy and the atmosphere was relaxing. I didn’t think it was possible to see so many stats at night! It was unreal. Waking up to birds chirping was lovely. The neighbors a couple doors down have a rooster that can get pet chatty, but he’s nice and really loves butt scratches so he was quickly forgiven. This place is also next door to a small bakery where they serve the best chai latte ever and handmade breakfast goodies. We would def stay here again.
