Book your Yangon holiday
Holidays To Yangon
You’ve spent enough time looking at a map of Southeast Asia and wondering what it’d be like to go there.
Well, it’s time to stop wondering and start wandering. You know where a good place to start is? You guessed it, Myanmar—specifically Yangon, the onetime capital formerly known as Rangoon. Explore the nooks and crannies of the People’s Park, or gaze up at the gold-plated beauty of the Shwedagon Paya. Whatever you end up doing, look into our unbeatable Yangon, Myanmar deals and start practicing your Burmese.
Things to Do in Yangon
When you’re on Yangon, Myanmar holidays, you must visit the pagodas. Why? Because it’s the thing to do here. The most sacred of them all is the Shwedagon Paya, where ancient relics of four buddhas are stored. One of these relics happen to be several strands of hair from the Guatama Buddha. Fittingly, the building itself is covered in gold and jewels, and it’s sure to add some shine to your holiday.
After exploring the Shwedagon, make your way to the National Museum of Myanmar for a look into the past. The museum’s collections contain a vast array of relics from all over Myanmar. The Epigraphy and Calligraphy Centre houses exhibits about the development of Burmese script. You literally get to witness how a language took shape during your Yangon holiday. Cool!
Shopping, Dining & Nightlife
When the shopping bug bites you (and believe us, it will), there’s plenty of malls for you to shell out cash in. Get a set of wheels by picking up one of Wotif’s Yangon car rental options and head to Dagon Township. Here you’ll find the Taw Win Centre, one of the newest and largest shopping centres in the city. Many of the major stores you’d find at a mall back home have locations here, so don’t worry about not finding the right hair product.
You won’t have to worry about finding good places to eat during your getaway. The city is absolutely loaded with food spots! Look for Yangon, Myanmar packages that have hotels in the Kyauktada Township if you really want to indulge in fine dining. Samosa salad and fried chapatti are must-haves. But if you want to broaden your culinary horizons, head to one of the outer townships and sample something like pe bohk. That’s dried fermented bean cakes that you can grill or fry.
The people of Myanmar are very friendly and like you, they enjoy letting their hair down at night. If you’re looking to do some bar-hopping, head to 19th Street in Chinatown, where you’ll probably meet fellow wandering travellers. Who are we kidding? EDM is taking over the world, so you might as well follow the masses to the nightclubs around Tein Gyi Zay Plaza. You might need new eardrums the next morning, though!
