About the Area

Nestled just 4 miles inside the southern entrance of Yosemite National Park is the charming and historic town of Wawona. Located at the base of Chilnualna Falls (the second highest vertical drop waterfall in Yosemite), and home to the principal trailheads into the southern Yosemite wilderness, Wawona is also the closest town to the Mariposa Grove of Giant Sequoias.
Wawona has the feel of a small town but is bustling with activity! Over 160 residents, including Yosemite Park employees, live in Wawona and can be seen gathering at the town's community center, playing a pickup game of basketball at the elementary school, jogging on one of the many picturesque trails, or simply walking their dogs and baby strollers through the winding residential streets. The historic Wawona Swinging Bridge boasts the best natural water slide in the Park! The history village is filled with docents, stagecoach rides, horseback rides, and barn dances in the summer season and the Wawona Meadow Loop offers year round riparian meadow wildlife viewing.
Wawona was known to the local Native American Miwok in their language as Pallachun (a good place to stay). It is located entirely within Yosemite National Park (it preceded the founding of the park as a national recreation area) and is located on the South fork of the wild and scenic Merced River, on the main highway (State Route 41) from Fresno to Yosemite Valley.
Galen Clark, who helped gain preservation legislation for Mariposa Grove and what later became part of Yosemite National Park, occupied the Wawona area in 1855 and established a tourist rest and modest ranch which he later sold and made into a hotel and resort property (the Wawona Hotel). The Wawona post office was established in 1878 and was originally called Clark's Station.
The Redwoods In Yosemite has over 120 vacation rental homes and is proud to say that all of them are located in Wawona. All are within walking distance of everything that Wawona has to offer and every one of them is surrounded by the majesty of Yosemite National Park!

Yosemite Family Vacation
The convenience of the house being inside Yosemite NP and not having to deal with park reservations was wonderful! The communication with the property management was very good and check in/out process was very easy. The house was very nice and the setting beautiful. There was lots of nearby things to do, a couple groceries, as well as easy access to all areas of the park.

Great choice for a group/family
This home is well maintained, clean, and has a great layout. So comfy to gather around the table, in the living room or outside (deck is amazing)! We could all be together or retreat to another area for quiet time. The kitchen is equipped for cooking and serving anything. We really appreciated being in the park so we didn’t have to deal with traffic each day. The Redwoods staff were wonderful to work with. They made our stay very enjoyable. Thank you for sharing your home with our family!

Fun, cold time
The property felt comfy and secluded, even on a road with many other cabins. The only main critique was that the heating system seemed to have difficulty reaching the bedrooms when the doors were closed. We brought our infant son but didn't feel comfortable closing the door at night since the rooms seemed so cold. The temperature got down to the low 40s outside at nighttime during our stay. The fireplace was wonderful and kept the central cabin very warm and cozy. Just the bedrooms felt somewhat cold. But things were clean, comfortable and fairly easy to find. We also felt the heating of the stove and oven were a bit difficult. We cooked everyday but the temperature on the appliances couldn't get very hot. It took a very long time to cook, bake and even boil water. I'm not sure if things were affected by the altitude or put on safety settings but meals took a very, very long time to prepare. But it was amazing to stay inside the park and not worry about the gate entry line in the morning. The market/office staff were very kind and friendly. My friends were all very interested in doing an experience like this again.

This homey cabin has a great layout, perfect location, and a really comfy feel. We enjoyed the deck by the little brook and so did the buck. We watched each other. I would gladly stay here again.

Great Place for a family to stay while exploring Yosemite
Our family enjoyed our stay at this cabin. It is rustic but has a good kitchen and 2 nice bathrooms to give both a cabin feel and the comforts of home. The living space was great for our multi-generational group and the location is spaced away from other properties to allow for privacy. We were able to access all areas of the park and had a great stay. The internet was spotty but that is to be expected on a National Park area. We would recommend this cabin for family groups.

Not a great choice for summer
Super cute and cozy cabin. However it was impossible to cool down no matter how many windows we opened or fans we had running. Wowana was in the low 90s during our stay, it always felt cooler outside of the house. The location of the home is nice because it’s away from most other residences and very quiet. We loved the open living room and rustic style of the cabin. We may try this house again during the spring or fall, but never again during the summer months.

Great location!
We really enjoyed our stay at the property in Wawona! It was awesome to be inside the park already and not have to wait in a line each day to enter. It was about an hour scenic drive to both the Valley and Glacier Point, but it gave us time to make plans for the day! Near the house we had a great swimming spot, a playground at the school, and we were located near a gas station and two markets. The markets were a little on the pricey side, so I would recommend doing your large grocery shopping before entering the park. The deck was awesome for our morning yoga and we also saw a ton of wildlife from the property! Overall, great stay!

Fantastic location if you any to be inside the gates
Great location. Size of the cabin and sleeping arrangements fit our family’s needs perfectly (6 adults and 5 small children). Gas grill was fantastic. The cleanliness of the cabin was questionable. There were food left in the freezer from previous visitors upon our arrival. There were also some toiletry trash left in a trash bin in the bedroom. A lot of debris and crumbs under the couch cushions (we always check those kinds of places and nooks and crannies with young children). Several set mouse traps was a bit of a surprise; one snapped on me not knowing it was set under the sink cabinet when I was looking for cleaning supplies. The house didn’t have any cleaning supplies so bring your own paper towels and all purpose cleaner. Overall we still had a great time and we would stay here again and we would be better prepared knowing what’s there and what’s not.

Nature and relax from big city life
We had a great time @yosemite and really enjoyed the calmness, the great nature and the very well equipped house! The mega crowded spots are bit away so a 45-60min drive is needed but also in the closer distance we discovered many interesting spots House is great and well maintained thru the local agency
