Your journey begins with a scenic paddle towards Rangitoto Island, as the sun sets behind the horizon. Once on the island, you'll pull your kayak ashore at Rangitoto Wharf and take a short walk to the summit, where you’ll be rewarded with one of Auckland’s most breathtaking sunset views.

Enjoy a relaxed BBQ dinner while taking in the stunning scenery of the Hauraki Gulf. Afterwards, your guide will lead you on a peaceful paddle back to Auckland under the stars, with the city lights twinkling in the distance.

This guided tour is perfect for both first-time kayakers and those with more experience. Instruction is provided, ensuring an enjoyable and safe experience. Please note, participants must be physically fit and able to hike 2.5 km to the summit.

Fantastic trip! Kayaking across, hiking up Rangitoto, running down (optional!), then jumping in for a swim before dinner was great fun. The best was kayaking at night on the way back with some waves. Quite an experience!

We never got to go on the tour due to some participants not understanding that it was a sunset tour. we kayaked a short bit. never got to go to Rangitoto. sun was high in the sky and bright when tour was completed. My time was wasted while the guides attempted to keep people entertained by playing silly games with the oars. If the tour has been canceled due to lack of reading the description of said tour and changing their mind then don't charge us and waste hours of our day getting there, safety demonstration, and games on the beach. The guides were in touch with Nick the operator of Auckland Sea Kayak and he did not seem to have an interest in our ruined tour. Eventually, a small refund equal to my Uber fare was refunded. What?? I enquired about actually going on the tour another time with individuals that were wanting to participate and was told that they were probably booked up. To sum up: no sunset, no night kayaking, no Rangitoto island. Would not recommend.

An extremely wonderful (and humbling) experience! This was my first time and if you actively listen to instructions you will not have any problems. Be sure to also ASK QUESTIONS should you have any and don’t be shy. Would truly recommend this tour to anyone. Our tour guide Kobey was very knowledgeable and helpful throughout the journey and made sure our safety was always a priority! If you’re interested and questioning whether or not to partake in this experience, DO IT! You won’t regret it. With our tour the winds were very high so we unfortunately didn’t get to make it to Rangitoto however Kobey brought us to two different spots which were nothing shy of beauty. Bring 2-3 SETS of spare clothing depending upon the weather and there is a place to keep it for anyone wondering as well! If you bring a hat ensure it’s tightly kept on your head as the winds do get fairly high. I hope this was helpful for anyone reading and thank you Auckland Sea Kayaks!

Really enjoyed this activity. Our guide Chloe was a really good guide who was very personable and so much knowledge to tell us about the island along the hike! She organised us all well and ensured the trip ran smoothly. Doing the evening activity was great as you arrive on the island after the last ferry has gone so it’s most likely just the tour group about. The view and sunset from the island was amazing. As expected it’s quite a work out both kayak and hike so be prepared for that!

Great adventure, good food, great instruction and support throughout activity. Instructions for meeting point could be more specific - eg at boat launch or beside brick restroom building .
