We learned so much from Dwayne about the history and architecture of the Capitol and Library of Congress. And had some good laughs, too.

We were late to our meeting point because, as we are from Arizona, we weren’t familiar with the addresses in DC. We didn’t realize that there are two First streets, one on the east side of the Capitol and one on the West side. And Maryland Ave is also on both sides of the Capitol. So we called the touring company and they guided us to the meeting point. We arrived about 20 minutes late and we met a man from the tour guide company. I honestly thought that they had changed the meeting point so I asked the man why they had changed the meeting point. The man just looked at me with an upset look and said that they didn’t change the meeting point almost in a scolding tone. He then accused me of being the only one who didn’t get to the meeting point on time. He further said I should be thanking him in a condescending tone for waiting for me. How could I thank someone who was treating me in a haughty and disdainful way? That man shouldn’t be working as a tour guide since he clearly lacks the hospitality and the abilities to treat lost travelers. He has no customer service etiquette. Our tour guide Dwayne on the other hand was very nice and knowledgeable as he guided us in the tour. It was a nice and interesting tour. If it wasn’t for that first rude man I would give it 4 stars.

Be advised, this is not a skip the line tour. You will stand in line with general public. And once inside, they ( the general public) can get the same tour of the capital for free. Also the Library of Congress was closed for a private event. Viator offered no refund for that half of the trip.

The experience was okay. Although the hired guide was fine, I felt like we were handed off to the capital guide almost immediately. Aside from access to the official capital tour, it is hard to know what I paid for.
