Overview

In 1903, the Tourist Association of Victoria launched the Tally-Ho to offer guided city tours and help attract visitors and settlers, sparking a tradition that has delighted guests for over 120 years. What makes Tally-Ho truly unique is that it’s not just a tour, but a living piece of Victoria’s history. With its iconic horse-drawn carriages and personal, locally-inspired storytelling, it offers a rare opportunity to experience the city in a way that honours its past while creating lasting memories.

Our beloved Tally-Ho horses, now considered “at risk” of becoming endangered, are cherished symbols of Victoria, adored by locals and visitors alike. On each tour, our professional and fun-loving guides share fascinating history, local folklore, and exclusive insights, providing a personalised experience rather than just canned information. Join us for this one-of-a-kind adventure that combines history, heritage, and the true spirit of Victoria while preserving a piece of its iconic past.

Next, travel along the stunning Salish Sea waterfront, taking in spectacular views of the Olympic Mountains and reaching Mile Zero of the Trans-Canada Highway, the starting point of the world’s second-longest highway. Your tour concludes in the historic James Bay area, with beautifully preserved Victorian homes and captivating stories of the area’s rich history, including iconic Canadian artist, Emily Carr. The carriage ride and the young lady that directed the horse ( Jerry) was great! We did run into a booking time delay. My tickes where for 1pm and booth had 1:15, not a huge problem but we had another commitment and we had already arrived 15 mins early.

Absolutely the best way to get an overview of Victoria! So much fun to see everything from the horse and carriage-our driver/guide was so knowledgeable about the history of the city and told us so many fun and fascinating stories, we just had a great time! I would recommend to everyone visiting Victoria, especially for the first time!

Quaint way to see Victoria. This was our only tour for this port. Headed to the meeting location well before our designated start time so we would know where to go. At their suggestion, we took an earlier tour. Great way to see parts of local area that you may not necessarily see on your own. Tyler, our guide/driver was friendly and knowledgeable. King, our horse was kind and gentle. Enjoyed the relaxing ride before we headed to lunch at a place Tyler suggested and then some shopping before heading back to the ship.

Our carriage ride was fantastic!!! Red, our horse, was such a gentleman and took great care of us! Fran was an excellent guide. She had a lot of knowledge of the area and great, funny stories. She takes a lot of pride in her home town and we could see why! It was a very windy day, but it did not take away from the experience. Highly recommend!
