Today you will depart from Athens and head to Nemea is one of Greece’s most prestigious PDO (Protected Designation of Origin) wine regions. First stop will be the Canal of Corinth a narrow, man-made waterway that connects the Aegean Sea (Saronic Gulf) with the Ionian Sea (Gulf of Corinth), effectively separating the Peloponnese from mainland Greece. It remains a spectacular engineering feat and a popular photo stop for travellers passing by.
Nemea
We then reach Nemea, often referred to as the “Bordeaux of Greece” due to its world-class red wines. The star of the region is Agiorgitiko, a versatile grape that produces wines ranging from bright and fruity to deep, complex, and age-worthy. Beyond its rich wine heritage, Nemea is steeped in history, linked to the myth of Hercules and the Nemean Lion.
