Fenqihu Historical Street (奮起湖老街) is a charming, old-fashioned street located in the mountain village of Fenqihu in Taiwan. It is famous for its rich history, traditional food, and connection to the Alishan Forest Railway. The street retains its nostalgic vibe, with narrow lanes lined with wooden houses and old shops that date back to Taiwan's Japanese colonial era. One of the highlights of Fenqihu Historical Street is its traditional bento boxes, called Fenqihu Bento (奮起湖便當), which were originally created for passengers travelling on the Alishan train. These bentos often feature local specialities such as bamboo shoots, sausages, braised pork, and vegetables. Visitors can enjoy this local delicacy while exploring the street's many tea houses, souvenir shops, and old bakeries offering freshly made pastries.

The Alishan Small Train, also known as the Alishan Forest Railway (阿里山森林鐵路), is a historic narrow-gauge railway in Taiwan, renowned for its scenic mountain routes and cultural significance. Built during the Japanese colonial period in 1912, the railway was initially used for logging the region’s abundant cypress trees but has since become a major tourist attraction due to its breathtaking landscapes and unique engineering. The train operates on a steep, winding route, climbing from Chiayi City at an elevation of 30 metres to the Alishan National Scenic Area at over 2,200 metres above sea level. Along the way, passengers are treated to stunning views of forests, deep gorges, and mist-covered mountains. The journey takes travellers through various ecosystems, from subtropical lowlands to temperate highlands, providing a rare chance to experience diverse flora and fauna within a short trip.

The Alishan National Scenic Area (阿里山國家風景區) is one of Taiwan’s most famous and picturesque tourist destinations, located in the central mountains of Chiayi County. Known for its majestic landscapes, misty forests, and rich cultural heritage, Alishan offers visitors a blend of natural beauty and traditional Taiwanese experiences. One of the most iconic experiences in Alishan is watching the sunrise from Zhushan (祝山). The sunrise over the Alishan mountains, especially when combined with the famous “sea of clouds” (雲海), creates a breathtaking, almost ethereal view. Many tourists take the Alishan Small Train’s Zhushan Line early in the morning to catch this spectacular sight. Alishan is home to ancient cypress trees, some over 1,000 years old. The Sister Ponds (姊妹潭) are two small, picturesque ponds surrounded by lush forest, known for their peaceful atmosphere. They are said to represent two sisters who loved each other deeply and decided to stay by the ponds for eternity. Shouzhen Temple, located in the Alishan National Scenic Area, is the largest temple in the region and a significant Taoist spiritual site in Taiwan. Dedicated to Xuantian Shangdi, the temple showcases traditional Chinese architecture with ornate carvings and grand halls. Visitors come to pray for protection and blessings, especially during Taoist festivals, while enjoying the serene atmosphere surrounded by lush mountains. Shouzhen Temple also honours other deities, such as Guanyin and Mazu, making it an important cultural and religious destination in the Alishan area.
