Let's explore the Gion District geisha streets and take a deep dive into the “real Kyoto” in this magical, night walking tour. The expert guide will share with you all the hidden details of the closed world of geishas and mysterious Shinto shrines.

This is a walking tour going through several geisha districts, shrines, and beautifully preserved historic districts of Kyoto's Higashiyama area. The tour is about 3hr 30m.

The guide is an expert, speaking very clear & easy to understand, native English. The guide is extremely knowledgeable and will be able to answer all your questions in detail.

The guide will select a refreshing Kyoto snack during the break. (a small snack, not a full meal…will make every effort to cater to dietary restrictions such as vegetarian, vegan as well)

You will get deep insight into the Japanese way-of thinking, culture, and traditions that can't be experienced on other tours.

This Geisha district night tour was absolutely magical! Our guide's passion and extensive knowledge made this the best tour of my Kyoto trip. The included local snacks introduced us to a hidden gem restaurant I would've never found otherwise. Our guide showed us perfect photography spots and shared fascinating insights about Geisha culture, both historical and contemporary. Highly recommended for an authentic, unforgettable Kyoto experience that perfectly balances cultural education with beautiful sightseeing.

Kyoto at night is amazing. Amazing walking tour through the streets in the Geisha districts. If you're lucky like we were, you will see a Geisha walking to her reservation. If you want photos that will make your friends back home jealous, this is definitely the tour to take. Richard was a fantastic guide, incredibly knowledgable and informative. Don't miss this tour.

Our family is STILL talking about this tour. Richard is absolutely the best tour guide we had over our 7 day Japan adventure. His knowledge of Kyoto, the history of Geisha culture, and the passion in which he speaks is enticing. Richard just sucks you into the world of Geishas and makes a 3hr+ tour just fly by. The evening we attended was cold, with gusts of wind, but even our teenager daughter & 70yr old mother (who weren't dressed properly) refused to leave. If you go to Kyoto, this tour with Richard is an absolute must. He has flawless English, a perfect pace and keep you engaged even though he's teaching history. We visited temples, shrines, a local outdoor noodle shop, a park with the biggest cherry blossom tree and a fair with endless street food vendors. Wish all of our experiences in Japan were as good as this one. Well done Richard!!

This was an incredible tour. We learned so much and saw so many hidden gems that I am sure we’d have missed otherwise. Richard was so kind and patient and made the tour amazing. It was raining for a bit of our tour, and chilly, but we didn’t care at all- absolutely worth it. I cannot recommend it enough. This is a must do!

Traveling to Japan for the first time, we couldn’t have asked for a better guide than Richard! His passion for Japan and its culture was evident from the moment the tour began. Despite the cold and rainy evening, Richard’s energy, knowledge, and love for Kyoto truly made this experience unforgettable. He guided us through the Geisha districts and hidden streets of Kyoto with stories, history, and personal insights that brought the area to life in a way we could never have done on our own. The local snack he introduced us to was absolutely delicious — a special treat from a neighborhood vendor we never would have found without him. Richard’s enthusiasm, kindness, and deep respect for Japanese culture made this a highlight of our trip. Rain or shine, this tour is absolutely worth it — and Richard made it feel like an evening spent with a friend who just happens to know *everything* about Kyoto. Highly recommend!

Richard was AMAZING! He had sooo much knowledge! It upgraded our whole Japan trip as we where finally able to connect a lot of things we saw abs understand the background of it. His English was perfect abs his explanations where very detailed. Our 10 year old son was engaged for the whole walk! Would totally recommend this to any one that wants to understand the gaysha, temples, shrines, and life in Japan and Japanese and Kyoto culture!
