You'll be welcomed by Lea, a certified expert mosaicist, in an authentic mosaic workshop where you'll be assisted step by step in the creative process of crafting a mosaic according to the ancient original Byzantine technique. You will be able to create a small-scale reproduction of famous mosaic artworks which you can find in Ravenna's basilicas and monuments. You will use the finest material, the enamel produced in Venice specifically for mosaics, in its infinite range of brilliant colours. At the end of the class you will take home with you the mosaic you will have made as a souvenir! Before the class you will be guided in a visit of the store and Lea will briefly explain the history of mosaic and show you her original works. While parents make their own mosaic, children aged 5 to 12 will have a variety of proposals to make mosaic with the coloured glass paste tiles. They will be able to choose from a variety of designs: cartoons, fantasy animals, or even mosaics from the Roman or Byzantine tradition. -Mosaics are the hallmark of ravenna, they are deeply rooted in its history and tradition...so what better place than here to learn this ancient art?
